How to remove your Chrysler PT Cruiser center console

This video will show you how to release the e-break/ Parking break lever in order to remove your center console on a Chrysler PT Cruiser. It is also very useful when servicing your Parking break cables

I pulled on the cable while lifting and returning the handle a couple times, no screwdriver needed. Definitely didn't want to remove the seats or anything crazy. I went from totally baffled to got the whole thing out in about 10 minutes. Thank you.

Scotty, I fussed with this for hours and finally succeded. I removed the brake mechanism to find out how it works and learned that there is no need for the screwdriver in the hole. With the brake lever all the way down, pull the cable ALL THE WAY OUT and then pull the e-brake handle all the way up. Once the cable is pulled ALL THE WAY OUT the e-brake mechanism is freed from the cable. Thanks for the video.

Thanks for the tutorial video. I’ll be changing the rear axle on my daughter’s 06 pt cruiser. I bought a loaded rear axle for $100 and was wondering, how in the heck do you disconnect the two lines for the emergency brake. Now I know!!!

I'm gonna try this I was able to remove the center console but now I can't put it back on because of the emergency brake I will let you know if I am able to make it happen using your technique stay tuned...

Thanks for the comment. This should do the trick, it allows you to get the break handle all the way out of the way by removing the spring tension. Then you just need to deal with the seats being in the way. I'd like to see how you got the console out without doing this first.

Man let me tell you removing it was a pain what I ended up doing was literally just pulling and turning until it finally came out lol , now doing it your way it did turned out to be WAY EASIER THANKS MAN FOR THE VIDEO. Is the splitter supposed to be a little uneven like that, or is cable stuck on that car?

I think it was a cable issue. I remember it being even before having a rear break problem.
