- A boy’s journey. A mother’s love. Miles of burning city between them.
Saoirse Ronan stars in the new film Blitz, from Academy Award Winner Steve McQueen. In select theaters November 1, streaming on Apple TV+ November 22. apple.co/_Blitz
Sir Steve McQueen’s “Blitz” follows the epic journey of George (Elliott Heffernan), a 9-year-old boy in World War II London whose mother Rita (Saoirse Ronan) sends him to safety in the English countryside. George, defiant and determined to return home to his mom and his grandfather Gerald (Paul Weller) in East London, embarks on an adventure, only to find himself in immense peril, while a distraught Rita searches for her missing son.
Written and directed by Academy and BAFTA Award-winning McQueen, the film stars Academy and BAFTA Award nominee Ronan and newcomer Heffernan, with Harris Dickinson, Benjamin Clementine, Kathy Burke, Paul Weller, Stephen Graham, Leigh Gill, Mica Ricketts, CJ Beckford, Alex Jennings, Joshua McGuire, Hayley Squires, Erin Kellyman and Sally Messham rounding out the cast. McQueen’s Lammas Park produces alongside Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner of Working Title Films, Arnon Milchan, Yariv Milchan and Michael Schaefer for New Regency, with producers Anita Overland and Adam Somner.
McQueen reunites with production designer Adam Stockhausen (“12 Years a Slave,” “Widows”), costume designer Jacqueline Durran (“Small Axe”), and composer Hans Zimmer (“12 Years a Slave”), with cinematographer Yorick Le Saux (“Little Women”) and makeup designer Naomi Donne ( “Spectre,” “Skyfall”).

Saoirse now playing mother roles. I didn't need to feel this old today.
We are now entering "Saoirse is a mother in a movie" era.
I was not ready at allllllll
An watch she win an oscar for it lol
Brie Larson won an Oscar for playing a mom at 26.
She's just 30, which is more than adequate to portray a mother in the 1940s. They could've used someone in her early 20s and it would still make sense
the kid that she didn't want @@axr7149
Will this film finally give my dear Saoirse Ronan an Oscar?
Probably not, watch out for Emilia perez and Anora. Both great performances from actresses
@@znamir1493 If it comes down to these three, Ronan will easily clear them. She has the name, the status and the narrative. For the other two, the nomination is the win I'm afraid. Both first timers, one very young and the other not British or American. In case you don't know these are all disadvantages for them.
Between this and the Outrun she has a good shot this year
@@katiedoyle819 It'll be similar to Al Pacino should that happen. Pacino was 0-for-6 before being double Oscar nominated in the same year (Supporting for GLENGARRY GLEN ROSS and Lead for SCENT of A WOMAN), marking his 7th and 8th nominations respectively. He lost Supporting early but won Lead just a couple of hours later.
@@katiedoyle819 Should she get double nominated, she will be the female Al Pacino, who had 6 nominations without wins before being double nominated (his 7th and 8th noms) in one year, winning Lead.
Soairse Ronan playing mom roles in movies is something I wasn't expecting to see any time soon.
Between "Blitz" and "The Outrun", this seems like it's going to be a fun award show run for Saoirse Ronan
I wonder which she will campaign for more.
@@adolfopena7358 Probably Blitz
@@adolfopena7358 As it is obviously the best picture nominee
@@adolfopena7358 If she has to split both movies, then I guess The Outrun for Best Actress then Blitz for Best Supporting Actress
@@adolfopena7358 She has more of a chance in supporting, which she'll apparently be submitting to for Blitz.
McQueen is one of those filmmakers that is slow with his output but his filmography is almost entirely 5 star films. Definitely a quality over quantity filmmaker. This one feels far less cynical & more hopeful than most of the work he's done up to now but I'm here for it. Been waiting on this film for two or three years.
In the best way, it feels like Nolan level BUT (and I love both directors) I think McQueen's will be a lot more cohesive.
have u not watched small axe? mcqueen made 5 films in 2020 alone
Widows was a flop. I think McQueen misunderstood the social dynamics of a city like Chicago and badly adapted Lynda LaPlantes brilliant tv show. Otherwise I would agree. 12 years, hunger and shame are brilliant.
He's one of the best directors alive for sure but I wouldn't say he's "slow with his output" (like it's somewhat his fault). He's been releasing stuff almost every year since 2018. Also, ambitious projects with a personal voice take time to develop and get green lit, even for an Oscar winner like himself. Nolan makes one every 2 or 3 years but is maybe less consistent with quality and works within more familiar boundaries (and very very few directors have his kind of clout). McQueen's vision is more diverse and expansive, IMO. Just look at the mind-blowing Small Axe
Give Saoirse Ronan her overdue Oscar. She should have won twice already for Brooklyn and Lady Bird or AT LEAST once. This year she has two amazing performances so if she doesn't win, I'll get really really mad.
But she's not the best when she is nominated. Frances and Brie were miles ahead.
@@AwardshqActually not true.
@parsashojaei1352 not true but she lost every head to head award haha
@@Awardshq Yeah I love Saoirse but her performance in Brooklyn was fine. Nothing special. Brie meanwhile was outstanding in Room.
She should have won for Atonement. I’m a fan of hers since she was a kid. And although I think she’s the wrong actress for this role, I’m also sure that she’s great in it as usual.
I see it now ‘Academy Award Winner Saoirse Ronan’
Will watch anything Saoirse is in!
One of my TOP most anticipated movies of the year!!! A WW2 from the perspective of a child seems super interesting. This looks amazing.
come and see was also from that perspective, its very dark though. difficult to watch
Spielberg did as well with Empire of the Sun, starring a 13 year old Christian Bale
AppleTV+ been cooking man
How can anyone not just ♥ Saoirse!
Benjamin Clementine phenomenal singer, i'm excited to see him acting!
If saoirse does not win this year, I swear to god...
^ yeah this!
She probably wont, considering there are Emilia perez and Anora with great performances
@@znamir1493 oh yeah, and there's Amy Adams too in nightbitch and Jolie in Maria. But still still hoping for saoirse
@@clintonclydeI hearing that George (Elliot Hoffman's role) is more of a "main character" here and that Saoirse's role is more on the supporting. If it's true then I hope they actually campaign her for supporting cause the race isn't as packed as the lead one and she have some chance of winning. But who knows, it's on Apple
@@znamir1493Lee with Kate Winslet... I love both of them by the way!!
Now that's how you cut a trailer!
one of those movies where you root for the bad guys
When is this girl ever going to win an Oscar?
Been waiting for this since it was first reporting as being in production. I hope it truly captures what the Blitz experience was like. My grandmother told me stories of her experience during this time, and it was always difficult to imagine.
Give Saoirse Ronan an Oscars for this movie.❤❤❤
This looks astonishing. Steve McQueen is one of the most innovative directors working in British cinema and Hollywood, and this could be another hit. To add to that, 73 original movies outnumber 33 sequels and I.P. films this year so far, and Blitz will be among the original films to potentially compete at the Oscars.
This looks outstanding and the fact Paul Weller is in it only adds to my excitement
Saoirse is getting that Oscar this time. Go Girl!!!
This looks like it's going to shatter my heart.
Saoirse Ronan truly is the best actress of her generation.
Very debatable.
@@ktom5262 No it's not. Who is at her level?
She started since 2007 and look at her performances!

