Certainly learnt a lot, and I’m very looking forward to Demogorgan babies - The outer planes and their Dennisons are always such a fascinating topics because they are so rarely seen in game
Imagine your an ordinary villager that lives near the ocean, everything is relatively calm and peaceful until one day a huge two headed demon emerges from the ocean and starts destroying everything around you and fusing the animals together creating chimera-like monsters in it's wake, and that's just one of many things that can happen to a poor unsuspecting village in D&D.
From deep in the depths of your mind, comes the sound of several raspy voices speaking as one: "Fear not mortal, soon you will be one with us...do not run, for you will only die tired..." as the voice fades out of your thoughts you feel the ground beneath your rumble violently as the massive creature moves from the shore to the center of you hamlet. The monster moved in such a terrifyingly fast manner that his limbs seemed to simply blend in and out of reality. In a heartbeat the gigantic beast stands above you. Its massive, terrible eyes stare down at you, and your body grows weak. You cannot stop yourself from falling to the ground. Your hand goes to your chest and that is when you glance at your own flesh...it has begun to blister and boil away, with tiny specs and pieces floating up toward the hideous creatures maw. The beast simply stares at you, its mouth slightly agape, but not moving. Suddenly your mind is shattered by a hellish shriek and the beast demands: "Bow to me, or be one with me...."
Absolutely love this! I currently have a player at my table who's character is a homebrewed race that is a descendant of Demogorgon! This video gave me a LOT of information that I can use to make the campaign much more enjoyable for him, and hopefully the others at the table as well! These videos have been amazing and very well done! Keep it up UwU
I'm surprised Demogorgon's soul-stealing shenanigans haven't incurred the wrath of the gods whose souls should be rightfully theirs, or _especially_ the wrath of Kelemvor. I figured the Judge of the Damned would not take too kindly to diverting souls around the Fugue Plane. As a god, couldn't Kelemvor just walk into the Abyss and kill Demogorgon?
Yeah... You don't simply walk into the abyss, first of all, some demon lords can fight gods, like Orkus who killed Primus one time, the other, the power of a god could be reduced if he is not in his plane while demon lords and demogorgon are in their prime while they are in the abyss
I'd say Kelemvor would beat Demogorgon in a 1v1 fight, even if it took place in the Abyss..but he'd have to fight through around 2 million lesser demons, and several demon lords almost as strong as Demogorgon to reach him. An avatar probably couldn't even make it through the whole Gauntlet to reach the Prince, meaning he'd need to use his true, Godly form to push through the army, which..even if you use the rule that only an equal or higher ranked God can kill another God, getting their real, true body destroyed is significantly more inconvenient then an avatar. If nothing else it would probably render them vulnerable to Imprisonment & Demogorgon might even be in a position to steal their divine power, if a deity was defeated,& reduced to 0 hit points in his realm.
Start with reports of people disappearing, and monsters appearing near a small Town. The characters head there, and have fun fighting the various monsters. The monsters are often basic chimeras, or weird mixtures of horse and rider (not just centaurs). Have the town mayor let the PCs use a room at his house for them to rest/recuperate between monster killing, and at the same time the PCs get to meet the mayor's family. While in town slowly ramp up the monster production so it turns from an investigation into a fight (i.e. 1 monster every couple weeks, then a week and a half, then a week, then every 5 days, aso). Give the impression that the situation is getting worse, and if the monsters are not dealt with that the town will starve because nobody is safe enough to go outside and harvest food. Have a weak goblin tribe show up and steal apples from the orchard to help illustrate the problem. One of the mayor's family members is a 5-year old girl who wants to help others, but is sometimes found near the locations where monsters show up. As a result, the townspeople are saying that she is cursed and needs to be put to death. Cue the torch & pitchfork mob, which the players should try to talk down. Scans of her reveal that she is Good, and talking to her reveals that she is compassionate (good family raised her nicely) The catch: she is actually responsible, she was supposed to be twins to lead a Demogorgon cult, but fetus-in-fetu occurred and she absorbed her twin, also absorbing and combining the power. So she has powers to merge 2+ creatures into a single critter, but then she is scared of the result and runs away. The monster has gone insane from the (very painful) process, and lashes out in anger. Her actions to merge people would be described as her seeing that a farmer was angry at his horse, remembering that the PC on his horse got along nicely, so merged the farmer and his horse so they would get along. So the monsters are merely the symptom, the kind and innocent 5-year old kid is the real villain, but she is doing it out of (misguided) compassion. Give the players an idea that just a fragment of Demogorgon's power in this little girl was enough to cause the massive monster problem.
