i'm not a game collector at all but this showed up on my recommended and i gotta say that this is one of the best videos i've ever watched on youtube, period. your excitement and your delivery of the concept were so enjoyable to watch that i almost want to take that concept further and box everything i own. congratulations on a great video.
+Adi I really appreciate you taking the time to give me such a humbling compliment. I am nearly speechless, so thank you for checking it out and I'm glad you enjoyed the video.
Absolutely fascinating approach. I'd never print at home - ink/toner ain't cheap and the low print res would drive me nuts. But will definitely queue a bunch up to go print at Staples on some fancy paper. Subscribed, incredible video. Thank you.
Thank you! I printed these at the original scan resolution of 300 dpi. I would have prefered to have them laser printed. Luckily at such a small size the ink jet prints don't seem low res to me. If you were to watch my Mario Kart Card Game video ruclips.net/video/hEYlAcmkMkM/видео.html , I mention that my local print shop has enhanced their self service options, even allowing you to bring your own paper. If cost is an issue, printing at home should be cheaper than Staples, but starting with a glossy cardstock should eliminate the need for laminating, eliminating a step and producing a fine result. If you follow this through to completion, I would love to see your results! Thank you for your thoughts.
I already bought a bunch of DS cases w/ GBA slots for some GBA games, but I'm definitely expanding to cover some of my other carts this way. GOLD! Definitely sharing this around.
I just retired from the Marines and am finally in a place where I can start collecting and displaying my systems and games without fear of them being damaged in moves. Your series has given me some good ideas on how to get started.
I´m a budget collector. So my most Nintendo cartridges are lose. Your solution is a great way to store them. The DIY instructions are great. I will try it.
Thank you for your Game Collection Storage videos. These really helped me. I have been trying to figure out a good solution for my Game Boy cartridges for a month now. After watching a couple of your videos the light bulb finally came on. It took me 3 whole days to do my collection. Now that project is behind me thanks to you. Also, one thing that really helped me was the, "don't let not-perfect get in the way of good" comment you said.
Clever! I love that they're a unique size (collecting purists can give a sigh of relief) to take up just the necessary space, with game manuals easily stored separately. And I love DIY gaming projects. Quite the springtime project you've inspired here.
It really means a lot to me that you feel that way. Most advice in internet entertainment is to show the best parts in the beginning to grab people's attention, but I wanted to keep a more traditional narrative and I like to keep surprises for later in some of my videos.
I have to admit that I was expecting your to be okay at best. But instead you completely blew away my expectations. Truly fantastic both idea and execution
These tiny boxes are adorable! May use them for my GG collection. For my Game Boy collection I use a variation on the cassette case; the polyvinyl cassette case! It's a version of the standard cassette case that actually has a full cover similar to a DVD case. They can be bought for cheap, and all it takes is a quick resizing of a DS format cover to fit onto it. Coupled with a cardstock insert, it makes for a very secure and attractive storage solution.
I would like to know more about this! I can't find this item by name, have you posted any pictures of this anywhere that you could direct me? Where can they be bought? Anyway, thanks for viewing and commenting, I appreciate it.
Unfortunately I haven't posted any pictures yet, but that will be coming very soon (I just finished up my whole collection). Most websites that sell media protection will carry them. This isn't the site I used, but the prices are comparable. tapeline.info/v2/polycases-flexible-frosty-cassette-case.html
I knew about those printable box arts but I thought they're too big for my very limited space. Just make them smaller! This idea is brilliant! Also with the laminating on both sides! Can't wait to try it out myself Thanks for sharing!
So funny! I was the opposite. I didn't know the printable boxes existed. I first had the idea to make small boxes or sleeves. I knew that front and rear box art was easy to locate. It was only while trying to find examples of box spines that I found the printable boxes. That is what brought the whole idea together. Thanks!
I had no problem hitting subscribe after watching this extremely intuitive video. I‘m a DIY fanatic and hadn‘t even thought about doing this for my GB/GBA games. Thanks for the ideas!
Certainly don't have a "Collection" but I'm now going to do this for my handful of N64 games without boxes. Thanks for the tip! Just tried OOT on my home Black and White laser printer before doing any proper ones on card. Came out great! Subscribed.
you can find an inkjet for cheap, and if you can't do that you can always do what I did a couple years ago when I made these boxes and just print them out at your local library, for me it was $.50 a color print =-}
Most places that do printing services are sub 50 cents a standard 8.5x11 for card stock, so if you load it up properly you can hit up your local printer (FedEx, Staples, etc) and do a bunch in one go for less than $10, but yeah, unless you're using color laser/toner, this is pretty expensive... But, honestly, go with a company that does printing because they'll have everything set up to do nice quality from the get go (e.g. if you don't want to do the lamination, you can opt for high-gloss which will still look good for roughly the same price as non-gloss)
I usually just snip off a piece of plastic from non GBA DS cases (the current ones on Nintendo's shop) and print cover project covers, but this is way smaller and space saving. Great job dude.
My jaw dropped when you finally revealed the mini box, I wish they sold them in this manner to begin with, with enough space for a mini manual, but anyway,, also LOVED the little boxes for n64 games, I can’t wait to try this
Dude, you just saved me so much money for storage of my n64 cartridges. I was going to go the universal game case route, but these mini cartridge boxes are AWESOME!
This is perfect. I love the mini box idea!! I’ve been looking for a cheaper way to protect my games and make the look nice on the shelf. Thank you so much for making this video!!!!!!!!
TopSpot123 you did! I have a ton of games and no safe or easy way to display them. I’ve been looking for weeks now. But plastic cases are so expensive. I’d prefer to spend money on games obviously. I’m happy I found your channel. You just got a new subscriber
Thank you! I have a lot of loose cartridges laying around and with this I can organize them better and prevent to lose them xD thank you again and i can't wait for more content!
I just recently started putting my console games in Universal Game Cases but this is a fantastic solution for handheld games, thanks for a great video!
So I thought this video was over about halfway through, but you just kept going and going! So many great ideas! The one suggestion I have for something you might want to try instead of lamination is to use a clear spray paint. I've made card boxes before and they came out pretty nice.
