this song is the reason his father is alive. The person who donated the kidney that saved his fathers life came forward to be tested after he heard the song saying goodbye. This og version is honest, and painful to watch the genuine emotion as he farewells his father.
The man who came forward to donate a kidney to James father, turned out to not only be a distant cousin but also have the exact same name as James father, Charles Blount. Blount being James real surname, changed to Blunt for professional use.
@@SomeGuyFromOKYeah. That actually happened. The song got a lot of exposure in the UK media, for obvious reasons. Which lead to the relative finding out about this and getting tested for possible kidney donation.
My friend and I are both veterans, James was my friends Troop Commander. When my friend wanted to go home for the weekend but was broke, James gave him £100 to get home and refused to take it back on pay day!
Wow that is one memory that you and your friend will never forget. Such a gentleman. His Dad was also in the British Army. As was my own Dad. His entire life.
James is a famous artist from the UK. His father was a stiff upper-lipped Army Colonel and James was a Captain. This song was written when his dad was having kidney failure. Ironically, his dad had already donated a kidney to someone else and only had one kidney. He developed kidney disease in only his remaining kidney and James wanted to say goodbye to his dad. A distant cousin heard this tune and came forward and the cousin came forward and was tested as a match and donated a kidney and as you said his dad was given the kidney and survived. James said in an interview that he wanted to say goodbye to his dad publicly so that he would always be remembered. That is actually his dad in the video
This was done in one take. No 'AutoTune'. James wanted this highly emotional video to be 100% real and genuine. James dad was actually dying from kidney disease & this was his tribute & farewell to his dad. Thankfully his dad received a donor & is doing okay now.
@@MansonOTIA09, the donor was a distant cousin living in Australia who heard the song and decided to donate a kidney if he were an acceptable match and he was. Yes, James Blunt’s father and the cousin are both named Charles Blount.

I don’t care if you’re 15 feet tall weighing 500 pounds, or if you’ve never felt emotion before a day in your life….. this is the song that will do it to you. It’s highly emotional, very relatable, and damn near impossible not to strike you in the heart. Cried for so long after we finished recording, have seen even our own multiple times (editing, then making sure it all was good after uploading) and cried every time then. And that’s on James’ original, and on the Cakra cover. It’s just a very intense song, and James and his dad should both be so proud. Also, absolutely nothing wrong with having these emotions as a man ♥️♥️

The reason I believe James sings it better than anyone else is because he wrote it for his father. He wasn’t just singing it as a cover or as someone singing it to their dad. He wrote it for his dad and the language was lingo Jim and his dad used with each other. So it had meaning and James sang it with power and meaning.

no worries about the high energy. That's part of the fun of watching reactions to this song; watching people waltz into it so unsuspecting and then watching their whole demeanor change when they lock eyes with James' soul crushing gaze in the first few seconds.

Finally! U guys found him. 😊 James’ “You’re Beautiful” is a huge number, it was released yearsss agoo but still echo ing in my Country up until today. James is a British! ❤
Personally I prefer this version, it is more simple and mellow, so you can really feel the emotions, Cakra version too over-the-top, and he doing too much vocally. Less is more with slow/sad songs.
@@nouraematt2582 nah not because of the raspy voice, he is on level 100 with every note, you can't do that to songs, especially slow songs, you need to build it up. I am Cakra fan but as a listener it can be draining and annoying if a singer is on level 100 all the time. Tbh Cakra voice tone is better than James Blunt, but James Blunt is the better artist/vocalist, he controls the emotions and voice much better than Cakra, Cakra is all over the place and messy in his delivery.
I think both are good in their own way.. Cakra even he is on level 100 in every note.. but in a good way.. I don't know.. actually I really enjoy it, I can still feel good dynamics.. even I can repeat it over and over again.
I think James Blunt’s version being better doesn’t have much to do with better technique or voice. It is the emotion behind those lyrics and the fact that this was written by him as a tribute to his father who was terminally ill at that time. That kind of vocals, the somber visage and emotions can’t be faked. The viewer sees that and empathizes and sometimes projects their own emotions to every verse and line of the song. IMHO, this is what makes this so powerful.
