for whispy/soft edge and fades on glass, try using the tilt method and apply alcohol around the outside edge of 1/2 of the drop of ink. Only applying around half vs the whole drop of color is crucial as that side will be your softer side, You can blow to dry if keeping your dryer pointed straight at the glass and slowly moving towards the area you laid the alcohol. But first, tilt the glass back and forth in all directions until you achieve the fade your looking for. Works great for me about 90% of the time but, some colors aren’t a hit.
🌹😻💜💜💜🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽you simply literally rescue me by this video. This is the only way to paint on glass. Wonderful explanation and comments 🌹 thank you for your time😍✨
Thank you for making this video. It was very helpful. I bought the alcohol inks, opened them…poured a ton of rubbing alcohol onto the glass and then dripped a bunch of inks all over and then used a high powered blow dryer and everything blew off the glass. Now it is sitting in a bucket in the sink. After all that I decided to turn RUclips University for some help before the paints end up in the garbage.😅
I thoroughly enjoyed watching the video of you painting on glass ... and liked you narrating. It was like a visit while you created! [I've played around on glass and it does seem different than most substrates.] Your framed piece at the end was gorgeous ... cool Eggplant color and gold mixative!! Looking forward to more videos by you! 😉🎨
Thank you 😊! I appreciate the compliments and you watching! Lol My husband says listening to my voiceovers is like listening to me have a phone conversation with a friend 😂. I guess since I sort of consider all of you as friends, that’s an apt description 💜
Paint the alcohol on the glass as well before you start and use a straw as opposed to a drier. Your results still look good though. Greetings from the UK.
Thank you! This was my first time painting on glass with anything lol. I plan to do some more of it though. I think I can do better now that I know a little more about how the inks respond on glass.
I’ve done the glass. Blending solution works better than plain alcohol. It extends the working time plus has binders that helps it to stick to the glass better. It doesn’t let you get it as wispy as on yupo but it does help. I really like how this turned out.
Very pretty piece! Is it safe to assume you framed it with the inked side in? And when you seal it to protect the colors from fading, do you seal just the inked side, or do you do both sides of the glass? And lastly, what do you seal with? Thanks for sharing!
I'm trying to teach my autistic son that all art is beautiful just like you. So if you have any art that you don't like and are going to through away my son would like to have it.
O Lorrie, yesterday I just threw away five of those glass plates 😱 We are cleaning up our attick, my husband asked what I wanten to do with the glass. I said, I haven’t used those in the last five years, throw them away 😂 Oops It is a beautiful peace, I love the colors ❤️ Thank you for this video Lorrie. I enjoyed it, as always 😊
Lol You will get to the point you see everything as a possible substrate for inks or paint. My husband complains because I never want to throw things away. I am always sure I that I can do something with it to make it look good. My problem is I never have time to actually do it 😂. I am glad you enjoyed the video! As always, thank you for watching! 😃🌻
HAHA!!! Lorrie, if you keep mentioning my name like that when I'm least expecting it, I'm likely going to choke on my popcorn. This was another interesting idea. I like buying used frames from the 2nd hand store so you've given me yet another way to be creative. YOU ROCK!!
Lol I’d hate to make you choke on your popcorn! Definitely try this! Second hand frames would be a great idea because they are probably much prettier than the $1 ones I bought lol
I love it! I love working on glass but I never did it on a frame! Something new to do. Thanks for sharing! I remember Myriam mention that when you work on glass you should prepare it with blending solution. I don't know if it would help with the wisps but I love it the way it is! Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family 🦃🦃
Karen Mcdonald Thank you! And thanks for the info about blending solution! I’ll have to give that a try the next time I do one like this 😃. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family as well!!!
The only Glass work I've done is making vases using plastic wrap and splatters with textures using bubble wrap, plastic gloves etc.. I am curious about this. I found some cute 4x6 clear glass frames with rustic metal legs..and was originally going to do something else with them (Decoupage w/accents) but I saw this video and now...I'm thinking of trying it
This is really fun to watch. Can you share where you get your applicators with the fine tip and what type of hairdryer you're using. I know its Revlon but is it a special kind? Thanks!
