Baby elephant, Khanyisa pushes and chases young Timisa and tries to steal her food

- Khanyisa seems to want to play (or steal Timisa's branches) much more than Timisa on this morning out in the bush, but how gently the two young elephant push-about amongst the bushes. Timisa is careful not to hurt Khanyisa but still stands her ground while Khanyisa gives her all to the game, using every technique she can think up. She pushes, chases, trunk-grabs, trunk-curls, kisses, and even slips her long thin pink trunk into Timisa's mouth in the effort to pinch a bite from Timisa's hard-earned foraged branches.
The two youngsters continue at it for some time until Tokwe, Limpopo and Fishan all come running with a great protective trumpet and gather around their mischievous troops. Timisa settles down with adoptive mother, Tokwe beside her, while Khanyisa, with Tokwe's daughter, Limpopo next to her, soon takes up the game once more. Tokwe is the always incredible mother and matriarch, giving Timisa trunk-support and comfort, letting her know she is there, while Fishan who really has become an amazing support-bull to the females provides his guardianship until he realises the two young elephants aren't in danger. Limpopo is always beautifully helpful in her mother's matriarch duties.
Eventually Adine helps Khanyisa get some of her own bark from the branches and Khanyisa gladly enjoys the help and attention.

Khaynisa is taking advantage of Timisa innate kindness. Thank goodness she finally called for reenforcement, and the adults immediately sussed out the situation. This is a lesson for khanyisa. Timisa just grew in maturity here.
Timisa holding her ground helps Khanyisa get stronger. The little peanut has come so very far this year, from the horribly injured infant she once was. Thank God for H.E.R.D.

Oh boy, did we just witness a lesson being taught today? Khanyisa being an aggresive, annoying tough girl today. Driving her big sister Tamisa a bit crazy. Finally, Limpopo, Fishan and Tokwe step in. At first I thought it was Tamisa trumpeting because she had, had enough - and boom all 3 big elephants appear out of no where surrounding Khanyisa and Timisa and breaking the whole thing up! Surrounding them and calming them down. Khanyisa not wanting to really give up yet, is given a gentle push to the side by Limpopo and Tokwe puts her trunk over Tamisa then giving a gentle push forward to walk away. Wow! I found this absolutely amazing! Lesson - no serious fighting, annoying or pushing in the family. Everyday there is something amazing to learn about these awesome gentle giants, and I'm loving every minute of it! Thanks Adine and all at Herd. Khanyisa was fresh today! Lol!
When a young elephant's tusks start coming out is it like teething would be for a human child ? Khanyisa are you being a wee bit mischievous today ?? Timisa is so smart :) When she's had enough of little miss miscief ,she calls for her Mom and gets a hug .
As the three adults encircled the babies and stayed still, I couldn’t help thinking about “time out.” Amazing. Timisa looked so upset until beautiful Tokwe showed her some love and affection. Khanyisa is so precious, but she can be a bully. 🐘

Yesterday Khanyisa was a butterfly. Today she is the annoying mosquito one can't get rid off. I had to laugh at her antics. The 3 super heroes coming to the rescue were perfect. A bit of time out, then so much love and comfort shown in the trunk-hug to Timisa . So beautiful. Thank you Adine and and HERD

This will go down as one of the more remarkable footages of the interaction between elephants. Timisa loves Khanyisa but at the same time Khanyisa’s bratty behavior became unbearable. The way Limpopo and Tokwe intervene and comfort is heartwarming. Fishan gives steadfast support to the females with just his calming presence. Peace again in the family. I’m so glad this was captured. Excellent footage!

Khanyisa is such a character. She was in full-on annoying baby sister mode that day, lol. I loved how Limpopo got her trunk, and then herself, between them. Tokwe was so loving the way she comforted little Timisa. Fishan was all, I'll deal with any danger, you deal with the girls😁 One thing I'll say about feisty Miss Khanyisa though, she never gives up.😁

Ah yes a little snippet of Sunshine being the pestering toddler with big sis Timi because as all who have little ones know whatever you are eating ALWAYS looks more appealing and tastes so much better regardless if it’s the exact same thing or not,mom told me when we were small if she had food she really wanted to enjoy uninterrupted she’d wait until we were asleep.😄 I didn’t realize what she meant until my sister came along so I can definitely relate to Timisa in this instance but she’s so gentle and loving with Miss Pink Princess that I don’t think she minds that much my heart always melts watching these two they have an incredible bond. There’s nothing quite like the relationship between sisters it’s unlike no other and very special indeed I absolutely adore my little girl and can’t imagine my days without her,sisterly love is beautiful and priceless. Thank you for sharing this i was so looking forward to the video it’s definitely one of my favorites I’d absolutely love to see the photo of Lady Courageous and Sunshine “holding trunks” on some merch if possible either on a shirt or poster that’d be so precious.🤗🌈🐘☀️💞💞

Timisa really shined in this video. While khanysia was being pushy and getting away with it due to Timisa not wanting to spoil her bravado. When I saw Timisa stop eating as Ms. Pushy had her trunk in Timisa mouth, and when I saw Timisa constantly back down and let khanysia push her around and eat her food, I knew right then and there that Timisa is really the winner here. Tokwe and Fishan also knew it. I love khanysia but in this video she went way too far for what elephants most consider good vs bad behavior. Thank goodness Adine didn't interfere and let the adults stop the bullying.
Wow Khanysia was really being a pest to Timisa today. Timisa was holding her own..lol. Except for the piece Khanysia finally got out of Timisa's mouth. Everywhere Timisa went Khanysia followed. I don't think I have ever seen Khanysia that naughty before. Her personality is really coming out the older she gets. Then Tokwe, Limpopo and Fish went into protective mode. Well, look at that! Timisa is just a baby too. I've seen her but I never realized how young she is. She blends in with the big bunch, Khanyisa is so little....But Timisa isn't much bigger. Adorable they are. They both have a new long lasting friend.