+thermodynamicist That's a good suggestion! I've seen different clear coats used for various craft purposes, so now I'm interested in trying it for this.
This was very inspiring and a great alternative to just making box art for those plastic custom cases you see everywhere and I think I’d prefer this when I don’t already have the original box
Love the idea. Great way to store your games without having to invest in full CIB collection and save space simultaneously. Only thing I could say is this is limited to people who use desktop computers and have a little tech sav. For example: between a smart phone, tablet, WiFi, and modern gen game consoles I haven’t touch an actual computer in a few years. Plus to do this you have to invest in the equipment necessary. Putting those obstacles aside I still love the idea. Also earlier you mentioned that using those websites to download the image and then taking it to a company for printing could cause an issue with copyright, but with a simple alteration to the design using the software you showed like say, a small stamp that reads “unofficial product”, couldn’t that circumvent any legal issues? Plus it wouldn’t detract from the overall quality. it’d be small and barely look any different from the original for collectors but diffferent enough to not infringe on copyright
+Greg Buffington On some level, I've known about the decline in desktop (& laptop) computer use over the last several years, but it never occurred to me that this would be relevant to my content until I noticed comments asking for the best iPad app to edit images with. I haven't been without a computer since I got my first pc in 1995, plus I use several at work, so I unfortunately projected that my found audience would be in a similar situation! But still, with public libraries, or perhaps friends or family members, I hope anyone who would like to proceed on a project like this can find a solution. As for copyright, I'm less concerned with the actual legality, but more concerned with an employee rightly trying to discourage an infringement, and the conflict therein. Thankfully, I've noticed one of my local printshops has improved the self service area so there needs not be any clerk involvement. I've taken advantage of this in a project that I'll be sharing in my next video. Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts!
As an American, I had to look up 'chuffed', *whew*, I was afraid that I offended you! For being so good humoured, I added a link to you in my description. I'm pretty chuffed that you thought enough to comment, thanks so much!
TopSpot123 yeah! Working for an American company I would be more considerate to the trans Atlantic lingo.thanks for adding the link. I watch a lot of nerdy videos on Game Boy and it was just random that I identified one of my photos. I’ve since realised how much of our stuff appears on Google Images. Boom!
Thank you for this! This solves the exact problem I was scratching my head about for my snes collection, and I've already started prototyping following your tips. Loving the other videos in this series as well.
This is a great idea, and the fact that it doesn't involve destroying good DS cases/throwing out cassettes makes it all the better. My old reservation is that I do intend to have some actual boxed games & I'm not sure how I'd go about displaying them on a shelf next to these lol. Still plan on doing it though! Love it. Thanks for the video.
I believe in having options, even if it makes it tougher to decide! It might seem silly but I have many of my original boxes for my cartridges, but I have them all stored separately in my garage. That way the carts take up much less room in my living space. But everyone has their own preferred style, right?
This'll solve the major issue I have with storing my gb carts in cassette cases. Thank you for the idea, I'll also make the boxes for my gba games as well. Now I'm off to view your other videos
I love this idea, especially for odd consoles like Gamegear where it would be near impossible to find universal cases or would be inauthentic to use. The cover concept is cool too!
Amazing work on those boxes! Thanks for the link for the custom game cases. I bought a few carts from ebay and they came in the custom boxes and I was just blown away.
Thank you for this! I wanted to add some boxes of games of my childhood to my set, but being a child, I didn't keep many or they have bad wear, then I thought about making custom boxes. One search later and I'm here! I don't have a lamination machine but I do have gloss photo card, so hopefully that will do. Miniaturizing the boxes is a great idea though, and I'll try it with some PS1 & PS2 boxes as well! A well earned sub, I'll probably use this as room decor as well, thanks again!
amazing video. you went into such great detail to explain what and why you did this... This video now has me wanting to star my own GBA collection, as not having boxes has always put me off to displaying any of them
definetely a great idea. i've said we need to bring cartidges back for a new game console and i'm going to design one. though i'm a costume designer i have great respects for old school even though my genertion was xbox 360 and PS2. i've decided to design a concept of a modernized catridge game with all the modern sandards and my own design features. but this definetely gives me ideas on how to make the games more displayable for players.
+john grinwis I like this idea! I've had similar discussions with other collectors, but most that I've talked to don't see much value in having a physical representation of a digital purchase. But I've seen a few examples of collectors who feel otherwise. For instance, they are making Nintendo Switch game covers for eShop only games.
i think it make a nice reminder of what you own i that's important in a age where theirs at least 5 different video game services on pc alone/i think its a nice middle ground for someone who wanted a box but ended up going digital because of lack of stock of a game at day one (ALSO) a good replacement for dvd cases which tend to just get a bit ugly with age
Wow glad this popped up in my recommended. I've started collecting for GB/GBC/GBA and N64 and haven't been able to come up with a good way to store them. So far, I managed to get a few of my GBA games into DS cases, but I didn't have cases for all of them, and I just had the classic GB and GBC carts in a little pocket sized tech case. And the N64 games are just stacked on my shelf. Luckily, everything sits in my closet under another shelf where they don't get any light, but I'd still like that clean, uniform look for everything. I think I might try this if I can convince my parents to get the cardstock. Thanks for the video, man. I'll definitely be trying this as soon as possible. Also... Nobody: Life hack channels: 16:34
Just only buy games you wanna play and think you will. Also limit yourself a few games every month or half for example 2 games every 2 weeks. That way you can enjoy games and not go overboard.
I say making reproduction boxes is fine, as long as they are clearly marked as reproductions somewhere on them. And I totally love these custom tiny-boxes! Great idea.
I gave this a try last night and I figured it out thank you so much for showing me how to do this I wish I knew how to add photos to the comments so I can show you my first try
One of the best idea for game boy cartridge man. Can't wait till I'm done with college and start collecting
+dabeastfranco Awesome, thanks!
Dude me too. Huhuhu
It's been two years, how is your collection going, If you've started it? Id love to hear it!

