In the meantime I love how in the last second his dad pats James Blunt's arm. Even when he was in severe danger of dying, he was the one that comforted his son, that chased the monsters away when the whole crew of the video take was crying helplessly.
Im 70 years old, I lost my dad over 39 years ago, and there was unfinished business between us that I wish I'd been able to set right before He passed. I believe I'll see him again, and then the past won't matter, but man what I'd give for just one hour with him today. Thanks James for such a beautiful song that helps me heal each time I listen
it's his dad's thumb gently stroking James's arm that gets me... that and the little pat he gives him right at the very end of the video. Even then, he was still being the Dad. 💔
@@oopsdidItypethatoutloud And something that makes the anecdote he looked around at all the moist eyes in the room and went "I'm not dead yet, stop crying" all the more believable.

To add to one of the comments below, his sister wrote the words based on what James and his Father used to say when they deployed (both British Army). It wasn't until listening to this song that i realised that when i deployed (ex RN ) i never said goodbye to my wife. It was always 'see you soon', 'see you on...' , never goodbye. I do the same when my two boys deploy and i never realised till i listened to this song. As for James' father, he is still with us as the song prompted a distant cousin to donate a kidney. A great reaction well done for pausing only once.
Both of my parents are gone now, and the first time hearing this song tore me apart. If you need a palette cleanser, "Conga" from The Miami Sound Machine will get you moving.
This song is a good therapy session... One of the stories is that his Sister wrote this as a tribute to their Dad for what they thought was terminal condition, then ask James to put it into a song. His Dad had not heard the song when they filmed this, and it is said that when they finished he asked "why are you all crying? I'm not gone yet.".
What a lovely reaction. It's one which we all share every time we watch the video, I'm sure. I heard that as James and his father were former British military men, James donated all the proceeds from this video to the UK charity 'Help For Heroes' who do so much fantastic work for ex-servicemen and women, and God bless him for that. ❤❤
His song video was done in 1 take. Blunt and crew were broken after this. "Im not your father and your not my son we are just two grown men sying goodby is what Blunts father said before he went off to war. Both men served in the army.
Wonderful reaction. We are many out there who reacted in a similar way...First time i heard this song was only a few months after my fathers passing. It was super hard to watch then...it`s better now....This time i cried because you cried...Thank you.❤
James Blunt was a Captain in the Household Cavalry, his father a senior officer. When James was deployed to active service in Kosovo, his fathers parting words, understand and emotions well hidden very British were "We're just two grown men saying goodbye". Already a kidney donor, his father was diagnosed with stage 4 chronic kidney disease and no suitable donor could be found - the outlook was bleak. This was shot in a single, raw take and it reduced everybody in the room to tears. Except his father. "Whats everybody crying for? I'm not dead yet" was his reported response. This song found a donor, and thankfully a happy ending.
James’ father Charles Blount was a cavalry officer in the 13th/18th Royal Hussars and then a helicopter pilot, becoming Colonel of the Army Air Corps. Btw, James took his pilot license at age 16. 😄
This is really a tough one 😢😢 His father had stage 4 kidney disease. But because of this video, a distant relative came forward and was a perfect match. His father is still alive today
This song hits me different. My father was never around. He’s in his 80’s now and is ill. He wants to reconnect with me. I don’t know if it’s because he has true remorse or he’s just scared of dying. I don’t know what I’ll do. What I do know is that when he does pass, it’s not going to effect me the way James is effected by the thought of his father dying. I don’t know if I’m lucky that I won’t have to deal with that pain when he’s gone or if it’s unfortunate that I never had that father/son bond that so many of my friends have.
That's tough. I feel for you. You do what you feel is right. If you need answers ask the questions. If you need to express anger, don't feel bad. You don't owe him anything but he may be the only person who can answer some things. You may feel better if you get some stuff off your chest. Or dance on his grave if that's what you need. Either way do your best to get what you need and stay strong. I wish you luck my friend.
@@mvf80 do what you need to do, you don’t owe him anything more than a consideration. If you think that it would help you, or that you might regret not saying hello/goodbye then maybe go and see him, but be aware it may not go the way you might think. Good luck either way!

It's interesting how you read his expression as angry, when he was about to cry from sadness. I wonder if that was just from James holding himself together, or if people just expect the main emotion men to show being anger.
It's not normal anger I was talking about. It's the anger you feel in grief. That anger that someone you love so much can be taken from you and the injustice of it all. Anger and sadness I feel are very closely connected in grief.

James wrote this song about his dad in 2020 was diagnosed with stage 4 kidney failure. Luckily he received a transplant from a cousin and is health today.
Fkn annoyed me, decent reaction etc, my dad died in my arms thinking was his older brother I was named after...asked me about God etc....could write entire book just on our story alone but yeah...idk. Have ashes tatted in my arm.... always connected regardless, at least on this earth, doubt I'll see heaven, had to tell him he most likely won't, fkn horrible....n "monsters" or "darkness" guessing most have no clue
I have known a monster or two. I'm sad to hear that you have known monsters too.
You are still keyword spamming the search algorythm.
Can you please explain how? I don't even know how to do that.

My dad died in my arms...
Though it was haunting to see what i saw that day...I was glad to talk to him as he was leaving.
A day that has stayed with me since then. Rest in Peace Daddy.
