Very similar to me! My level 16 group is a few sessions away from facing the Demogorgon. The campaign is focused around an ancient portal all the major demon lord's are competing for control of. Demogorgon came out on top but the group is about to awaken A solar who sealed the Portal the first time.
Same here I've got a campaign based around the idea that pale night made a demiplane tethered to the abyss that before it could be fully corrupted by the abyss was populated by The Lady of pain and wanderers from the infinite staircase. At this point there is one continent populated by humanoids and creatures like any other material relm if that's really what it was. Now pale night with aide from baphomet and zuggotmoy are attempting to rein this run away demiplane back under demonic controle while the gods, brought here by there followers try and wretch away one of the last remaining havens in a multiverse that's seen every other material relm swallowed by the abyss.
the reason is because dragons don't have "materials" whatever you harvest from a dragon is depending on your DM. DND isn't monster hunter after all and there isn't a selection of things you can get from every creature. especially since fighting a creature usually destroys those materials
@@joedatius As far as it goes with DnD, has a ton of variety of adventures and stories, like dungeon exploring, to participate in wars and sieges, even quest for relics and forgotten spells, there is no reason for monster hunting not be there, as there is a lot of monster you can fight in an adventure, even if they are dangerous
TSR was far more forthcoming on this. And dragons DO have materials. Their whole body. You can harvest every shred of their body that you didn't slash/pierce to infinity and back. In fact, I know older editions even specified exactly how much damage you could do with slash/pierce weapons before ruining the dragon's scales too badly to make armor from it etc., Anything that you didn't destroy in combat is there for the taking... it's a corpse not a mystery treasure chest.
It took a while, but we eventually got some stuff on them in both 3rd edition (in Fiendish Codex I: Hordes of the Abyss) and in 4th edition (in The Plane Below - Secrets of the Elemental Chaos), it wasn't much mind you, but that is what is required for the Obyriths to be believable ancient horrors that feel like they would be right at home in Lovecraft's Mythos. Of course, it helps that one of them is literally from the Mythos (that being Dagon). But what we got was quite enough for me to think that Pale Night was clearly the coolest of them. When you encounter her, she looks like a beautiful lady of indeterminable race, veiled only in semi-transparent cloth and mists. However, should you manage to catch a glimpse of her true form if the veils part, well, you'd better have a really good will save. If you succeed, you are rendered blind and your brain deletes what you saw from your memory. If you fail.... Well, time to roll up a new character, because your character is now incurably insane of the gibbering fool variety. And when I say incurable, I mean it. Not even godly intervention or the most powerful wish spell will restore the character, their mind is *gone*.
Loved the Berserk shoutout at 9:42. It fits perfectly, so much so that if I hadn't known Berserk first, I might have not recognized the art wasn't from D&D. Beautiful art, Miura. Rest in peace.
The Obyrith are clearly a Lovecraft influence of the Great Old Ones, especially Dagon which HPL used directly, and has mythos references to ancient Syria, and also in the bible. Same with Pazuzu, who has mythology roots from the Mesopotamian cultures. But of all the Obyrith , it's Pale Night that creeps me out the most, because of the threatening ambiguity. You just know that if you ever got a peek under that bedsheet she goes around in, that you'll be rendered a permanent asylum resident from the sight of her sheer horrifying beauty...assuming that you even survive it.
One of my friends asked me if I wanted to join a DnD session because I’ve never played and became hella confused how I know so much lore without having ever played. Thank you mister Rhexx
The abyss is likely the most written about outer plane. I chalk this up to human nature and scary things being like moths to a flame. There's even a tavern in sigil with many alu-fiend and cambion workers that specializes in selling abyssal "tours" where rich patrons can buy a taste (a very tiny sip) of the abyss. They leave with tales of the (manufactured) horror they saw. Occasionally one or two get dragged off but too many would be bad for business so most make it back relatively safely... all carrying a new seed of evil in their minds to where ever their home worlds are. There they produce things like squid games to try and recreate that abyssal feelings. Truly a beautiful and majestic plane 😍. If there's something in this universe that you wish would tear your head off, spit down your throat and use your corpse as an object... its there and your not thinking grand enough!
