The original MV of this song is just James looking into the camera singing the song, and at the end you see his dad. At the time of this recording his Dad was dying of stage 4 kidney failure. After the video came out a distant cousin was tested and was a match, and a kidney transplant saved his Dad. James did a wonderful tribute to his father. The first time I saw the MV performance, I was a puddle of tears.
This video really hits home for me. My father passed from cancer in 2016. I've seen this video so many times and almost every time I cry. I cried this time mostly because of you.
I've heard the song hundreds of times and still cry every single time. Lost my old man to a brain tumour and the folded your clothes on the chair line hits hard.
It seems as though we’ve lived parallel lives, cuz I lost my dad to cancer/brain tumors, as well. I found this song a week before he passed, & the “Folding Your Clothes On The Chair” part hit so hard & I 💯 had done that when he was admitted to the hospital. (Where he passed 9 days later) I almost used this song for the slideshow we showed at his services, but ended up choosing, ‘Jealous Of The Angels’. I believe I still have it on my channel.
Steph. just bit of background...James and his father were both officers (tank commanders) in the British military, and emotions were very rarely shared between them, but when James' dad was diagnosed with Stage 4 kidney failure, he wrote this song. The music video you see was recorded exactly as you see it. James wanted it to be absolutely real, and authentic, and that's why he's so emotional. Thankfully his father found a donor eventually, and survived but when the song was written, everyone thought his dad was going to struggle to find a donor. All the proceeds from this record were donated by James to the UK's wonderful charity for ex-servicemen and servicewomen 'Help For Heroes' who do such amazing work. James is a wonderful man and I know his dad must be very proud of him.
The Official Video is much better. In it right at the end his Father pats James on then arm and it cuts there. The reason was because his Father look at him and said, 'I'm still alive Son'. That was Personal so was cut out.
It is a very true story . His dad donated a kidney and then later he went in kidney failure stage 4 and close to the end a family member seen this video came forward and he was a match and received a kidney.
Hi Steph, the video you are watching is an edit of a movie called Billie Elliot filmed in 2000 and is definitely NOT in anyway related to James Blunt's face to camera video of this song which is readily available. NOT the one to watch for a real experience which includes him sitting next to his real Dad in the video. Kia kaha Wahine xxx
You obviously totally misunderstood the wrong. James has a very strong relationship with his father and wanted to give him the perfect last message before it was too late.
Steph I wish i could give you a hug and a shoulder to cry on and wipe your tears rolling down your cheeks. And remember that your tears are always beautiful and precious. Luv Ya😢
I completely agree with you, was actually shocked that someone would do this......I am sure she has great intentions, but this song stands on it's own, no one needs to edit the video in any way.
The original video is Blunt singing into the camera, and the last shot of him and his dad. The clips mixed in are from the film Billy Elliot. It's a moving story, and obviously the clips can be edited to convey the emotion of Blunt's song. It was nicely done, actually. Hard to listen to Blunt sing this - and even harder to WATCH him sing it. The video - like all music videos - is pre-recorded and then lip synced. Well, not really lip synced. He's really singing it, it's just not the audio that's used. But even shooting the video, he clearly is very affected by what was happening to his Dad at the time, and the emotion comes through immediately. Good reaction.
Such a beautiful song with James and his raw emotions, have no clue who ruined this video by having additional footage that has nothing to do with what James is singing about....not a fan at all of changing what he created 😤
The line "I'm not your son you're not my father we're just 2 grown men saying goodbye" was what he dad said to him obviously in reverse, when he said goodbye to James when James went to the Kosovo war where he served as a tank commander. All proceeds to the song went to the veterans charity Help for Heroes.
As most children are, they are afraid of the sounds (of the night) ie: monsters as well as the ones we think are in our closets and under our beds. We have our Fathers to (chase) assure us that they are gone when they are chased away. As we grow to adulthood and it's our time to take care of our fathers the roles are reversed and it' our time to chase the monsters away, not really having anything to do with the type of relationship between the two. IT's love for each other and now as adults we are on the same plane as our parents.
Life to short you need people more than you need . People who stand with you mean more ,your friends your mum , what matters don't cry for what does not matter kiss kiss xx
😢Todo está y estará bien 😢💖🙏💖🕊️paz en el corazón y armonía en el alma, todo tiene solución y todo es posible,si uno se lo propone o desa, con toda tu Alma☝️👌🙏🕊️
I think this video takes away from the meaning of the song. Would have been better w/ official video w/ just James Blunt singing to his father. I don't know what that other stuff was, if it was scenes from a movie, but this song wasn't about their being estranged. They were both military & didn't express a lot of emotion, and I read the "...not...son...and...father...just 2 men saying goodbye," was something they said once when being deployed, acknowledging their respect for each other as service men facing war regardless of who was dad & who was son, so I imagine this was kind of his way of saying I'm man enough to face this with you as well, when he felt this last battle was nearing an end for his dad. So nothing in the past mattered now because nobody's perfect but he as a man was there to chase the monsters away for his dad like his dad had done for him as a child. They both thought his dad was dying because they couldn't find a match for a kidney transplant, but this song kind of saved his life because after the song came out, a distant cousin who was a match came forward and he got the kidney after all.
Hello neighbor not sure if u checked it out but there are 2 versions to this video this one is the official video to his song and the other one is more of an intimate version as they put parts of that video in this one where its just the camera on james blunt singing this song check out the other video if u have not yet to me its a more intimate intimate video where it is just him. HAGD TC Be Safe Be Good peace out POOF
Love to hear an emotional story, for me have a great father who's always there, had an amazing mother, she was great is in any way possible. She unfortunately made the decision to commit suicide. This song always make me think of her. Know this song is about fathers. But to me it's about familily and appreaciating close and loved ones
Essa música sempre me toca. Mas ver a dor dentro de você dói ainda mais. Eu queria chegar e confortá-lo como um pai faria com seu próprio filho. E eu não tenho filhos. Obrigada! This song always gets to me. But seeing the pain inside of you hurts even more. I wanted to reach out and comfort you as a parent would their own child. And I don't have children. Thank you!
This was actually a mixture of James Blunt's video and I presume some movie. I'd never seen this version before. The only one I saw was James Blunt singing into the camera and then sitting next to his father. 6/1/23
Subtitles aside that was a completely different video someone has made. Such a shame they thought they could 'improve' on the original, because they completely ruined it. Such a shame for you to see that version first time you heard the song.
Strange video version, why the hell was it interspersed with footage from the film "Billy Elliott" absolutely wrong and added nothing but spoilt the true meaning.
Great reaction to a great song. But to be honest I've never heard of this song from the original James Blunt version. I actually know this song because Cakra Khan covered it.
If you cry like that again I'll tickle you and tell fart jokes! LOL Just kidding. :) I didn't have a great relationship with my father either, so I can relate. -big hugs-
She put in a video that had Portuguese translations and she did that because she said she would be able to to better understand it and u guess thats what that version had a video of along w James Blunts. She did mention that in the beginning of the video 🤦♂️
Hello ,écoute la chanson de lara fabian meu grande amor qu'elle chante en portugais et aussi ecoute l'oublie en français mes trouve des sous titre parce que ma chanson est très forte emotionnellement

