  • Ever wondered how to make your own Nintendo 64 reproduction cartridges? Now you can, and it’s easier than you might expect! You could be playing romhacks, fan-translations, and obscure titles within minutes with this new tech. Thanks for watching!
    Head over to RetroStage’s website to get your own N64 Blaster and Retro Blaster Programmer: retrostage.net/
    They also sell all 5 CIC chips, and the translucent cartridge cases seen in this video. :)
    Check out John Riggs!: / riggstalgic
    Animal Crossing English Rom: For legal reasons I cannot directly link to any game roms, and you should always own the game in question if you plan to use a rom/emulation. That being said, if you are interested in the specific build of Animal Crossing which bypasses the N64 internal clock, you will likely need to search for something like “Everdrive 64 compatible Animal Forest”. Please be aware that the game may need a donor EEPROM to save progress.

      Them games dont work with that PCB matter of fact no hacks work on those mybe 1 hack .N64 has 4MB to start with so the Expansion adds another 4MB making the console use a total of 8MB) the extra Ram is only accessed if instructed to do so, while alot of hacks work anyway on the N64 some don't because the ROM was expanded and the console can't load all the data even with the extra ram... forget retrostage should get New N64 programmer/PCB's coming very soon these are much cheaper an can hold up to 512mbit memory (64mb) www.mortoffgames.com/files/TheN64projectbyRetroCircuits.pdf

    • @thecircuitjerk1685
      @thecircuitjerk1685 7 лет назад +2

      This demonstrates a fundamental misunderstanding of how the N64 works. Alternatively, you may not be as clear as you intend, in which case, I apologize if I misunderstood.
      First, yes - the N64 has a maximum of 8MB of RAM. However, the games are not 'loaded' into RAM in order to run; because cartridges are essentially daughterboards interfacing directly with the N64 hardware, the ROM data is accessed directly. The RAM is for loading things like textures, which is why we'll never see a truly impressive HQ mod capable of running on real hardware - the N64 simply can't handle the data throughput required. *thoughtfully* Though I do wonder whether 8MB is the actual limit for the N64 architecture - if not, it may be possible for fans to create expanded RAM carts to ALLOW things like HQ mods. Hmm...
      Secondly, most ROM hacks are tested on emulators, which work on a sort of "good-enough" mentality. Emulators aren't designed to 100% accuracy to the hardware they emulate, and just because it runs on an emulator, doesn't mean it will run on real hardware.

    Appears to be a great product and a lot less hassle than other options, but MAN it's spendy. $52.50 for the programmer, $28 for the Blaster and $6 for the casing. That's $86.50 to be able to essentially play a ROM on a standard N64.

    • @nine1690
      @nine1690 2 года назад +1

      Its all extremely expensive for no reason. Especially those cartridges. Other Repro cartridge manufacturers (GBA specifically) charge $5-$15 for a cart. He charges $30. And all readers are cheaper too. Those GBA carts even work with Pokémon and RTC, his never could.

    • @jesterscorner879

      @@nine1690 There is one plus with the latest update, you no longer have to select/set the CIC chip/pins and they moved the battery to the front so the board will now fit inside an OEM Case. You can repurpose an OEM case from a dirt cheap sports game.

    If i had this and if I was older enough to understand this, I would put a Rayman prototype rom on a Super NES cartridge!

    Another method would be to get an N64 Flash Cart, that allows you to put multiple ROMs on one cartridge.

    I enjoy how when you trying to write to the N64 cartridge you have to do Initialize, Erase, Write, Disconnect and they are in positions 1, 3, 2, 4. Wouldn't it make more sense for them to be in positions 1, 2, 3, 4? Obviously not a problem for you to fix but I still find it funny.
