Thanks for your true and honest reaction to the video!! James' dad was a kidney donor himself, then he got kidney disease and he didn't have an extra kidney to work from and it escalated to Stage 4 Chronic kidney disease (the worst). The only thing he was left with was to get a kidney transplant but they could not find one, so he was basically not far from passing. Supposedly he did this video in one take (with his real father). After the video was released, a distant relative stepped forward and was a match for his father. James has graciously donated all the profits from this video to support the British Legion Charities. A very deep and emotional song!
As a dad you chased the monsters away when the child goes to sleep at night. Then time passes and the son becomes the father and then has to chase the monsters away. Basically, we don't have the time to waste and we must resolve our conflicts with our parents, children and friends.
Bear in mind, while it may feel a bit embarrassing to give yourself over to a song and feel its emotion and show it, for the viewer its totally different. It humanizes you and makes us feel a connection with you. Its why we watch reactions; we're mainly (if not all) empaths who simply want to feel that connection and experience your emotion vicariously in this increasingly cold, grey world. Don't emotionally barricade yourself in the reaction space. It defeats the whole purpose of doing it. You're beautiful btw.
Thank you so much for this! I really appreciate your kind words. I shared my genuine feelings while watching, though I didn’t have any extreme emotions come through because I was viewing it from a slightly different perspective, as I can’t fully relate to the father-to-son experience. But I’m so grateful that my reaction still resonated with you and others. I’ll definitely keep your words in mind for future reactions. Thanks again for your support!
Yes, that is his father. And at the time of this video, they didn’t think he had long to live. However, as a result of the press received by the video, a distant relative came forward and turned out to be a donor match and they were able to save his life. Others may be able to confirm and add details.
I’ve seen so many reaction videos to this beautiful song which means so much to me as my dad past away in 2017 and it just hits me every time I hear it but nearly all Men that do the reaction videos end up crying where the ladies don’t. Anyone else see this? Absolutely love this song and video ❤
Ever wonder what you would tell a younger version of yourself? This video is what I would play for myself in 2010 before my dad died. He had been so violent while we were growing up. I was terrified to come home from school(in the 60's-70's) and was verbally abusive until he took ill in 2011. Thing is the emotional distance that I created to survive when I was young I continued until after he passed. While a good coping mechanism as a child, it was highly dysfunctional as an adult. Never occurred to me that "I knew his mistakes and he knew mine" was an incredible equalizer. This song has been real therapy for me. Thank you for reviewing it, and for sharing your feelings.
Sorry you had to go through that! It's such a blessing to have a family with children, I bet your dad went through similar abuse, and never learned to do differently. If only we could go back in time, with healed and wiser selves, and a father who could love his children and appreciate them every day.
@@stoneoutdooradventures2286 mmhmm, definitely makes the anniversaries worse since all the lead up time to the day is filled with loads of reminders from the world.
That's his dad, i'm.72 we all know. We have to go through it but we never think about it until the time comes. It's been a little over 20 years since my mother passed. It's strange how the rolls reverse and we become the pareit. Its our turn to chase the boogie man away. It was one of the hardest things. I had to do you have to treat your parent like like your child. But that's the way it goes towards the end.
It is James’ dad, Charles, and they’re both ex-Army officers; the lines “I’m not your son, you’re not my father, we’re just two grown men saying goodbye” was the way they used to part when either was posted away.
"We're just two grown men saying goodbye" are supposed to be the parting words his father, a senior army officer, said to his son - a Captain in the Household Cavalry - when he was deployed to active service in Kosovo in 1999. A very British, understated emotionally hidden, parting. This was how James responded to his fathers very bleak diagnosis - which thankfully had a happy ending.
James Blunt has another one from a personal experience called “The Girl That Never Was” and also one that was inspired by a personal experience called “Carry You Home”. Both of the Official Music Videos tell the story of the song well and are extremely well done. The songs are also Really beautiful and Very Relatable to so many people all over the world! ❤
Out of the last 15 vids, atfer the Daddy line it only takes about 5-20 secs for the line to hit. chin draws up showing stress tension in the throat muscles. Eyes and mouth dont always show first. we know a waterfall is comming
How have I never seen your channel? Your reaction to this was truly beautiful and your countenance is so peaceful. Please react to Chester See’s original song/video called Even Though I’m Gone.
React to “hold onto memories” by Disturbed, it’s another emotional song by a heavy band I want to say how good your reactions are, just listening to the whole them giving your comments after, I think when someone who keeps pausing the videos never get the whole story
James Blunt Shares his life experiences often with emotional songs...Check out some other like "The Girl that Never was ","Carry you home" ...th e official vids...best regards

This is so amazing
"Loosing family is a special kind of pain"
My 8 year old son said it this way when my dad died.
"It is like my heart got a scratch" ❤
Brilliant and pure.

I have heard this song many times and crying every time, if you don't cry you don't have a heart ♥ 😢

Lost my mother four days before Xmas in 2020 and this song gets me everytime..
I am so very sorry for your loss, especially at such a time - I know the feeling since I lost my father 4 days before Father’s Day.

@@MLaak86 it does indeed and when you're having a bad day you miss that person ten times as much.
@@stoneoutdooradventures2286 Which makes the grieving process harder in turn. So glad I found this song and the many many reaction videos.
Usually, the next one to listen from James is "The girl that never was", but it's a tought one too 😭
James sister actually wrote the first draft of this as a poem. He rewrote it and added music.

No it wasn't. It's internet bullshit.

They were both officers in the British Army. Stiff upper lip and all that 😊 Liked and commented. And just subscribed.

If I was to be passing away I would want someone like you to be by my bedside, calm and caring .
He has an even sadder song, The Girl That Never Was, that you might want to react to. But do not do so when you or anyone close to you is pregnant.

You are the first person who didn't show a reaction to the song....well except when you smiled asking if that was his dad....amazing!
TRY THIS GREAT SONG BY A NOW RETIRED GREAT- Randy Travis - The Box (Official Music Video)
:( didn't play it to the end. I think you are only the 3rd person of all the people I've seen react to this video that didn't cry..