I cry every time
@@christinelee314 I never knew this, thank you.
Great reaction Steph! It showed what a beautiful caring heart you have!

Bless your heart hun, beautiful reaction to a beautiful song
Such a powerful and emotional song. Sending hugs from the UK 🇬🇧
James Blunt said the entire film crew was breaking down and crying while filming this video.
Steph. just bit of background...James and his father were both officers (tank commanders) in the British military, and emotions were very rarely shared between them, but when James' dad was diagnosed with Stage 4 kidney failure, he wrote this song. His father was a chopper pilot
The Official Video is much better. In it right at the end his Father pats James on then arm and it cuts there. The reason was because his Father look at him and said, 'I'm still alive Son'. That was Personal so was cut out.
This is a disaster, totally ruined the beautiful emotion from James!

Your reaction was amazing and brought me to tear too.
your reaction was truly genuine
I cried too but because my heart bled when I saw you cry beautiful angel😭😭
I love this reaction
I’ve never seen this video. Love it!
she has a good soul & heart
You need to watch the regular video of James Blunt. Your English is good enough. It's not a complicated English song.
The little boy in the video is from The Musical Billy Elliot.
My dad left my mom when I was 10. I'm 60 now and I've seen him like 5 or 6 times since then
We’re all crying don’t worry life gets better
The wee boy in the video is Billy elliot, but just a character name, it's Tom Holland... the new spiderman. 2021.
Nope, Tom Holland played Billy Elliot on stage, not in the movie. The actor in the movie, and this video, is Jamie Bell.
you need to watch the original video its just james looking at the camera with his dad sat at the side of him
Yeah this ruined everything James did to create such a powerful song about his Father.......
Thank you for sharing your feelings.
Watch the vid that just shows James without the other footage
It is a very true story . His dad donated a kidney and then later he went in kidney failure stage 4 and close to the end a family member seen this video came forward and he was a match and received a kidney.