Thank you! I got the needle nose applicator bottles and the hair dryer from Amazon. There are links in the description boxes for each video (just click on the title below where the video is playing), but I know if you are using a smart TV, you can't access the description box. The hairdryer is a 500 watt Revlon styling brush hairdryer with the brush attachment removed. It has a cool setting on it, which is what I mostly use. It does have a fairly high airflow, but I think that is what helps me get the really soft, wispy edges that I love (once I learned to control the inks with that higher airflow lol). You certainly don't have to use the one I do, but I do recommend that you use one with a cool setting so you don't have to worry about warping your paper, that it not be over 500 watts. I have tried one that was 750 watts and it was surprising how much stronger the airflow was from it than from the 500. I haven't found one in the US that is less than 500 watts that has a cool setting on it, but if I ever do I will let everyone know. Hope this helps some!
My Ranger ink didn't stay in a nice blob...it started creeping around as soon as I put it down. My whole painting was a hot mess. I used Ranger colors, Pinata Brass, and 99% alcohol. It acted NOTHING like yours!
I am not sure what advice to give you since I can’t see exactly what happens when you use it. I don’t know how much you put down at once, but using too much ink at one time can cause it to be much harder to control. Start out with one single drop of ink with one drop of brass on it, then just a little alcohol to get it moving. You can add more alcohol a drop or two at a time as you need to before your original puddle dries to keep that spot moving until you have it the way you want it. Just hang in there and keep practicing and you’ll figure out what works best for you. 💜💜
Lorrie, I want to use the glass in a window. I noticed your response below about using UV protection. Doesn't that make it fade-proof? Do you think it would help to treat both sides of the glass? Thanks for sharing your beautiful work & experience.
😃 It might help to treat both sides, I’m not sure about that, but no artwork should ever be hung in direct sunlight no matter what medium is used. It’s just not possible to block all UV rays that will damage and fade inks or paint. Putting extra layers of the UV protection spray might help keep it colorful for longer, but I really have no idea how long. I have heard various things about how quickly the colors fade, even if treated, from less than a year to several years. It will probably depend on how much sun your glass gets every day. The lighter the colors you use, the faster they will fade, too. Since I have only been doing this for a year or so, I just have to go by what I have heard from other artists about how quickly the alcohol inks fade in sunlight. I’m sorry I don’t have and firsthand experience in that to help you out some. 💜💜
Merci beaucoup!
This can be done on glass, but you would have to do some research on what is safe to seal it with for drinking out of. I haven’t done anything that would be used with food or drink so I am not sure what the best and safest sealants would be for that. 💜💜
A S Rahman I just sealed the glass like I would a painting on yupo or other paper surface. I used 4 light coat of Krylon Kamar varnish, letting it dry very good between each one. Then 4 coats of Krylon UV Archival protectant varnish (I used glossy but it comes in matte and semi-gloss as well). Just make sure it dries completely between coats so it won’t start running. Hope this helps! 😃
I seal the painting with spray on Kamar varnish and then UV Archival varnish and then just put the glass back in the original frame. I did not put another piece of glass over it. I hope this helps and that I answered your question. The french to english translations are never quite right. Thank you for watching!

hello i tried this varnish alone but the ink was dissipating. you use two? Can I use your model? thank you for your answer I appreciate very much. octinuate your beautiful work.
I use a few light coats of Kamar varnish by Krylon first then a few light coats of the UV Archival by Krylon. Using the Kamar first keeps the ink from reactivating. Make sure you apply light coats and let them dry in between applications or the varnish won’t be smooth. You are welcome to use any of my work as a model to try 😃.

I love that Revlon hairdryer
My sis in law had a box of stuff she was tossing..I snagged it and use it All the time for crafting and I love it.

Hi Chandra! Quick question, can varnished glass with alcohol ink be stacked on top of each other for a 3D effect?

I'm curious too, I would imagine sealed with painted side IN away from dust etc.even if sealed.. and I would think you could clean the glass that way
It turned out beautifully!