Yeah it is tough to time these things appropriately but it's for copyright. We've never had a James blunt video on the channel so you never know who the digital rights owners are so you pause in order to disrupt the content ID hash so it doesn't match exactly to the original song. Most reactors have to do it because it negatively impacts their channels. This has nothing to do with monetization either, more in regards of getting a copyright strike or a blocked worldwide video.
You paused it too soon! His dad pats James' arm right at the end there. Such a touching moment. James Blunt is a master storyteller but sings from his real-world experiences, the stuff isn't made up. Check out his song "No Bravery", where he wrote about what he saw during his time serving in the Kosovo War in the late 90s while serving the British Army under NATO. The dude is a legit war hero. Also check out "Carry You Home", bloody moving stuff. For something a bit happier, check out "Bonfire Heart".
james blunt is phenomenal not only the song, the ldeep lyric but also he should get an oscar for best outstanding male singer in a video...and best crying sceen too..... i am from indonesia btw... i love cakra but james blunt get the whole packet..... the best
The original is really really good. The angle of the video clip shows clearly James emotion, which really hit the hearts of the viewers. It really helps to delivering James's feeling that shows clearly in his eyes. His emotions really delivers right to our hearts, as it was his own experience of his Dad's NDE, it must have really deep impact to his heart. But thank God, Feel relieved to know that his Dad is ok now.. And you two are my favourite couple for RUclips video reaction!! Bless you and thank you for your reaction. I don't want to compare it to our beloved Cakra's version, coz every artist has their own characteristic and uniqueness. Stay healthy to you both, especially queen Taylor and our little baby there. Love from 🇮🇩❤️🤍
Absolutely agree with you about everything you said! James’ eyes reaaallly put a lot of the emotion into this one and just gets straight to your heart, making you feel it. I also think it’s absolutely fair to not compare the two, both are uniquely their own and different in a lot of ways. Thanks for watching, and thank you for the continued support ♥️♥️
I was almost going to have a dig at you at the beginning!! "What accent is this" But you both showed that no matter where we are from, we ALL have the same emotional connection! Thank you both xx
Yeah a lot of people took that negatively but we were genuinely curious. We appreciate music from all over and honestly most artists we cover are not from America.

I had to read your comment like 3 or 4 times.....it sounds like you're saying Cakra Khan was the original singer of this song,LOL.....but I get it now.Yeah, both are great!
I really really love Cakra cover, I actually like his version more than James' original ... BUT I always believe that a covering song can't stand higher than the original ... I mean, original is still original - something pure and not copied - so we have to respect for the sake of originality 😁🙏 both James Blunt's and Cakra's are beautiful in their own way, love them both ❤️❤️❤️
yess Cakra Khan can do the song nicely but for me the original (James Blunt) still the best cause the deep emotion still linger even though i heard so many times before thank's guys for hearing and post your reactions
This kills me every time because I know this is coming real soon and I haven't had this conversation with him yet and I don't know how to or even if we can.
My dad passed a couple of years before this song came out. Ive often thought i couldnt have said these things to him but i could have sat him down in front of my PC and played this song/video for him. I think i would have done if it had been released a couple of years earlier. Perhaps you might consider foing that when you think the time is right, but maybe dont leave it too long. I so wish i could have done it.
The SECOND pat on the arm which was cut from the clip shown here. Many reactors stop the video too soon and miss that extremely emotional bit. I blame all the pop-up screens; they’re distracting, prematurely signal the end, and like here, cause viewers to miss something meaningful.
@@helenleeyogini2679 Yes that gets me every time, they were both in the British army and didn't show much emotion toward one another, It's a man thing. But it's things like kidney disease and cancer that make you realise how much you love your family and can't imagine living without them.
James Blunt was an officer in the British Infantry and was in combat in Bosnia...There's a video on the tube here where he goes back 20 years after the war and gives the people a free concert
I just went through this with a close friend loosing her father. This song just touches all the deepest cords that make you think about spending as much time you can with your parents while they are still with us. I simply could not imagine what I will do when I loose my parents. He is just an amazing artist.