I’m surprised they didn’t get Lenny Henry to play the part of Winston bleeding Churchill.
Great to see the film has so many Hull locations.
Saoirse Ronan, Stephen Graham, Paul Weller, Holly Lineton, to name a few. Looks like an interesting watch to me. 👍
0:21 I knew that was Benjamin Clementine! Can't believe he's acting now!

how many trailer's are popping up this week??! well excited much

I hope this will get a theatrical release!
Does anyone know the music they played in the trailer? Or if it's a part of the score?
Widows is so underrated as well as Shame

It'll be interesting to see whether she pulls of an Al Pacino-like run this year. There's an awful lot of Ronan in the trailer for a "supporting role". Will her nomination be for Blitz or The Outrun?

All the canned responses saying "between this and outrun, finally gonna get that much deserved oscar!" Yeah, but not for the reason you think. More like look at both movies and what her "love interest" in both is... it's all so tiresome.
Please have a uk cinema release

Why saoirse ronan's son is black !? 😐
well, when a mummy and daddy love each other very much... ;]
So Saorise Ronan has a black son in 1940 London?! LOL
huh?
N.W.O.
When I heard they were doing a film set during the Blitz, I just knew they would shoe horn diversity quotas into it but I didn't expect it to be quite so in your face. Absolute revisionist nonsense and I urge everyone with even a passing interest in history to give this a huge body swerve. Total disgrace
Maybe someone should remake ‘Roots’, where the lead character Kunta Kinte, is played by a ginger haired Glaswegian transwoman. What’s good for the goose etc.
Blitz of diversity!
so sensitive. yall see one brown kid and blow your tops. hilarious.
@@TeaRex I wonder if the racists in this comment section have seen Bridgerton, one of the most popular tv series on the planet. They would decry it as "historically inaccurate." Or similarly, Schitt's Creek for that matter, in which a gay couple lives unbothered in a rural town.
@@Saigeee333 So far Ive observed that anytime a film with "diversity" doesn't do well they blame it on wokeness and everytime something with a diverse cast does well they just straight up ignore it.
They all complained about forced diversity when the miles morales spiderman comics showed up but then shut up after the first film. Such a disingenuous ideology.
@@Saigeee333 its extremely historically inaccurate yes
@@TeaRexyou can’t make a historical movie but change it to fit in with today’s obsession of putting coloured people in everything just because they’re coloured. 1941 London was extremely white and I know that probably hurts you to read but it’s the truth. Inserting 'diversity', amazing how tolerant people were back then
Was wondering the same thing.Saoirse is white but her kid is a little coffee.Just to be clear, this is not me being racist in any way but this seems a little out of place. Are we ticking boxes?
That's what's so great about today's cinema. Everyone finds their place regardless of the race.
@@spandel100
New "agreements" made in the entertainment industry insist that every production must have a certain required amount of ethnic representation.
Failing to meet those required targets means the production concerned will not be eligible for any awards.
Most media companies really like to win awards to help market their product.
Which is why we end up with the madness of a black woman portraying Anne Boleyn in a historical drama.
However, don't hold your breath, expecting to see Tarzan being played by the likes of Idris Elba anytime soon.
Or Matt Damon playing Nelson Mandela.
This policy only works in one direction.