I’m actually in love with this Gameboy box design
I'm very fond of it too!
This is honestly the most clear and straight forward tutorial video I've ever seen. Love it, it was helpful aswell. Thanks!
I truly appreciate your compliment. I usually rewrite my script so many times to try to improve it!

@@TopSpot123 Heh, I didn't expect you to read my comment
Kudos to you! Your mini boxes are amazing. I think your mini n64 look better than the original bulky boxes.
I think so too, thanks!
That is TOO CUTE!

What I like about this is that you don't try to clone the boxes! Great idea.
This may be the best solution to this problem I have seen thus far.

Huh. The mini-box is a really cool idea! Definitely gonna try this out for my Game Boy and N64 games.
Props on the proper cutting technique, moving the thing you're cutting and not the scissors. Great video!
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks for checking it out.
if you don't have lamination paper, you can use clear packing tape
Collecting on a budget? that color ink aint cheap haha

Very creative! I tend to go the emulation route personally for Gameboy games, but this is still VERY satisfying to watch. Great video!
Thank you very much!
I think I'll attempt those Mini N64 boxes, now that I think about it. What program did you use to edit/size the images?
Everything is in the description. 👍

Edit: I love your little boxes, they seem really nice. :D
The cassette cases are pretty slick, too.
Dude I am so glad I found this video, I had no idea people sold custom game cases for GBA games. I’m sooooo about to get a case for each game
In case you didn't see it, I made a video about customgamecases.com ruclips.net/video/02ciaWS3Dis/видео.html

+Emannuel Martinez Thank you for your praise! I'm so glad you found the ideas useful. It means a lot to me.
Thank you for this video! I'm addicted to making boxes now
Yes, I found it very addictive too!
Mid tier? I'd say that's pretty top tier considering it's allows you to make it any style you want. Full customization. What a splendid idea.
Thank you
That's a great idea! I'm not a collector, but if I was, I would definitely be doing this for my entire collection.
Great on giving this new collector a way to shelve games.
I'm happy to share!
Im very much tempted to do this since the change in size makes it somewhat viable to have on a shelf.
I hope you make at least one! Thanks.
This vid blew my mind! Nice work my friend 👍
That's very kind of you to say, thank you.
The boxes look REALLY good but man, that is a lot of effort. Totally worth it in the end though!
Wow. How have I not discovered this channel?
Great stuff!

