There are only like 6 different gas cap keys in the world. They are the same key blanks and key cuts used for a ton of misc. stuff like old trailer locks. Save all your old keys in a shoebox and I guarantee you that you will find keys that work in all kinds of stuff. I’ve been a Professional Locksmith for over 30 years.
Thank you so much for this video , lost my keys due to car being stolen , sat the car for awhile and forgot I had no cap key cap that was also on the keychain lol , thanks a million !
That’s been parked as long as my 72 mark IV . Would be cool if you fixed it up mechanically and drive it around come summer 😀. I really need to do the same, start up all my cars . I’d like to find a 74 Plymouth Duster . I have the perfect parts car.. I need a rust free shell.
I'll do the filming while he does the screwing. I had to laugh when I heard you say that brother. ( I knew what you meant though ) 😄 you have a good day and thanks for the content 👍✌️
I appreciate the video. I just bought a Mitsubishi eclipse and I'm sitting on a quarter of a tank of gas and I tried to take the gas cap off because it's a locking gas cap and all it does is spin even when I have the key and I put in it. And my personal opinion this is a product that should have never been made and I think it's absolutely idiotic that these things are out there. The last thing a person needs is to try and twist a gas cap off in the damn thing just spins. You want to lock your gas put the lock on the cover that goes over your gas tank but honestly I don't see the need for any of that because it becomes an inconvenience later when you can't put gas into your vehicle because your gas cap is stuck and just spins around in circles. Totally stupid invention in my opinion. When I get this POS off my car I will be buying a regular gas cap to replace it and I protect my gas the old fashioned way. I catch you messing with my car you end up with holes in you. 🤷🏽 Anyway I'm literally just frustrated because this gas kept thing just happened to me 6 minutes ago and I just bought the damn car. Informative video though thank you
That doesn't do any good if the entire cap assembly is just spinning around in circles and doesn't grab anything. You do have to do it the way the man in this video did it You have to beat the cylinder out and remove the whole outer cap away from the inner cap in order to spin it off. Honestly I hate this whole locking gas cap thing. I've never had one until this new car I bought and immediately it's done this to me and I have to beat it off my damn car just to put fuel in it. Whoever come up with this invention which is probably a long time ago and they probably aren't alive anymore but they just still deserve to be slapped one time for every American that's ever been screwed over by this ignorant invention.😂

You are correct on everything except there are 10 different keys.
So what's are the chances if I go buy another gas cap with lock the key will fit the one on my car.?

Would that work if the key part is frozen solid?
Just use a channel lock counter clockwise and it'll pop right off.