I’m planning to run an out of the abyss campaign, so this is a godsend! Please, I would LOVE to here any and everything about the abyss and demon lords and their habits and personality. This was AMAZING THANK YOU ✨
you know hearing about how the demogorgon hates their other half and thinks that if they were separated for each other they'd be better off suddenly makes me think of the song "Quest for Camelot - If I Didn't Have You"
I did really enjoy this video. Going in-depth about everything you talk about in all your videos has inspired me role-play a lot of monsters truer to their nature.
Demogorgon is by far my favorite demon lord, and the BBEG of my first campaign! It was a nice surprise to see this video! I wasn't aware of him having any... offspring, so I'm curious to hear about them.
Now I'm really curious about a Graz'zt spotlight video. He's literally my favorite creature in all of D&D thanks to his backstory as a devil and to his cunning which makes the Dark Prince the only demon lord who can claim lordship on three Abyssal Layers. Also Zelatar is such a fun planar city to play in.
I tend to DM worlds where magic is either so common that it feels strange, or so mundane, that magic feels like a sin. Never dragging religion or the like in my worlds, players often like the amount of lore i can bring to them, specially when madness goes rampant in the world, almost as if it was a Lovecraftian setting. Pretty Darkest Dungeon-esque. And i got a lot to thank to You, MrRhexx; for all these videos which have helped me set the scene in a fully fleshed way. Able to keep that special consistency, so whoever is in the table, can expect certain things. You do a great job.
This really took me back to my first long-term character, one in a 2nd edition planescape game where I ended up a proxy to demogorgon. I had no idea about most of this lore. Amazing stuff. Thanks for enriching an old memory.
I absolutely love these longer videos, especially for when I am on the road for long-distance drives. Allows me to world-build on the fly with all the extra knowledge, so thank you!
Looking forward to the others ones. As a 5e only player and started at low level 3.5. Never realized how nerfed these demon lords are in terms of abilities. Hope you do baphomet next(just because my player is a secret follower of him in a cult lol)
This was so well timed; I’m literally running Out of the Abyss in 2 weeks. Now I can have Demogorgon’s heads arguing with each other in abyssal. I also might give him a pirate hat. But in all seriousness, I really appreciate the effort you put into researching these videos. I remember looking up those unpronounceable manta rays on the wiki because they seemed out of place, and getting basically no information. Thanks for doing the work for us!
Nice, I'm currently running (a heavily homebrewed version of) Out of the Abyss, so all the knowledge about Demogorgon (and maybe also Graz'zt and the other demon lords) is heavily appreciated
I don’t think I can express enough how much this channel has helped me with my campaign. I’ve been planning a massive scale campaign about the return of Cronus and the videos on the planes have been massively helpful in my planning. Thank you!
PLEASE do more Abyss stuff, it's so underrepresented. There seems to be almost no findable information whatsoever about the abyss; about it's geography, topology, flora and fauna, its denizens, other demon lords, etc
Well it's infinite, so you can have any number of different topographies and climates and denizens. But I suppose you mean information on the described and/or famous layers. XD
I never realized how much there was to Demogorgon, only ever having the 3.0 Book of Vile Darkness, and wow. Definitely need to plan some abyssal games.
OMG, THAT WAS AMAZING. That is literally my new favorite video of yours ever. Where do you get all this information?? I consider myself to be very knowledgeable about DnD but you never cease to surprise me with things I've never heard before. You are without a doubt the most well read and scholarly Lore master on RUclips, no joke.

i love your content. watched all your videos on this playlist and draw a lot of inspiration from them for setting up and running games or making new characters. definitely one of the best sources on youtube for this obscure lore. bravo.
You can fight Demogorgon in Baldur's Gate 2 as the absolute OPTIONAL end-game boss. So far i found only 1 way to kill him with my warrior/rogue dualclass human. Set max ammount of spike traps around the room before triggering the battle. They will hit him before he gets all his protective magic right after fight starts. Cheesy i know, but i devised that by myself as a kid and the character was legit, so there is that
Well done! I'd just like to add that the lore about death knights and retrievers being created by Demogorgon was in the first edition Fiend Folio. So, was Demogorgon originally one creature nearly split in twain or two creatures imperfectly fused into one? Personally, I favor the former, although I believe a case can be made either way. I'm basing my position on the lore that says Demogorgon was originally the first evil soul that fell into the Abyss; also, it's tidier, and I'm biased in that direction.