Saaaaame My BBEG is trapped in an unbreakable prison locked in time and space in the abyss. The spell casted however was imperfect and the first cracks start to show in the prison. It is a race against time before it escapes and wreaks havoc on the multiverse...
I want your book so bad but I'm poor. I'm. Playing a warforged who was made by an elf who fell in love with a dragon. But the dragon was killed and turned Into a monsterous draco lich, under the control of a powerful necromancer. Now Im on a quest to avenge my father and free mother's soul.
I have been waiting for this planar series to return. I am SO ready to delve into the outer planes... and not just because I'm attempting to reimagine a Planescape adventure into 5th edition, but also because MrRhexx, Greater God of Lore, Passion, and Secrets, has decided to gather all this information into convenient and amazingly made videos. Love your work man. I really do. The Planes of D&D have always drawn my imagination, and to have you doing a video series on them is amazing! keep it up!
Yes. I love the planer series as well. I'm in kind of a planeswalker type of campaign atm and it's great. These planar vids are Very good for that campaign.
As someone running a campaign centred around Abyss lore, these videos are so useful! Even if I don't use them exactly, I almost always use them as a jumping off point.
I've been a DM for 10 years now, just wanted you to know you and AJ Pickett are my bread and butter to steer me through the ever changing tide of lore Wizards of the Coast release. Your videos have kept me sane in trying times and taught me whole new techniques for immersing my players in a truly open, free-flowing world that my players can explore and impact with other characters inhabiting the same world bearing witness to those who came before both good and evil.
Well, it is now my head canon that every time someone gets isekaied to fend off a demon lord and spends 2 seasons *not fighting the demon lord,* that their world gets overrun by the overid and joins the abyss.
I actually had a vague idea for an isekai where something like that actually happens. Well, maybe not full 'lose entire world to demonic invasion', but still where putting off the main story too long while sidequesting has consequences.
You realize that would probably be about as foolish as playing BotW and attempting to fight Ganon with just a Stick and a Wooden Shield. I mean sure you COULD do it, but you're gonna need more heros than just the one....
@@chillyavian7718 fan service gonna fan service. Ain't an excuse for it, but it sells unfortunately. And I generally don't take issue with it as long as it's relevant to the plot in some regard, but that's very rarely the case now isnt it? Unless it's a Hentai of course. In which case its ALWAYS relevant to the plot.
It's actually true. It is said in Mordekainen's Tome of Foes that abyssal influence corrupts material plane. If a portal to Abyss is open too long, territory around it will change to a landscape closer to abyssal, and more tears in reality will spawn until the whole world become a new layer of the Abyss.
This is perfect for the story arc of one of my players, and I'm glad one of my aesthetic choices for the plane of Androlynne (a black hole instead of a sun) actually has some lore significance now
Picked up the PDF, and there's so much fun stuff in it. The Great Wyrm patron is extremely overpowered though, and a fair few things could probably stand some playtesting and revision.
I would love to see a series on the Feywild, as it and it's denizens seem pretty small and weak in the cosmological order, it's always perplexed me how they were never destroyed or taken over.
I think that just has to do with cosmic placement. Both the Feywild and Shadowfell are inner planes, and thus don't have a strong/lasting connection to the Outer Planes. I could be wrong but that's my thoughts on it.
I started DMing a campaign for some newer players. One of them picked a warlock, and randomly picked the Pale Night off a list of demons to be his patron. I couldn't be happier to delve into all the lore and figure out something fun to work with him on throughout the campaign.
You are amazing at turning all this lore into a story that grips the mind and makes me want to give my players the rod of law or an amulet of the planes
Great video man, I love the Abyss so much. Pretty much all my characters know SOMETHING about demons. Literally the most interesting lore in my opinion. You rock Mr. Rhexx. A group of my friends wanted more lore for the Abyss, so I now have more to show them.
The Abyss has always been the most intriguing of all the lower planes to me. I love the lore surrounding the shard of evil and how the abyss never ends.
I love the concept of the Abyss. All my characters in d&d worship a primordial "god" that to me strongly ties with chaos. One of it's avatars is off the coast of Waterdeep. Even though it is not called an avatar in the cannon source material it still feels like one so I treat it as one. I even have a list of Deities that are effectively just different names for this being. I mention this only because while you where talking about the shard it reminded me of the deep crimson shard born of this being and used to wake the avatar from it's slumber.
