Tips And Comments:
- Playing Technique: Played between pickups with differents dynamics throughout the song (try listening to the band and choosing the right dynamics). Used a pick. All knobs at full
- Gear Sound: For the whole song i used a cab emulator with high and low end activated, added treble, bass, middle at 5 or a little more. High gain and a layer of overdrive (just a little) behind.
For the intro i added an octaver with the high octave a little lower, that repeats on the intro riff and a little fill in between. For the solo i added delay and overdrive with octaver too.
Honestly i'm not very proud of the tone, i know i don't have the right equipment but i did what i can
- About The Song: Some parts are hard but i think the trickiest might be the part after the solo, specially for the string skipping. Try practicing that slowly. Transcribed from studio version and positions corrected with live videos (it was hard to see most of the line, so positions might change)

As i said on the description, i did what i could with the tone of the bass. Didnt like it that much. Remember to ask any question on the comments below!
it would be great if you did a bass only of tommy the cat plz you would the best youtuber if you did that. Reply and leave a like if you agree.
CoverSolutions I thought I had it until that triplet move at 5:00 and then the one at like 7:00 .... and then the end...
How on earth did you nail the triplets at the end lol
justin canchellor's tone is so difficult to get don't worry,i'm trying to get it with a simulation of the krueger amp for the oldest song and with the sansamp for the others.Btw Great video you are the best.
He uses a ton of effects and does some weird stuff with splitting his signal. His tone is real tough to replicate
You know Tool is something unique when guitarists watch the entire bass cover
you described be perfectly lol. ive picked up a bass maybe 2 or 3 times
So my 13 year old just came down stairs and said "Oh, I thought that you were playing Doom, with that song on." That sounds like a compliment to me.
I mean doom is a video game that is well respected for its musical compositions.
Some of Doom 3's music was heavily inspired by Tool. You can check out the comparison here m.ruclips.net/video/W3kd0DqDCUQ/видео.html
I'm a guitar player and I just wanted to check if a riff was played on bass or guitar. But I couldn't help but to watch the whole video. Amazing technique.
The best of if is guitar and bass mixed, i love this music, i will never get tired of it
So solo = bass confirmeru? ;)
4:02 I thought that was guitar solo, what an amazing is tool.
Same! I never knew that was a bass solo.
The bass solo sounds like a guitar solo but it’s bass and sounds amazing tool did a great job on that bass solo
I thought it was the Talk Box
@@haxanlord Imagine calling someone a tool but having a satanist profile picture 😂
@@TheSectric bbhnnnn
SHE
What the fuck is that hammering part at the end... my brain couldn't even process that shit.
Just your basic Tool-ish triplets. Same as on the guitar. :)
zeko bunny its so easy tho
do gary come back by spongebob
Samwich I second this
Samwich I third this
Samwich you mean Gary come home ;)
OG SAM last year in my digital media class me and my friends put Gary come home posters all over the school
I nth this
5:00 love it when the bassline kicks in early like that. One of my favourite parts of Rosetta Stoned as well towards the end.
This is Vicarious?
The back and forth riffs in The Pot also do that as well.
excellent cover, dude! @6:37 you annihilated that low string :D
This may have been one of the best covers ever
I listen to tool 24/7 and I have become very fond of 10000 days
Same
I've been listening to them since undertow and 10,000 days is my favorite for sure
Same I bought 10,000 days not long after it came out at the same time with Opeths Ghost reveries which had also just came out and by comparison I thought 10k was boring, and too repetitive. I was not ready for it at that age, but over the years I've had revelations with this album. Always something more to teach. After you read the lyrics and experience the songs for a while, and then years later try to learn the songs on guitar or bass do you realize how innovative and creative a band like tool is. I am blown away by the complexity of the riffs in all these different time signatures, it all just went right over my head. I still love both bands and albums, still years later going back over and learning the songs from both bands, and learning new things by actually learning the music. Very rewarding. This song is amazing, as is rosseta stoned, right in two, etc. Incredible album.
Their time signatures may as well be 24/7
Me-Yeah, 0-3-5 is easy, only beginners think that it is hard.
Justin Chancellor- 7:15
not as hard as it looks...
@@alahad yeah it LOOKS hard but it’s actually easy and fun to play
@@angus9165 My bass has yet to arrive this week, I'll see it for myself. I can play Vicarious on the guitar from beginning to end but I'm having trouble with those hammer-ons at the end on guitar. Maybe it's easier on bass? The strings are more separated so I can see why.
@Vicente_04 Song is going pretty well. But I'm focusing on the album Aenima more. You can see a cover on my channel.
@Vicente_04 Thank you so much! :)
It pleased me to see you wipe your brow, Tool songs are hard.
Also dream theater songs. *specially* dance of eternity. Their former drummer Mike Portnoy is a fucking legend.
There are a total of 108 time signature changes in dance of eternity. Holy shit.
@@shayanmoosavi9139 Dance of Eternity? Harder Guitar, Bass, Keyboard than any Tool song? Definitely a hard YES. Harder drums? I'll just straight up say it - NO.
Just because a song has 108 time changes doesn't mean it's hard. You can feel the whole song. And it's not like Portnoy is leading the rhythm section. All he does is mimicking/following the guitar and keyboard on the drums which again makes it more easier.
Something like the 3 over 4 polyrhythm from Eulogy or the 6/8 over 5/8 polymeter from Lateralus that Danny Carey does is harder cause Danny becomes (and is) the lead instrumentalist of the band and guitars and bass are following Danny instead
Also I wouldn't quite put Portnoy in the "legendary" status. That dude is more showmanship than drumming. Like 90% of the fills he uses in every song is just some linear RLRLKK or some variation of that. It sounds cool to non drummers but to drummers like us, it really gets repetitive and boring
4:00 The bass does something else.