I was amazed how quickly the adults responded to Timisa’s cry! Everyone was so gentle.

Wonderful video, showing how well the herd deals with each other and responds instantly to any signal. It was particularly interesting how Tokwe was so protective with Timisa, showing that she knew Timisa was distressed and needed reassurance. How lovely to see her daughter team up, and Fishan too, to make up the triangle of safety. They are so gentle and clever, how can we not love them? It was good that Adine was able to distract Khanyisa and cheer her up with some judicious help, sometimes even the sweetest babies have naughty days. 😊😘💞

Adine amazing video. Little Khanyisa's big character here in full display. I wonder if she had just gotten frustrated getting her food or if she wanted to tease and love play darling Timisa, or both. It surely shows she has become "full elephant" and part of the herd. I love how all 3 came running on that call and how they got completely still together as if meditating and lowering the heightened energy. That was an amazing moment! They are very conscious being! Then Khanyisa still had some fire in her which surprised me. It doesn't seem to me it was only about food but what was it sisterly love, rivalry, attention seeking, spirited teasing? Thank Adine for this gem.

Khanyisa and Timisa have a spirited relationship, I'm laughing out loud at some of their antics. I don't think we've seen the last of this playful revelry, certain;y gets more interesting as Kenyisa gets older.
I really enjoyed this family interaction starring annoying little sister, patient big sister and the adults. I was on the edge of my seat wondering how this video would end. I could see it escalating with Timisa on the constant retreat and Khanyisa not quitting. A trumpet sound from Fishan and all adults of these youngsters came to sort out the kids. Great clip, which shows the importance of why humans should not destroy such beautiful beasts. 💕💕💕🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘

Yet, I've never seen elephants fight about food. Like many times there's elephants eating from the same pile of food, and there's no contest nor fighting about it.

It’s like they held them together in their trunks to calm them. I can imagine how upsetting it was for Timi not knowing what to do. And of course Khanyisa is persistent. This is why she survived. It was beautiful elephant herd behavior. Thanks so much for capturing and sharing this interesting interaction.

After putting up with the interference with great patience for a while I am glad that Timisa did eventually call for backup. This is unusual for Khanyisa. Wonder why she did get so pushy with Timisa? maybe Khanyisa finds it difficult t o strip bark all by herself ?.
No she was being rude, and getting away with it because of Timisa kindness.
I think Khanysia is going into her terrible twos. The way she pushed Timisa around was pretty aggressive. Even though Timisa is the bigger of the two we have to remember she is still a baby. She is incredibly sweet and patient with Khanysia and plays big sis very well. Love these two together but glad the adults finally came over to break up whatever was going on. This is a true family and wonderful to watch.

I was not sure, but I guess she did after all the pushing she was getting from our LITTLE PRINCESS KHANYISA! SHE IS DEFINITELY GROWING INTO HERSELF!

At 5.00 Khaniysa was a bit frustrated,didn't know what now… when Timisa just dropped the branch. It was only about 'play with me'!! At 12.00 onwards…… stalemate!

It's so beautiful to see their natural behaviour in their natural environment. Look how the adults rush to the little one's to protect the moment one of them cries out. So so beautiful ❤Thank You for making it all possible for them ❤
Naughty Khanyisa!😄 She really is testing all the boundaries. It's a part of growing up, as is play. It's wonderful to see how confident she's become and how loving the entire herd is to her. Khanyisa is still a baby, and as such given much latitude in her playful behavior. Elephants are loving creatures teaching their young through modeling behaviors. Discipline comes more in ignoring unwanted behavior and gently guiding towards more acceptable behavior.
In another herd, I have seen a female reprimand a much older adolescent, pushing it down and standing over it. This is rare, and was not intended to harm only to cease behavior. The adolescent was trying to steal a hard-earned root from the female and pushed aside her baby to get at it. Mother would not tolerate this! It came as a shock to the adolescent, as it was to us watching, and his trumpet was more in shock and indignation than in fear or pain. This minor skirmish was over in seconds, everyone returning to foraging without rancor. A small baby like Khanyisa would never be treated this way.

Aw, Khanyisa!! Naughty girl!! Her behavior was so silly that poor Fishan had to get involved in the fiasco. Fishan, and his poor leg. Poor Miss Timisa, all she wanted to do was enjoy a tasty meal. It's adorable to see this herd in action. There is certainly never a dull moment, especially with sibling rivalry in the mix. So darn cute!