The Pale Night is really interesting. I've always wondered how much influence she's had over the creation of the Abyss and how it's developed over time since she could potentially be older than most entities in D&D.
bought the book before even getting you introduction of it, i just trust you a lot when it comes to my favorite legendary beast thta i dont need info on a book based on them, just finished ready before coming back to the vid, its great thanks a lot
Everything about this lore dump was so well put together - this is absolutely up in my top favourites of all your videos! I've loved watching this channel grow
Thank you for some good Dragon stuff in the book! I’ve always wanted good info for dragon harvesting and using a slain dragon. Fighting and killing it is one thing. Figuring out what to DO with it after is better.
Dragon hoards is literally the most perfect thing you could've made (at least for me) I'm running hoard of the dragon queen and this is gonna spice up the dragons and the lore!
Immediately got the PDF! It's awesome! I am really loving the rules for dragon parts as one of my campaigns heavily features dragons. And in any campaign I play or run if the players down a dragon the first thing they want to do is turn it into weapons and armor.
I bought the book and I L-O-V-E it, the golems Staff is just great, The way that you can reduce the cost if you have certain things, really make you think how to create it in a cool and descriptive way as a DM. So thanks a lot!
I know that this is one year video, but thanks to the information that you bring me here, I was inspired to make a D&D campaign based on the Abyss in my own Homebrew setting, taking topics like the Dawn War, or even Tharizdun himself, and the villain of the plot that I choose is the most amazing thing, I just know that my players will love it, thank you Mister Rex, for all your efforts
Really spectacular storytelling, there. Fun fact about 16:05 - there was actually one single Demon Lord among the Obyrith who did not swear fealty to the Queen of Chaos and chose to ignore her call to war, and even she didn't choose to attempt to force him. Dagon, Prince of the Depths is actually venerated as a god among the Kraken, the hags, and kuo-toa and water naga. Not sure if you were familiar with that little tidbit.
Just wanted to say thank you specifically for this video, as it inspired the dying creative spark in my mind, and I have begun working on a new campaign. Hoping I can use the knowledge you've given to it's fullest potential.
I wonder what "civilized" life is like down there. How do towns work? What are common pastimes? How do they feel about each other? What are some dishes they serve?
I've been playing around with creating a race native to the Shadowfell the Scath. While creating them I decided that I need to create an origin story for them. So I used an idea I had for an entity that feeds on dead gods. I haven't settled on a name yet, thinking maybe Scathach or Ungoliant or something similar. But the idea behind her is that she is a combination with a Obyrith and a Nightshade on steroids. She's basically a living black hole just sucking energy out of everything and leaving it dark and lifeless. In my head canon she's actually the one who created the Plain of Shadows before it became the Shadowfell. Her back story is that she was created accidentally by Obox-ob and is one of the reasons why their world was falling apart. Wen the Obyriths came to the world she followed them. Though none of them realized that she had done so. All except Obox-ob, who found out after he was defeated and is happily keeping this information to himself. Personality wise she isn't evil she's chaotic neutral. Her primary goal is to finish what she she started by consuming the Obyriths. She also wants to drag the entirety of Abyss into the Negative Material Plain and reshape it into a realm for her children. For the most part she lives in the Negative Material Plain to mitigate her affect on the Prime Material Plain only poking small pieces of herself into various places that she wants to interact with and to feed. She appears as a woman made of Shadows with 4 large arms with long claws on her hands 3 fingers and 2 thumbs. She has a crazy mane of hair with 2 small horns on her forehead. She has 2 massive antlers just above her long pointed fury ears and she has 3 eyes. Her lower body is a massive tail that stretches out to nearly an infant length and has long finger like legs tipped with claws running along it. The back side of the tail is covered with fur and eyes can open on any part of it.