Check out info about James, he’s an absolutely amazing guy, I love his work. This video was shot only once, all the emotion and tears were real. There are so many amazing songs from James, he’s so talented, he writes his own songs, plays the instruments, he sounds exactly the same when live too, no auto tune or anything x
no matter how many times i watch this it makes me cry everytime yes anyone who has a conscience who watches it will find it really sad but i think it hiits harder for those guys who grew up with a father figure who have passed away or is dying for me my dad is still alive but is suffering from dementia and 2 years ago when i went to say goodnye to my mom for the last time my dad was there but had no idea who i was anymore and now has no idea who anyone from his past is anymore so now im not his son and he isnt my father anymore totally heartbreaking
I agree the voice is unique rather than wierd , he is british and that is part of it but he has a tone which cuts right to the heart of the matter. His dad was so brave to do this. the message to me is to say things while you can and sort things out if they can be resolved because most of us don't know how long we have got. James Blunt writes intelligent poetic lyrics no matter what the subject of the song is. This song is not a one off- you can dive into his love songs and it expresses what we have all felt in our hearts but for powerful impact try Carry you home and no bravery. His experience as a soldier along with his skill as a composer and performer gives him analmost uiniquely valid perspective. Buckle up and get the tissues ( that would be kleenex to you ) .
It's a sad song ...between father and son ,both work in the British Military,Charles ,the father had a chronic Kidney disease, who made a donor ,now he need a kidney donor himself while he was very ill..It's a miracle that a match donor came.. and now his dad still alive... Thanks ❤🤞
Reiterating what others have said James’s father was terminally ill at the time of recording/releasing this song and video. Miraculously a long distance family member saw the video and was a successful donor match for his dad. Both James and his father were high ranking officers in the British Army (he is English), he’s patron of ‘help for heroes’ profits from this song went straight into the charity. He’s classed as an old school ‘posh’ upper class man, speaking the Queens English. Close friends with members of the royal household etc. Side notes Ed Sheeran and the late Carrie Fisher are godparents to his sons.

Both James and his father are tough British military men, after the video was filmed james and the crew were all in floods of tears and his father had to try to lighten the mood
His father was very stoic in the video. I told Taylor, "that man is tough and hardened for him to be so composed even though his son is pouring his heart out next to him." It was actually incredible to see because I think it speaks to the father's generation.
That’s the song of the century. By God he had to dig deep down in his soul to come up with those wonderful lyrics. It’s so sad about his dad dying. I cry every time I hear it. But now I think everybody in the world has heard that wonderful song.
Only just picked up on this song today and it has made me realise that I will have to say goodbye to my dad who has terminal lung cancer. You're reaction mirrored my own as you listened. Thank you for the bare bones reaction.
Well done guys...from taking yourself RIGHT out of the experience within seconds of starting the song. No-one puts baby in the corner...and no-one pauses James Blunt's Monsters!
I think others will have told you about the background to this video. When it was over James and the crew were ALL in tears. Dad said, “Why are you all crying? I’m still here!”
The video was released on January 7, 2020. A Facebook friend posted it on her page on January 14, and I immediately fell in love with it - in fact, I looked up the chords and managed to sing it at an open mic in the first week of February, 2020.
@@Killermcknight It was okay. I've figured out how to play and sing the song a bit better since then, but of course, the pandemic has almost eliminated open mics.
The thing you have to know about James Blunt is he is a British (very very English) former soldier who has undertake several tours of duty in parts of the world where we should never have even been. He has seen horror, he’s supposed to be a hard man but when he filmed this video with his father he became the softest pussycat on the planet. He knew he was only going to be able to film this video in one take, no matter how much he ended up crying he to,d his production team to keep filming because he’d never attempt a re-do. His dad was dying but is thankfully still here purely because this song became a bit of an anthem to encourage people to donate organs and someone heard that message and donated what James’s dad needed. At the beginning of the video I felt you were mocking his voice and we’re approaching the video incredibly lightly, by the end of the video I see you realised you approached it wrongly so thank you for the humility. James is one of the most talented singer songwriters there are, as you noticed, his voice is unique but that’s because he has a range most female singers wish they could reach but the torture he was going through almost made his vocal instrument sound like he was screaming but he was in despair and truly believed that any minute he could be grieving. 😢
This is very beautiful song. This day oddly is pretty rare to find a song with very strong lyric, people seems forget how powerful and beautiful words can be.