Well then... I have this huge map I've been wanting to use for a demon cult-oneshot, I had some ideas but nothing I was truly happy with... This video inspired me like crazy and now I just gotta finish up the details, really solid stuff as always MrRhexx!
Thank you so much for this video. Definitely looking forward to your follow-up to it. I would love to see more about the history of the Abyss, including the Obyrith.
This video is awesome! I`m currently DMing Out of the Abyss and reading about the Rage of Deamons timeline. Its so nice to learn about additional Lore about him. Thank you very much vor that and comming Daemon Videos! I love it!
19:39 I can imagine that the ixitxachitl are so favored by Demogorgon because, thanks to some quirk of their biology or psychology, communities of ixitxachitl aren't capable of infighting. This means their cults to Demogorgon stay focused and therefore _consistent._ Demogorgon can rely on ixitxachitl cults to always give him souls and worship, day in and day out, for centuries.

Suddenly your mind is shattered by a hellish shriek and the beast demands:
"Bow to me, or be one with me...."

Ah, mr rhexx, right on time to stop me from doing class work.
Hehe. What a coincidence. I was just looking him up yesterday after kicking his ass in BG2.
I don't want to know how a Demogorgon reproduces.
I'm gonna watch it anyway
Absolutely love this! I currently have a player at my table who's character is a homebrewed race that is a descendant of Demogorgon! This video gave me a LOT of information that I can use to make the campaign much more enjoyable for him, and hopefully the others at the table as well! These videos have been amazing and very well done! Keep it up UwU
Ooh, what kind of features does this homebrew race have if I may ask?
I don’t know if I’d like to know about it’s reproduction, but learning more about the layer would be cool.
i really wanna see a video about the Cat Lord from you. you go so in depth and almost no one talks about them.
Even a god would think twice before treading in a princes territory
@@Voldrim359orcus killed Primus using a word of power that the very magic of was later destroyed by the gods. Also primus reformed quite soon after.
@@agentchaos9332 Demogorgon, Prince of Demons, *God of Death*
Somehow this is perfect timing with that popular rpghorrorstory that just came out.
Never clicked on anything so fast in my life.
Probably my favorite video of yours so far, thanks for such quality!
These are 100% my favorite types of videos! It merges lore, named creatures, realms etc. Into one
I don't know if I like the idea of knowing how the Demogorgon reproduces, I'm scared to found a new and traumatic fetish.
I just tossed out my homebrew bbeg after this video. He's so much cooler and scarier than I thought.
Only homebrew BBEG that(I think) is as good would be the actual first evil soul, who is still alive, hiding somewhere secret.
Still love having this in the background while I work
I love having this in the foreground while you work.
Seems like you could create a horror campaign just by having adventurers fight a cult of the Demogorgon.
Scans of her reveal that she is Good, and talking to her reveals that she is compassionate (good family raised her nicely)
The catch: she is actually responsible, she was supposed to be twins to lead a Demogorgon cult, but fetus-in-fetu occurred and she absorbed her twin, also absorbing and combining the power.
Give the players an idea that just a fragment of Demogorgon's power in this little girl was enough to cause the massive monster problem.
and all that because Pale Night saw a way for her two-headed kid to rule the Corrupt Chaos.
I thought the queen of Chaos created him?
I’m planning to run an out of the abyss campaign, so this is a godsend! Please, I would LOVE to here any and everything about the abyss and demon lords and their habits and personality. This was AMAZING THANK YOU ✨
Demogorgon lore is pretty deep. Makes for compelling reading and roleplay if handled correctly
you know hearing about how the demogorgon hates their other half and thinks that if they were separated for each other they'd be better off suddenly makes me think of the song "Quest for Camelot - If I Didn't Have You"
I did really enjoy this video. Going in-depth about everything you talk about in all your videos has inspired me role-play a lot of monsters truer to their nature.
I will literally watch any videos that are about D&D Lore. LITERALLY!!
When watching these videos I like to imagine myself in a D&D setting, listening to a master of lore. Very cool content.
Hopefully this means they'll be an expansion of the Ahriman lore video at some point as well.
Demogorgon is by far my favorite demon lord, and the BBEG of my first campaign! It was a nice surprise to see this video! I wasn't aware of him having any... offspring, so I'm curious to hear about them.
Currently running Out of the Abyss, so this was a fun one for me! I'd love to hear more deep dives on other demon lords!