Been waiting for a while for this video on the abyss and i love it since the abyss and the obyriths are like my favorite part of dnd lore. However, i believe you missed a few very interesting and wild things about the obyriths and some of their characters that couldve been mentioned (not all but some of these). Pazuzu (my favorite character in dnd); -real name known only by Lamashtu, demon lord of monstrous births. not even other obyriths know. -was the one who made the shard of evil or in other lore headed the creation of it. Either way the Shard of pure evil is his doing. -Pazunia can lead to literally anywhere on the abyss and he is the only one who can navigate it perfectly -Actually physically changed his form into something beautiful and has the Awe effect-on evil flying creatures-which is absolutely wild when you consider the fact that an obyrith's appearance has power in itself thats greater than even a tanarii like demo. -was the one who incited the dawn war (probably in order to weaken Tharuzdin, but lore doesnt say why) -was the one who made Asmo's ruby rod and help his rise (probably to save his fellow Oby's from Tanarii) and Pazuzu has a favor to call in from asmo when needed. Making Pazuzu an ally of Asmo and the two actually work together to influence the blood war to their needs. -The most ancient demon lords, including demo, know he's an Oby and yet they dont mess with him, in fact, Pazuzu is on good terms with literally every type of fiend (including the Dukes of hell and the yugos) and only has 2 enemies being Lamashtu (cause he messed her up after she betrayed him) and Gratzz which is only because of Pazuzus princely claim of the abyssal skies (even then Gratzz isnt like a nemesis more like a guy who just doesnt really like him). -Pazuzu didnt submit to the Queen of Chaos like the others but lore doesnt say why, but Pazuzu aint no punk. -Pazuzu is the most demon, devil yugo angelic demon character since alot of his actions are not always chaotic in nature. a sort method to madness to of vibe, really cool. Dagon -Like Pazuzu, Dagon remained out of the QoC's shenanigans and this time the lore says why. Cause even with her armies and Miska she still feared Dagon...which is wild. -Dagon makes no effort to hide his Obyrith identity and in fact loudly proclaims it. -Demo came to Dagon not the other way around. Dagon is seen by Demo (who lives directly above Dagon's lair, 89th layer the Shadow Sea) as a mentor. Dagon doesn't seek protection -Detailed in the Demonomicon, Dagon knows everything about the Abyss (even if you make homebrew lore he still knows). -Dagon doesn't actually care about the grand scheme of everything thats going on and he more less just vibes in the 89th -The denizens of the Abyss actually have a tradition of pilgrimage to Dagon's layer to meet with him. super interesting bit of lore. Pale Night -The consort can be inferred but i dont believe anything is stated out right. -She captured an entire generation of Eladrin on her layer for the bs the eladrin pulled after the war of L v C. -She vibes on Bapho's layer and the two agree to a defensive pact for convenience rather than being on any friendly terms -She is the ugliest thing the multiverse has ever known cause reality ITSELF cant comprehend her form so it just throws a sheet over her and if she ever removed it and a being gazed upon her they die instantly. The original world -There's a ziggurat (cant remember the name super complex) where the Obyriths meet every thousand years to discuss things. -There are 13 lords left (all named but not all detailed as far as im aware) and they form the Queen's Concordat (the name of the alliance) -This Ziggurat is consider haunted even by other demons and they stay away from it. The Ziggurat is also said to house the only portal in the multiverse that is still linked back to their original home. Ya just some tidbits on some-i guess 3-of the obyriths that i believe were missed opportunities to mention. Still loved the video and if any of the tidbits i mentioned are wrong i would love to know and where to find the info cause its so hard to find their lore or even visuals (which im trying to make more modern art for them-especially Pazuzu.)
Wow talk about fortunate, my party JUST killed an adult ice dragon and ended the session talking about wanting to harvest from it! Your guide was definitely worth the purchase! :D
Great video. You really tied all these disparate elements together into a single cohesive timeline. That's a huge project and I'm so impressed. I'm still confused by one thing though: How can there be infinite demons if they come from humanoid souls which are not an infinite source? I was under the impression that Demons were spawned from the Abyss itself.
Technically there are demons that are not Tana'ri yeah, though d&d doesn't really delve too deep into them. The word infinite is also probably a bit deceiving. A billion demons would look like an infinite number of demons to anyone, and then there's also the fact that the abyss might get new souls faster than it takes for ppl to kill the demons; i guess you could also technically call that infinite.
I'm pretty sure it's not actually infinite but more effectively so. There's no way to count them all since the layers are so factitious that they can absorb each other and end up splitting apart, and new ones can show up, so the number is always in flux. Also only some demons come from humanoid souls.