Yes I agree maybe cakra's voice more raspy that why it sound over the top but yes James's voice is unique and smooth.
@@nouraematt2582 and he is really put all his emôtin to this song, it inspired me so much
I think James Blunt’s version being better doesn’t have much to do with better technique or voice.
6:48 "... I'm ready for you to stop hitting pause". Same here! You shouldn't be pausing a video like this when doing a reaction video.
James was a captain in a recon cavalry platoon in Bosnia, his dad was a colonel I think.
His dad was very ill from a failing kidney at the time.
For something a bit happier, check out "Bonfire Heart".
james blunt is phenomenal not only the song, the ldeep lyric but also he should get an oscar for best outstanding male singer in a video...and best crying sceen too..... i am from indonesia btw... i love cakra but james blunt get the whole packet..... the best
James Blunt is a legend. I had the privilege of seeing him do Monsters live a couple of years ago.
I can’t even imagine how it was live!
James Blunt is English, he was an officer in the British army, a Guards regiment.
His dad was a Colonel.
When a young man that has served his country and writes a song for his dying father. Whom are both U.K. high ranking Military. ❤
Gee guys, you both are amazing people that make every reaction intersting. And the talk is also informatif. Proud to be one of your subscriber
One of my favourite song of James Blunt songs. Another one is Good Bye my love.
Beautiful reaction 🌹
*"Good Bye My Lover"
@@Killermcknight🙏🏻❤️🤍🕊️
I was almost going to have a dig at you at the beginning!! "What accent is this" But you both showed that no matter where we are from, we ALL have the same emotional connection! Thank you both xx
Yeah a lot of people took that negatively but we were genuinely curious. We appreciate music from all over and honestly most artists we cover are not from America.
beautiful, can't believe this song makes me cry so much everytime still. loved your reaction, thanks. i wanted to sub but noticed I'm already subbed! lol, thanks me for doing that and forgetting so I'd get recommended the channel again! :) 'night
They both have their own charasteristic. Cakra Khan and the original singer of Monster, james Blunt are distinctive but equally great! Bravo!!!
Completely agree!!
I had to read your comment like 3 or 4 times.....it sounds like you're saying Cakra Khan was the original singer of this song,LOL.....but I get it now.Yeah, both are great!
I really really love Cakra cover, I actually like his version more than James' original ... BUT
I always believe that a covering song can't stand higher than the original ... I mean, original is still original - something pure and not copied - so we have to respect for the sake of originality 😁🙏
both James Blunt's and Cakra's are beautiful in their own way, love them both ❤️❤️❤️
Well said
Ojo dibandingke. Bahkan narasi perbandingan berdasarkan preferensi adalah tidak perlu
Completely agree with you, and absolutely love the way you said it. ♥️
Here comes over proud indonesian
@@xnxx-vm5hu 🙄🙄🙄 troll
This song is so touch for every one. Believe it..thank you bro for reacting this song..thank you
It was our pleasure!
yess Cakra Khan can do the song nicely but for me the original (James Blunt) still the best cause the deep emotion still linger even though i heard so many times before thank's guys for hearing and post your reactions
You're most certainly welcome, Thank you for watching!
james blunt was a officer in the british army
Its so power full...amazing...
Yes indeed!
He is English and was a captain in the army
This kills me every time because I know this is coming real soon and I haven't had this conversation with him yet and I don't know how to or even if we can.
So very sorry you’re going through this. We’re thinking of you 🙏🏻♥️
My dad passed a couple of years before this song came out.
The bit at the very end where James's dad pats him on the arm gets me every time.
I can't believe anyone has been crass enough to COVER this song!
It absolutely does! I had to call my mom after we were done with this. I cannot imagine either! So sorry for your friends loss 😞🙏🏻
Blunt has a remarkable sense of humanity in his lyrics and a great voice.