To me this is just awful to change what he created from the heart to his Father....who would do that?
The original one with just him and his dad hit harder to me. The song is about his dad and what was happening
I change the words to 'you're not my mum, I'm not your daughter, we're just two grown women saying goodbye'.
Part of this video is from the movie "Billy Elliott"
Best reaction ever!!!
Thank you for your honesty 🙁 this song gets me 😢👍🇬🇧😀
You obviously totally misunderstood the wrong. James has a very strong relationship with his father and wanted to give him the perfect last message before it was too late.
I've never seen this version. All versions have destroyed me emotionally.
Well done❤
Really nice reaction
Steph I wish i could give you a hug and a shoulder to cry on and wipe your tears rolling down your cheeks. And remember that your tears are always beautiful and precious. Luv Ya😢
I have heard this song many times, i am crying every time, if you don't cry you don't have a heart ♥
You should watch the official video to the song. Whoever thought this video was a good idea was plain wrong. Beautiful reaction though :)
I completely agree with you, was actually shocked that someone would do this......I am sure she has great intentions, but this song stands on it's own, no one needs to edit the video in any way.
the vid is the billy elliot film, never seen it to the sound of monsters?
Wow Thank You!
Everybody reacts this way. It demonstrates just how much we all really are alike and we should carry that thought with us every day.
The clip at the beginning was from a movie, can’t remember the name, but it has nothing to do with James Blunt or this song. Lol
First time watching you. Beautiful reaction. Such a heartbreaking experience. That´s the purpose and power of music. To reach us on so many levels.
I cried like a baby the first time I saw this. Most people I have watched do.
Lovely lady don't cry it's a beautiful song be happy ❤️
This is a very powerful song
I,m crying to is so very emotional 😭 😢
What movie is that?
what is the name of that movie on this video?
Billy Elliot movie
Steph your room looks really beautiful. Greetings from Australia and take care.
Esse foi o melhor reaction que assisti na minha vida ❤️

Only one take for him to do this video, he sad he could not do it again because of the emotions.

Oh Steph, you really wear your heart on your sleeve don't you. Awesome reaction. You're the best...
Bella reazione sincera e si è il suo vero Padre
Movie is Billy Elliot

😭😭😭😭
It's a killer, the original version is the best
hi Steph, for the next reaction i propose Vanny Vabiola, especially her new cover on Adele's easy on me, it's fantastic! thanks! 🙏
the video is a movie called billie Eliot . amazing movie
its about a boy that wants to learn ballet
Pobre, pero me paso igual llore mucho con esta cancion del gran James Blunt, mira el video original, saludos desde perù.

Please react to Sebastián yatra. No hay nadie más
You watched the wrong video. D'oh!

First time on your channel, 8 seconds in an lemme just say that intro beat is so fire.
Eu chorei também, a música passa uma tristeza profunda ainda mais na voz do ótimo cantor, james blunt! ♥️⚘🇧🇷
A beautiful reaction, thank you
I’ll die on the hill that James Blunt is the most underrated musician of the past 20 years
Love to hear an emotional story, for me have a great father who's always there, had an amazing mother, she was great is in any way possible. She

Another emotional song is "My Mind" by Yebba (Abbey Smith) at So Far.
Reaction Reza Darmawangsa X Indah aqila SING OFF "SALAH APA AKU".

It sounds like it's your father's loss. You seem like a good person.
I cried too but I never seen video
If you cry like that again I'll tickle you and tell fart jokes! LOL Just kidding. :) I didn't have a great relationship with my father either, so I can relate. -big hugs-
Don't quite understand why you played Billy Elliot over James Blunt's song.
She put in a video that had Portuguese translations and she did that because she said she would be able to to better understand it and u guess thats what that version had a video of along w James Blunts. She did mention that in the beginning of the video 🤦♂️
Is a beautiful nice sad song but don't give it i feel how you feel you're a beautiful nice lady
Billy!
Sorry, stopped after 50 sec, when I saw it wasn't the video I hoped for, always the original for me
😭😭😭😭😭😭