That was a hell of an intro. I listened to it three times before I even got to the rest.
I absolutely love these longer videos, especially for when I am on the road for long-distance drives. Allows me to world-build on the fly with all the extra knowledge, so thank you!
thank you So much for existing and putting out videos! your vids have given me so much inspiration for the campaign i run!
Loving these Rhexx. After the Demogorgon series, I'd love to see videos on the powerful god-level beings in the elemental planes that you mentioned.
Looking forward to the others ones. As a 5e only player and started at low level 3.5. Never realized how nerfed these demon lords are in terms of abilities. Hope you do baphomet next(just because my player is a secret follower of him in a cult lol)
That intro gave me mad Goosebumps
this was a surprise and a most welcomed one!
Yes, this is the deep dive I've wanted since my first read of his entry in 1986. Thanks.
this was certainly a treat. thank you for doing this video, I got chills when I saw the small list of creations he made.
If I recall, Ghaunadaur also has a "Y" shape symbol, and he's a Greater Deity.
XD
I'd love to see a video on the far realm and some of the horrific creatures in it
I never realized how much there was to Demogorgon, only ever having the 3.0 Book of Vile Darkness, and wow. Definitely need to plan some abyssal games.
This was fascinating.
When you finish talking about demogorogon, you should talk more about the plane of water
This video was a real treat. I was first introduced to the demogorgon through the drizzt series. I've been fascinated by him since.
Sources in the video description!
This is actually very informative. I didn't know quite a bit about what you covered on demogorgon. Keep up the great work.
This could be a great series, would love to learn more about other demon lords!
Yes. Yessss. YESSSSSSSSS MORE DEMOGORGON! Last July I finished the Out of the Abyss campaign and my players loved it. I can’t wait to find more out to pull him back in for a cameo in a later campaign
i love seeing these longer videos. you do well at explaining the lore
Bro your the best on forgotten realms i been watching your vids everyday I already finished reading 80 books in forgotten realms but everyday I watch your videos Becouse you explain everything so much better
BLIBDOOLPOOLP BLIBDOOLPOOLP BLIBDOOLPOOLP
We want a video about Blibdoolpoolp where you pronounce its name several times!
Thank you MrRhexx I love lore videos like this. Talk about a being with the Ultimate Gemini complex.
This so great. I love these deep looks
Loving the planes info. My players just got a house that a crazy wizard linked with all the planes but most portals have been broken so all your information is vital and appreciated.
Wooah are we starting a demon lord series?
i love your content. watched all your videos on this playlist and draw a lot of inspiration from them for setting up and running games or making new characters. definitely one of the best sources on youtube for this obscure lore. bravo.
would love a series on all of the demon lords
You can fight Demogorgon in Baldur's Gate 2 as the absolute OPTIONAL end-game boss. So far i found only 1 way to kill him with my warrior/rogue dualclass human. Set max ammount of spike traps around the room before triggering the battle. They will hit him before he gets all his protective magic right after fight starts. Cheesy i know, but i devised that by myself as a kid and the character was legit, so there is that
Clicked so fast. I've been reading about the demogorgan for a week!
It’s amazing how much lore has been withheld from the 5e books!
He is really a lovable kind boi! :3
Well then... I have this huge map I've been wanting to use for a demon cult-oneshot, I had some ideas but nothing I was truly happy with... This video inspired me like crazy and now I just gotta finish up the details, really solid stuff as always MrRhexx!
Got excited when I saw the Title.
Where did you exit to?. Are you okay?.
@@Anaris10 ok
I start the video and immediately see the map from Made In Abyss. That's the coolest Abyss right there in my opinion.
When a dnd video opens with a made in abyss map :'D
Thank you so much for this video. Definitely looking forward to your follow-up to it. I would love to see more about the history of the Abyss, including the Obyrith.
This reminded me of the elder scrolls lore about how true/pure blooded vampires are born....yikes
This video is awesome! I`m currently DMing Out of the Abyss and reading about the Rage of Deamons timeline. Its so nice to learn about additional Lore about him. Thank you very much vor that and comming Daemon Videos! I love it!
And we’re not gonna mention dagon, he’s the one pulling the strings, and ironically, he’s probably one of, if not the least chaotic demon lord!
I am very happy with the choice of Frazetta artwork during this video. Also, am excited to learn more about the first evil soul of the abyss.
I've been waiting for this for so long!
D&D was played as a roleplaying game in first edition
I love these long videos always give me a something to listen too