Found the Video. 'My turn to chase the monsters away' just gets me, one of the best lines ever written, so simple yet so meaningful
When your Dad passes and don't forget your Mum it's so painful as if when your in pain trouble or ill they were ALWAYS THERE.
i love you guys reaction as always keep it up
Thank you so much!
He is from England. Former British Army Captain and his dad was a Colonel in the British Army. He left the Army to follow his musical career ambition.
I'm sorry man, that really sucks.
Wow, totally phenomenal!!🌻🌻thanks guys.
I first heard this song on American idol. Just a few weeks after I lost my mom and had 25 other funerals in a 4 month span.
It's a sad song ...between father and son ,both work in the British Military,Charles ,the father had a chronic Kidney disease, who made a donor ,now he need a kidney donor himself while he was very ill..It's a miracle that a match donor came.. and now his dad still alive... Thanks ❤🤞
❤
I watch your channel sooooo much and when the young lady crys I ball my eyes out
Reiterating what others have said James’s father was terminally ill at the time of recording/releasing this song and video.
James Blunt. Ex officer in the British Army and now a brilliant singer/song writer.
It's his song writing be his sister, English. DAHHHHHH😊
Hey from Australia, it's my first time watching your channel and I'm now subscribed, that was a great, heart felt and honest reaction.
To help you guys cheer up a bit, I would like to introduce you to a Aussie legend John Farnham, I would suggest listening to John Farnham and the Melbourne symphony orchestra songs of,
- your the voice
- ACDC cover, it's a long way to the top
- playing to win
- the Beatles cover, help
There are many many more down the Farnham rabbit hole but these are good ones to start off with, I hope you enjoy 😊
❤️🇦🇺
I love James Blunt's voice. I love different things.
I love covers, yet I fear you might have missed why the original was so, so important? I see other comments, so you know now.
God bless James Blunt (his amazing talent) and his Dad. ❤
@@Killermcknight couldnt agree more james has a fantastic sense of humour and doesnt take himself seriously and a great family man
James Blunt sings his heart out gives his all, and absolutely beautiful delivery
The last second of the video his dad pats him on the arm. As if to say "it's ok"
That’s the song of the century. By God he had to dig deep down in his soul to come up with those wonderful lyrics. It’s so sad about his dad dying. I cry every time I hear it. But now I think everybody in the world has heard that wonderful song.
His dad has terminal cancer but lived because of this song. A cousin heard it and donated a kidney.
James blunt is English he served British Army, he served under NATO during the 1999 Kosovo War.
He's British and has a beautiful voice.
Love his voice. It's recognisable & different😊
The video was released on January 7, 2020. A Facebook friend posted it on her page on January 14, and I immediately fell in love with it - in fact, I looked up the chords and managed to sing it at an open mic in the first week of February, 2020.
How was the open mic?
@@Killermcknight It was okay. I've figured out how to play and sing the song a bit better since then, but of course, the pandemic has almost eliminated open mics.
Well I'm glad that you were able to do it even if it was just once! That's awesome regardless!
BRING TEARS TO THIS 59 YEAR OLD VIKING EVERY TIME AND SO WAS THE QUEEN VERY MOVING LOVE FROM DENMARK
It's his father in the video. He had Stage 4 kidney cancer, but managed to get a transant, I believe from a relative
I never got the chance to say goodbye to my father. This hit hard.
So sorry to hear that, and for your loss as well 🙏🏻
This is very beautiful song. This day oddly is pretty rare to find a song with very strong lyric, people seems forget how powerful and beautiful words can be.
Blunty truly underrated and from the best country in the world 🏴
Wow, what a song and a powerful singer, man!!🌻🌻
If you want the anti war, then “ No Bravery” is a must
I freaking love war.
He says 2 grown men but still he calls him Daddy . He couldnt let the Daddy go xxxxx
He is English. He was also an officer in the Army, Household Cavalry (the chaps on horseback, red tonics, helmets and swords guarding the Royals. When not on ceremonial duties they are armed recon
Yes lots of people called James and Blunt in Sweden!!! 😂...only pulling your leg...love the channel...❤
