- Join us as we eat dim sum at Honolulu Chinatown! My friend, Camille, and I go Sing Cheong Yuan, a Chinese bakery located at 1027 Maunakea St, Honolulu (on the island of Oahu, Hawaii). They offer take out items, and they're well known for their mooncakes, manapaus (cha siu baos), and more. We bought a lot items and eat them at a park. Enjoy!

I'm in love...with that strawberry mochi mooncake. My goodness.....
Yeah, the strawberry mochi mooncake is good! I went back another day for more 😋🥰
The “Yuk” face is okay….that would also be my expressions if I do not like the taste. 😂
True! 😀
Half moon dumpling shown is what my Canto/Toisanese/SzeYip fam calls a fun-gor or steamed giaoji. Definite home dumpling we would make. Grew up using tortilla press to make the dough into round wrappers, and pass to my aunts, poh and mom to fill/crimp.
Ah... I remember that my PoPo has that tortilla press too!
Whoo, that was a log of food you both cycled through!
We had a lot of leftovers
you gotta do a clip on Hawaiian food. I enjoyed the one you did with your mom cooking. I like old school stuff.
Thanks for the feedback, Sam 👍🏽
My favorite Chinese bakery in Chinatown! But you should have gotten the macadamia nut chews along with the peanut ones for your mom. With that macadamia nut version, you'll really be telling your mom that you love her.
Been to the Golden Gate Bakery many, many times. But sorry, I think Sing Cheong Yuan is better. But the gai mei bao at GGB is a winner!
Mahalo for this video. Hopefully I'll be home to visit my mom before the end of the year and go to Honolulu's Chinatown.
Thanks for watching this video, Marvin! I got the macadamia candies for my parents, too! They like them more than the peanut ones. Hope you enjoy your next trip to Oahu to see your mom.
I really love Pork Hash. Living in California in the '70s, my favorite Chinese dessert was Rice Cake.
I love pork hash too!
@@JoannaHopeLai When I have money, I buy Pork Hash @ the Bishop St. 7-Eleven.
Just tried this place the other week. Was craving manapua and pork hash. This place is good, prolly the best manapua place we got left. The other really good places like libbys closed down a few years ago
Yeah, I enjoyed the manapua. 👍🏽 I also went back for their joong.
Just found your channel, thanks for sharing your adventure. Love your energy! Keep it up.
Thank you, Dave! I appreciate your encouraging words.
Golden Gate Bakery’s dan tat are so good! I liked their fermented rice cakes and almond cookies too.
So good!
I live in Calgary, Canada. Hong Hong/Cantonese. My mother used to make those leaf-wrapped things which we call sticky rice from scratch. More filling and variety. I used to dip pieces in sugar.
Love your videos....I can't stop smiling!
Thanks, Aunt Diana! I appreciate you watching these videos.
Going to have to check them out! Thanks!!
Thanks did watching, Melyssa!
Happy Days in Kaimuki!
Dim sum! 🥟💛
Dim sum is sit down and order from cart or menu. Manapua, Hawaiian version of dim sum, is order takeout go home and eat. Some items are adapted to Hawaii.
👍🏽
Love it there!! The Tung Mai is soo good there too!
Mmm... I'll have to get that next time!
No flies :)
=)
Great picks
👍🏽
Alot of the Chinese immigrants that started SFO Chinatown went thru Hawaii, mid-1880s or so
Yuuummmmm!
😋😋😋
I am in the City... We hit Good Mong Kok Bakery on Stockton on Sunday's when we grocery shop! The Shark used to be on smash. What strange is I only got groceries, hit the restaurant store across the street from green apple or green apple, or duck on Clement but never dim sum! Bon Appetito
Great char siu baos at Good Mong Kok! Good memories...
Delicious. Thank you. VG
Thank you!
Fruit preserves are yummy!
Yum!
Golden Gate Barkey!
For the dan tat! Let's go!
@@JoannaHopeLai I really think they have the best dan tat!
Best bakeries, cheapest and freshest produce too there in Chinatown. Much like SFO.
👍
The savory "jin dui" is called hom siu gok and the half moon is called fun gor in Cantonese.
Ah, good to know. Thanks, Minnie!
Look good food
👍🏽
I’m also originally from the Bay Area and came out to Honolulu a couple of years ago. I miss SF dimsum. So many good places gone. Tong Kiang. HK Lounge II. At least Yank Sing is still doing well. Any suggestions for similar places on Oahu. I miss it :(. Thanks. Fun channel.
Ah yes, I liked HK Lounge II too! For dim sum, I’ve gone to Jade Dynasty in Ala Moana. Though, I hear Ginger & Garlic in Chinatown is good.
I work just around the corner and I haven't been there before haha
I like try!!!!!!
Yay!
Should checkout Yee Yum Kee Dim Sum
I've been to Yung Yee Kee! I did a TikTok video of it 👍
@@JoannaHopeLai...No TikTok
Sing cheong my favorite 😊
Yummmm. Thanks for watching this video!
Can you remember the total price for all of it ? I probably need to visit Chinatown next year on my holiday 🤙
The receipt and total cost is shown at the 1:58 mark.😀 Enjoy Chinatown when you go on your holiday!
56 bucks
Dim Sum is way better in SF....my favorite is at Ctiy View Dim Sum on Commercial St.... and my favorite hole in the wall is Capital Restaurant on Clay St
I've been to both of those places.👍 Capital is a great for late night eats! Comfort food...
I cant find Hawaiian style chinese food in the mainland.....like those rectangle gau gee
❤❤❤😂
😀👍
That's not Dim Sum, that's Manapua lol. I like their Honey Twists...
🤓🤓
I dont know about Hawaii but Dim Sum prices here in California has sky rocketed to $8 to $10 per plate.... I am boycotting Dim Sum
I love dim sum too much to boycott it, haha
her in the mainland....san diego ....dim sum prices are nuts...$5 to $10 per order.....not worth it....Hawaii probably still affordable as well as SF
now days dim sum is soo expensive...probably still cheap in Hawaii.
That’s awesome.. how do you ladies keep so trim and not gain weight. 😉
Great vid, but your friend just has a negative grumpy vibe!
😂😂
dose not look too good and expensive .
Fook Lam and Jade Dynasty for the sensory overload 😮
I've been to Jade Dynasty, though not Fook Lam! I hear their dinners are good.
If you like roast duck go to roast duck kitchen in Aiea ❤
Ooh, thanks for the rec! Appreciate it!
IMO, locally not considered to be "dim sum".
Manapua...
I enjoy my food hot better 😋and clean table with no graffiti. Sorry 😔
Understandable. This is good for quick take out, tho sit down dim sum is great
@@JoannaHopeLai I know it's not your fault but thanks for your kind understanding as response 👍😎
Thanks!
Thank you!