@@elegantoddity8609 Yes but Tanari are the majority of demons and it's literally only Chaotic Evil souls that fail to go to the realm of their chosen Deity for whatever reason.... That's going to be hardly any. Maybe the Shard of Pure Evil is stealing souls from countless other planes? Because otherwise I can't see why there would be any more Demons than Angels or Devils.
@@MrRhexx That's something I never really understood clearly, either. When a humanoid dies, doesn't their soul go to their chosen Deity? Devils get souls via contracts and corruption, but how do Demons get them?
@@TheHighestNoon Well not everyone in the dnd multiverse goes to a deity. Forgotten Realms setting has that stupid Wall of the Faithless for non believers but that doesn't apply to every world. In others you die and you go to the plane of most like alignment. I think the tanar'ri are most numerous because souls are much more "fertile" than a plane of pure entropy. It has something to work with and there's a whole universe of them to work with. The obyriths also suffered from bad life choices which drastically reduced their numbers before they got genocides several times. As for why demons outnumber everyone else, it's partially because they don't play by any rules. They don't bargain for souls, they straight up take them, dragging them off to the Abyss. Devils invade, demons infect. And good beings have a concern for free will that fiends don't share.
Instantly bought the digital content, it not only completly fits my D&D Campaign but it is also made by my favourite D&D youtuber. Thanks for all the content!
Thank you so much for the dragon harvesting book. My party is diving into Rise of Tiamat and they will definitely be trying to snag trophies and valuables off these terrors of the skies! Love your work and wish you the best!
A brief thing I should mention Mrrhexx since I noticed it in your pdf shown in the video. You Irondrake Golem (which I love the idea of by the way) has both resistance and immunity to bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing damage from non-magical weapons that aren't Adamantine, and was wondering if that was a mistake or not, as I don't think something can have both an immunity and resistance, as immunity means it wouldn't take any damage while resistance means it takes half. Other than that, I always enjoy your series and love learning more about dnd lore, so thanks for another fun video😊
Oh no. That is very upsetting to me. The editor must have not fixed that. All of them should have resistances and immunities that look like the Bone dragon. Immunity to magical weapons, and resistance to mundane weapons. Adamantine goes through all of it.
@@who_is_the_doc when you click the link, it sends you to a community tab on the channel and shows you the link. The link to that community tab is in the description. You could also find the link if you go to his Twitter
I absolutely love the abyss and it's demons because of its infinite potential. Every demon, even the lowliest manes can one day become a demon prince and since there are infinite layers, there are infinite demons and infinte demon princes
There is just so many interesting facts and lore behind every facet of dungeons and dragons, it never gets boring, and there's always something new to discover. Now there's just one question remaining...Bahamut vid when? You gave Tiamet love, where's the vid on her polar opposite? Huh?
Love your book and ideas, irs funny the difference and dm style and thought process your dragon warlock turns into a half dragon while thought was to turn em into a powerful kobold
My guy. Running two campaigns. First, demon lords trying to escape into Los Angeles. The second, dragon hunting. I could not have asked for anything more from you. You are my hero.
7:56 actually according to some lore books, Tharizdun knew this was a trap set by the Oberyths and in order to test them as well as see the true power of the shard planted it in the elemental chaos instead
0:10 I was under the impression that that was the Elemental Plane of Fire? A place which instantly obliterates anything without fire immunity - including every magic item less than an artifact. In fact, if you have fire immunity, you will still be incinerated - the immunity must be magical. It's the cosmic source of energy for the inner planes, and all matter therein. That's something I learnt on this channel
Great video! Found lots of information about the Abyss in it. The only complaint I have is the lack of any information of the Loumara, I’ve barely heard them mentioned on RUclips at all but they seem incredibly interesting.
dragons hoard magic items due to their inherent value, dragons by all means are prideful and the idea of them using magic items that they haven't made since they're you know... dragons. makes perfect sense. a dragon can cast powerful spells naturally so why use a staff or wand, a dragons claws can rip through armor with ease so they don't need weapons, a dragon is one of the fastest flyers in the realms so it doesn't need boots of flying. a dragon magical by nature and powerful by birth. i feel when you try to add random items and such it takes away from what dragons are, and thats their existence being purely powerful just on their own.