A well earned sub, I'll probably use this as room decor as well, thanks again!
I hope I could help, thank you!
This video deserves a million views. Freaking amazing.
thanks
“I used a clear pen” had me in stitches 😂 great video mate, just wish I had the patience to do this
That looks soooooo cool on a shelf. I would definitely consider doing it for my N64, SNES and GameBoy games.
My wife has a Cricut machine and you can use that to cut these out precisely. This was a great idea, thanks for the video!
Oh my god! These are sick! Seriously the n64 game display is completely amazing!
Thank you!
My mind is still trying to process how damn cool this is. Great idea!!!
THAT SNOOPY'S MAGIC SHOW THEME HIT ME *RIGHT IN THE NOSTALGIA*
Fantastic video! Great depth and exploration, and I really appreciate the effort put forth towards a topic that is easy to dismiss
amazing video. you went into such great detail to explain what and why you did this...
I just LOVE this video, thank you!
Thank you more. Even a year later, I'm pretty proud of how the video turned out.
This is a great method of storing the game cartridges, great job mate!
Thanks, I'm glad you liked it!
this seems like a fun project to show off someones digital collection of games to i got a lot of 3ds/pc games that would look nice on my self
Really appreciate the effort that went into making this video!
Thank you!
Your content is so underrated. Thanks for the tips
You are welcome, and I appreciate your sentiment.
Great idea! I will definitely be using this method when I get around to adding more gameboy games to my collection. Thanks, man!
You are welcome, and thanks for the comment!
Absolutely! Looking forward to some more of your content! :)

I hope you get the chance to give it a shot. I had fun making them and it was a major learning experience.
Great work on your custom boxes. Really cool ideas!
Thank you so much! None of my gameboy games have cases and now I finally have a way to store them and have them look nice!
I only have a around 5 games and that is not stopping me from doing this 😂. Thanks for the awesome video.
Amazing video. Instant fan and subscriber.
Imma Jake me too!
Dude prefer you to have 1M+ subscribers since you edit all these things soooooooooooooooo well.
I'm still learning, but I'm trying to improve each time.
Dude, this might just be the start of a very unhealthy addiction for me XD
+SJ Webster You've been warned...*evil laugh*
Just only buy games you wanna play and think you will. Also limit yourself a few games every month or half for example 2 games every 2 weeks. That way you can enjoy games and not go overboard.
Amazing video ! Gave me ideas to box my Game Boy Advance SP with a cute custom box !
Sounds neat! Come back with a picture if you get it to work out.
Even though I normallly get those custom cases for my Gameboy games, I might want to try this.
+teh_supar_hackr 0010101 I really like miniatures, so this was really fun for me.
I do too, as I have a collection of papercraft consoles (Such as Commodore PET, NES, Atari 2600, Virtual Boy, ect).
Papercraft Virtual Boy? Awesome!
yeah, it's mainly the system itself but without the stand, which I'm wanting to make one that matches the original console.
teh_supar_hackr 0010101 I must find this and make paper consoles
Love it, I don't have that many old games without cases, so that's a cool idea. Thanks
SUCH A GOOD IDEA! AWESOME VIDEO! PROBABLY GONNA TRY THIS!
Good ideas here, and nicely explained. Also, thumbs up for the switch cartridge mini box :)
Thanks!
I love this!!! Tiny stuff is always better than it full size brethren.
Nice Video, I think I'll start printing some for my cart games that I don't have boxes for. Right now they're all just scattered somewhere.
I say making reproduction boxes is fine, as long as they are clearly marked as reproductions somewhere on them.
And I totally love these custom tiny-boxes! Great idea.
Thank you for your thoughts! I didn't label the mini boxes as reproductions, are you mad at me? ;)
Glad I came across this video, very cool concept and looks fantastic!
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it!
I gave this a try last night and I figured it out thank you so much for showing me how to do this I wish I knew how to add photos to the comments so I can show you my first try
That's awesome! You can put pictures in RUclips comments, but I'm also on Twitter and Facebook and you could share pics there.
@@TopSpot123 you were right it’s freaking addictive I can’t stop making boxes now

You're welcome and I'm glad you like it.
I’m a new collector so I’m totally doing this!
Awesome!
