RS3 Mini vs RS3 Which DJI Gimbal will you buy?

  • New DJI Ronin Gimbals are out.
RavenEye does not work with RS3 Mini but it does with RS3.
MOST LIKELY if youre going to get one You'll be choosing between the RS3 Mini and the RS3. The main differences for my uses are that the RS3 Mini can not use the RavenEye transmitter and I love that thing. Also, if you have heavy lenses, the mini will work, but when you tilt really far, or if you try to extend the lens on the fly, you'll need to rebalance for it to be reliable.
Otherwise, and especially if you have a small camera, this Mini gimbal is SUPER good at stabilization. It's really light, it's really small, and it's perfect for traveling. You can easily shove it in a bag so if you do bring it somewhere like a theme park, you dont have to hold it out the whole time youre there.

For traveling, the RS3 Mini is perfect. Not just because of the weight and the size, but the smaller the gimbal, the less you stand out in areas with lots of people. It can be pretty annoying when everyone stares because you're carrying a giant gimbal. And as long as the thing can carry a 24-70, it's all good.

Other RUclipsr just simply sings the mini's praises. Yes I'd understand one can make the mini work, but none so far that demonstrate it's shortcoming. I bought my RS3 2 days before watching your video and I'm glad I did.
I made a mistake buying the Zhiyun Crane M3, and I couldn't use 60% of my lenses and try to rectify the situation. If I had bought the "mini", it would have some of the same problems as well. Albeit the "mini" seemed much stronger.

Not sure if I did get this right, the GM 24-70 seems pretty much limited? If you can’t face the camera downwards it’s quite tough from DJI so claim it’s compatible. It’s more like 60% compatible, isn’t it? Ideally you have one lens for traveling that fits all. This combo doesn’t seem to be the best then…

    • @NicholasJamesJohnson

You can’t face a 24-70 downward when you’ve balanced it at 24 and you zoom it out to 70. If you have it at 24mm you can use it as expected.

I unfortunately dont know.. I THINK SO, I cant imagine how it wouldnt work.. But youll need a very specific cable - the Raveneye module has a MINI-HDMI, and the ZVE10 has a MicroHDMI out, and I dont have a micro to mini HDMI cable to try this. The other thing I know about Sony Cameras other than A7siii and a7iv is that you need to hook the camera up to the gimble with the 'Sony Multi-Cable' which looks and is shaped like a microUSB but is different somehow. This cable comes with the raveneye and its labeled so youll just need to make sure youre using that one and not the microusb or USBC. But I THINK itll work..

I'm thinking of getting the RS3 Mini, but I'm not sure what the "Creator Combo" is all about (the extra thing they offer). It says it comes with two transmitters and one receiver (and a case)... so does that mean it comes with wireless mics? When I got the "Fly More" Combo with my drone, it was definitely worth it, so I'm just trying to figure out the same thing for the RS3 Mini. Is the "Creator Combo" that's offered with it worth it? Do you need it? P.S. I already have a Rode wireless microphone... so should I still get the Creator Combo, or not?

The RS3 Mini will stabilize any camera+lens combo less than 4 pounds. In fact, it would stabilize a phone, it would stabilize a potato if you made a mount! The Canon T8i DOES have a USB plug on it so you can probably even start and stop the camera with the gimbal button, although thats not necessary for it to work for stabilization, just handy.

@@erbartlett Thats what I meant.. So the active track is performed by your phone - so whatever improvements have been made to that, you'll still get with RSC2..
