I used this method yesterday...took me but a few seconds to squeeze and turn off the cap. I was actually amazed at just how EASY it worked! I saw videos on drilling a hole in the cap and others on shoving things into the key slot.. BUT This wins hands down.. Provided that you own a Oil can wrench like this...Might be able to use a large crescent wrench too.
Lucky I had my 16" Channellocks. When I picked up my car from the transmission shop, it was almost out of gas and when I got to the gas station, the key no longer unlocked the gas cap. I went straight to the auto parts shop and got another gas cap, but still didn't know how I would remove the broken one. When I took it hope the 'empty' light went on. I went online and found this video. The new cap is now on and the old one still won't unlock. I figured that I'd have to rake it or pick it, but this is the best and easiest method. Maybe I can figure out what went wrong with it, it was from the 'STANT' company in Indiana. Thanks so very much. Now I have to see if I have enough fuel to get to the gas station. Subscribed. Thanks for the content. Keep up the good work. BS'D
@@diyracing3049 You are very welcome. I am waiting for the roadside assistance right now, to bring me a gallon of gas. STANT in Indiana has 'zero' customer support (manufactured the gas cap).
DUDE!! Thanks!!Bought an F150 recently& why did the dealer lock the tank with this locking cap?Might have been a simple mistake&thought I would have to drive the 50 miles back to the dealer...Thanks again!! :)
I just bought a locking hgas cap yesterday and I'm gonna return it bc I tried to lock it earlier and I could easily turn it by hand to get it to unscrew even though it's locked, all I did was apply plenty of pressure down on to the cap so the whole cap moves as one, those things are pieces of junk! unfortunately
I had this happen. Sometimes they have to break in for a few days, then they start working correctly. Inner workings can be stiff at first. You might not have to return it, although they aren't too secure. They are more of a psychological deterrent.