That was awesome! And I'll definitely buy a copy of your Dragon Hoard off, in the coming days! I don't play D&D so much, these days, as I create Villian/Ally/Patron concepts, for some friends and aquatintances that do! My favorite beasties being Dragons, Demons, Devil's and Fae! Your videos, along with AJ's, have been a huge help! And are very enjoyable! I always look forward to them! And I hope that you enjoyed your week off, with a visit from family, if I recollect right? 😁
New campaign setting idea!: The infinityth layer of the Abyss is actually your original Prime Material Plane. It is absolute chaos all the way down...and the most chaotic evil, mortals.
Another video. A blessing from The Lord! Another batch of info that I may but probably won't in tn the near future use in my campaign, but obtaining it will bring me great pleasure nontheless
I had to come back to this video to comment how amazing I thought you did on this video. Thank you for making it so bomb. Lots of inspiration to draw from here. P.S. I'd be SO DOWN if you dedicated a video to Tharizdun after this.
MrRhexx Please make a video about Graz'zt, I relly think he is in the middle of it all and would make a really good follow up for this video where he is placede in all of this Chaos. I would love to see your take on this and as always love your work.
Nice piece of lore! It makes sense... there is no such thing as a war of Law vs Chaos, it's just an infinite tavern brawl of chaos vs law, chaos vs good, chaos vs evil, chaos vs neutral & chaos vs chaos. And BEWARE of Chaos in this mess, cause it bites!
The closest ruling I liked by a DM was that a dragon we had killed could only provide enough scales for one medium creature's armor. The explanation was that due to the sheer amount of damage done, and our combined lack of knowledge about descaling a dragon, we ruined a *lot* of the materials.
Immediately bought ny copy of this book. We can always count on you to give us stuff that DND wont. You should make this a series of books for yourself dude, Id definitely buy them. It coupd get risky with licensing and profiting but maybe you could figure something out? You deserve it for all your hard work. I miss The Dragon Fire Adept from 3rd Edition. Sigh. Easily my favorite class.
yeah its very nice that the game has alot of attention to detail of the over all lore of the world. its one of the few DND games that lets you learn about lore that still exists
Welp, now i need your book. I been running a dragon hunting groups this will help with my stuff. Thank you so much. Also been a follower for along time and love the channels. Thank you for all the lore and other items that will help me build my games better :D
This series about Demons is so perfect for me. I'm running a campaign centered around Demogorgon and these videos have helped immensely.
Same here! 5e savage tide
Very similar to me! My level 16 group is a few sessions away from facing the Demogorgon. The campaign is focused around an ancient portal all the major demon lord's are competing for control of. Wizards: *refuses to release stats on dragon materials*
MrRhexx: "Fine, i'll do it myself!"
Might be in Fizban's though, but yeah, this is amazing still :D
the reason is because dragons don't have "materials" whatever you harvest from a dragon is depending on your DM.
Let's be real. MrHexx is the real lore master

And dragons DO have materials. Their whole body. You can harvest every shred of their body that you didn't slash/pierce to infinity and back. Obyriths are the most interesting thing about the Abyss, a pity they are buried behind all other lore in hell and more common and newer demons.
Whenever I'm feeling uninspired about the games I'm running your vids always get me hyped again.
Impeccable timing, perfect for the abyss themed campaign I’m running 👌
Im gonna send it to my dm is gonna go crazy
He always makes a video on whatever I'm planning do to for my campaign.
Saaaaame
My BBEG is trapped in an unbreakable prison locked in time and space in the abyss. The spell casted however was imperfect and the first cracks start to show in the prison. It is a race against time before it escapes and wreaks havoc on the multiverse...
Sweet, another video from this glorious channel.
As a DM your deep dives have been invaluable 👍
Many thanks.

Just so your head Canon is top quality: Obyrith not overid
This is perfect for the story arc of one of my players, and I'm glad one of my aesthetic choices for the plane of Androlynne (a black hole instead of a sun) actually has some lore significance now
Perfect for my friend that is starting her DMing debut next week and will have a small adventure in the Abyss.
"The most inhospitable place in the entirety of the multiverse."
Limbo: I see how it is... -3-
Negative Energy plane:Hey! Get in line!
Far Realm:
Love that Draconic Warlock patron! Definitely gonna pick up that pdf.
I swear I'd love to be able to campaign around Pale Night. There's just so much there to work with.
I started DMing a campaign for some newer players. One of them picked a warlock, and randomly picked the Pale Night off a list of demons to be his patron.
I couldn't be happier to delve into all the lore and figure out something fun to work with him on throughout the campaign.
I love these videos on eldritch horrors. I think I fell in love with Aboleths when I did my video on them haha
I love Tharizdun lore and i love that u touch that aspecto of lore of him. Thank u dude!!! ❤️
I liked the Berserk manga panel you put in there.
The Pale Night is really interesting. I've always wondered how much influence she's had over the creation of the Abyss and how it's developed over time since she could potentially be older than most entities in D&D.
I think
She supposed to be Lilith
bought the book before even getting you introduction of it, i just trust you a lot when it comes to my favorite legendary beast thta i dont need info on a book based on them, just finished ready before coming back to the vid, its great thanks a lot
Omg, that PDF looks incredible. Deeeefinitely picking one up.
15:46 I almost laughed my inside out when I misheard it as "When you're not with her, you're a gangster"😂🤣
I heard that too! 😂
I tend to always listen to these while in bed, suffice to say they tend to keep me up because they’re just so interesting :p
Just wanted to say thank you specifically for this video, as it inspired the dying creative spark in my mind, and I have begun working on a new campaign. Hoping I can use the knowledge you've given to it's fullest potential.
Tharizdune on the thumbnail oh yea God of madness
Did he corrupt loth
is he the reason asmodious fell
And he made the abyss
Most underrated god
I love your lore videos so much.
DnD is my favorite fantasy world.
Dragon Hoards looks AMAZING. I would love if you did this same thing with other themes such as the Abyss or maybe about Deities
dude your dragon hoard book is on my list of 3rd party supplements. Love your work I appreciate all the time and work you put into this stuff!
Been waiting for a while for this video on the abyss and i love it since the abyss and the obyriths are like my favorite part of dnd lore. However, i believe you missed a few very interesting and wild things about the obyriths and some of their characters that couldve been mentioned (not all but some of these).
Pazuzu (my favorite character in dnd);
-real name known only by Lamashtu, demon lord of monstrous births. not even other obyriths know.
-was the one who made the shard of evil or in other lore headed the creation of it. Either way the Shard of pure evil is his doing.
-Pazunia can lead to literally anywhere on the abyss and he is the only one who can navigate it perfectly
-Actually physically changed his form into something beautiful and has the Awe effect-on evil flying creatures-which is absolutely wild when you consider the fact that an obyrith's appearance has power in itself thats greater than even a tanarii like demo.
-was the one who incited the dawn war (probably in order to weaken Tharuzdin, but lore doesnt say why)
-was the one who made Asmo's ruby rod and help his rise (probably to save his fellow Oby's from Tanarii) and Pazuzu has a favor to call in from asmo when needed.
Dagon
-Like Pazuzu, Dagon remained out of the QoC's shenanigans and this time the lore says why.
Dagon doesn't seek protection
-Detailed in the Demonomicon, Dagon knows everything about the Abyss (even if you make homebrew lore he still knows).
-Dagon doesn't actually care about the grand scheme of everything thats going on and he more less just vibes in the 89th
-The denizens of the Abyss actually have a tradition of pilgrimage to Dagon's layer to meet with him. super interesting bit of lore.
Pale Night
-The consort can be inferred but i dont believe anything is stated out right.
-She captured an entire generation of Eladrin on her layer for the bs the eladrin pulled after the war of L v C.
-She vibes on Bapho's layer and the two agree to a defensive pact for convenience rather than being on any friendly terms
-She is the ugliest thing the multiverse has ever known cause reality ITSELF cant comprehend her form so it just throws a sheet over her and if she ever removed it and a being gazed upon her they die instantly.
The original world
-There's a ziggurat (cant remember the name super complex) where the Obyriths meet every thousand years to discuss things.
-There are 13 lords left (all named but not all detailed as far as im aware) and they form the Queen's Concordat (the name of the alliance)
-This Ziggurat is consider haunted even by other demons and they stay away from it.
So this video has to be the best explanatory video about the Abyss on the web. The explanation of the Shard of Evil is entirely on point. Well done
@@MrRhexx I do not see the link to your PDF at all. could you please give me a link to the pdf?

I've bought his Dragon book, it is quite cool. Lots of really neat stuff.
11:30 SO THAT'S what happened to the one true Devil whose name is Lucifer, The Angel of Betrayal.
I'm still waiting for Tharizdun to break free and show all of creation why he is the most dangerous being in existence.
I absolutely love the abyss and it's demons because of its infinite potential. Every demon, even the lowliest manes can one day become a demon prince and since there are infinite layers, there are infinite demons and infinte demon princes
I am homebrewer through and through, but your videos about deeper lore of DnD are so inspiring!
Mr. Rhexx I'm buying that book as soon as I get off work! That subclass will fit in so well with how dragons came to be in my world!
What a start to the outer planes. Looking forward to the next one, although I doubt any of the rest have such an interesting story behind them.
My guy. Running two campaigns. First, demon lords trying to escape into Los Angeles. The second, dragon hunting. I could not have asked for anything more from you. You are my hero.
I like the idea of an infinite below and above. As you make it to each layer, there is simply another more further from whence you came
The glorious return of the realms series!
Absolute best channel to get D&D lore. You make every word sound extremely exciting.
This was a really good one thank you! I feel like I also have a deeper understanding as to the nature of Lolth and Tiamat as demons.
7:56 actually according to some lore books, Tharizdun knew this was a trap set by the Oberyths and in order to test them as well as see the true power of the shard planted it in the elemental chaos instead
All of these demon videos are amazing, I'm running a modified OotA and this is great for fleshing it out.
That God Hand panel merged perfectly with the video!
A most gripping tale!
EXCELLENT Work Mr
Rex Sir! 👏👏👏👏👏
I'm definitely getting that PDF immediately
Maybe 1 video about the river stix would be interesting
"...and this time they (the remaining Obyrith) would work together."
Suuuuure
That was awesome! And I'll definitely buy a copy of your Dragon Hoard off, in the coming days! I don't play D&D so much, these days, as I create Villian/Ally/Patron concepts, for some friends and aquatintances that do! My favorite beasties being Dragons, Demons, Devil's and Fae! Your videos, along with AJ's, have been a huge help! And are very enjoyable! I always look forward to them! And I hope that you enjoyed your week off, with a visit from family, if I recollect right? 😁
New campaign setting idea!:
The infinityth layer of the Abyss is actually your original Prime Material Plane.
Video about the Abyss starts at 3:36
Closed captions turn this into a tale about interdimensional ovaries of pure evil.
MrRhexx Please make a video about Graz'zt, I relly think he is in the middle of it all and would make a really good follow up for this video where he is placede in all of this Chaos.
I would love to see your take on this and as always love your work.
Yo I'm on it rhexx. I've been watching you for a long while ever since you where doing Skyrim stuff. Can't wait to read all the things in this.
The explanation was that due to the sheer amount of damage done, and our combined lack of knowledge about descaling a dragon, we ruined a *lot* of the materials.
yeah its why harvesting isn't really a huge mechanics in DND. there's a big difference between hunting something and fighting something.
YESS! New MrRhexx!
Long-time fan, man.
DONE! Thank you MrRhexx I just bought myself a copy of the book. Thank you, and also another great video thank you.
Awesome! I simple thumbs up doesn't convey how awesome this video is and how much I enjoyed it. Thank you!
this video was enough to inspire a campaign in my mind
hope for another videos about the abyss
Been following your research for years. Cool to see you putting your knowledge in books.
Digging these lore vids, I'll be running a 3.5e campaign for my group soon, so I am binging d&d lore for inspiration
Awesome! This is the video I've been waiting for.
I think Abyss is one of the most intriguing of the planes as they are
So I started playing the alpha from baldurs gate again and I was so pumped when I understood so much about the lore! Your vids are really awesome!
yeah its very nice that the game has alot of attention to detail of the over all lore of the world. its one of the few DND games that lets you learn about lore that still exists
MrRhexx: Yo dawg I heard you like Dragons so I put more Dragons in your D&D so you can Dragon while you Dungeon
Welp, now i need your book. I been running a dragon hunting groups this will help with my stuff. Thank you so much.