0000, 0, 0 00, 00, 00, 000
It sounds like that because the delay is turned on at that point
3:10 the bass literally just sang right there
One of the greatest songs ever written! And you crushed it as usual!
That ending though 👀
Goddamn I never knew the bass in Tool was SO hectic. Like I always thought it was cool and groovy but didn't know it was as busy and technical as this.
Technical as f*** ! Not like their last release Fear Inoculum which i found easier.
@@biggusdickus8511 7empest, need I say more?
@@Yoshiyahu_ You can try to but i can't guaranty your success....
7empest aaaaaaaaaaand that's all. I'm not saying it's worst or bad or Justin is not as good...i'm sayin that bass lines in FI are easier. Exception with 7empest the hardest hit of this album reminding the oldest releases but not so hard in fact...you have to deal with stamina and know how to count for the low string strumming....
Becuz Justin Chancellor is a fucking bass god
EVERY part in a tool song is crazy hectic. bass, guitar, vocals, and obviously danny carey’s mental drums. every part is so incredibly technical and precise that when all put together it creates a masterpiece. every. single. time.
Since the Lateralus video is blocked on my end, Ill comment it here. That video and to an extent this video inspired me to pick up bass and now I actually play bass, so thank you for sharing these covers with us! Keep up the good work!
Definitely one of my favorite Tool songs. Great job on the cover!
You are a true master of the bass and an inspiration! Thank you so much for this video. The triples at the end of the song are insane and you executed it perfectly!
I love how cover solutions has helped with most of my tool bass tabs
Good job man! This song is so epic to play to. I actually get chills
Thank you so much for posting this. I love this song, and I've been trying to find a good tab for weeks.
It's great to see a channel that makes incredible covers of incredible songs and is still active :) keep I up
Perfect and precise bass playing. Tools bass lines are a force to be reckoned with.
This is probably my favourite song at the moment :D. Cheers mate!
Tool Right in Two
Dambuster617 b
All hail the king of Tool covers!
That was insanely perfect just like the other songs :)
Nice tone!! I am amazed at how many different sounds you get!
7:15
Holy Crap my fingers hurt from just watching that!
Is actually not that hard and if you can nail it correctly, it is really addictive, like, you pkay the whole song just to get into that part to play it along with the song lol
Been using your vids for years now, this I think is the greatest metal/rock/how do you define a genre song of all time. Thanks for the lessons
Thank you so much for everything you do. You’re the only reason I’ve been able to learn these songs. Tabs with Tool are difficult, because it’s hard to feel out the rhythm by just reading them. Having someone play along and bring out the tone to hear exactly what I’m supposed to be playing when is amazing. 🌀
hey man, its been some time that im learning a lot from you, all i want to say is thank you from the bottom of my heart, i was having a depression crises but then i started to play bass again and you gave me strenght to be good at my instrument and that helped my self-steem aswell, just thank you, and sorry my broken english =x.
I play it since a long time but needed a refreshment to the right notes on the breakdown. The power in this bass part is amazing
I love that song! Great job as always!!!
man, this is soooo good. nice job!
Dude your bass covers really help. I don't play bass at all, but watching these help me learn the drum part so much faster than breaking it down on my own. Good stuff, man! 😃👌
Wow, this tone is spot on, well done!
Its worth noting how much this bass line coincides with the actual lyrics and meaning behind the song. All parts of this band. Much better you than i.
Ive watched this many times and im always blown away lol. Maybe someday ill be able to play it all the way through
Can you do tool parabola
Mr. Cantaloupe parabol hardly worth a bass lesson. Beautiful song but very simple
actually Parabol is in DADG tuning and Parabola is in BEDG tuning, so it would be impossible to do a seamless cover without editing.
Harubro Haruhara +1
i play them both in BEDG... sounds perfect
Yes i would like to learn both also please, ive watched a few covers but some people are playin it diffrent
Well that was fast. Yesterday I requested this song:D Thank you so much!!!
As a massive TOOL fan, that was the absolute shit. You did it justice. Thank you !!
Justin: "Good luck suckers"

The legends are true.
Dude's a machine! Nicely done.
Now that's what I am talking about !! Great cover.
To think that 39 people somewhere out there disliked this....not even Justin Chancellor himself could give this a thumbs down. Excellent work as always, mate. Thanks for taking the time to tab it out for us mere mortals....especially the closing bars....that shit is heavvvy.
Im not a bassist but personally i think the tone sounds badass. Your covers are the best dude keep it up. You do Tool justice without a doubt
Había estado esperando este cover desde hace tiempo :D
I was searching for thissss...thank youuuuuuuuuu.
Thanks man!!! You are making really cool and inspiring stuff!
omg! I've been waiting for your take on this song
thank you so much fir these videos your'e awesome!!!
Dude your tone is really good. Definitely did a great job with the equipment you have.
One of the coolest riffs ever written
you're something else mate. your videos help me a lot!
simply incredible.
I knew that ending was going to be awesome and I was not disappointed. Great video.
GOD FINALLY!!!
Gracias hermano, gracias por este gran regalo de navidad!
Dude I just want to thank you, you are the reason I can play a bunch of songs now :D
excellent cover! i have a long time waiting it :o
Nailed it!!!
Great! Your videos helped me to become a better bass player. Thank you so much!
best tool covers ever keep them coming
I can't stop watching this video, so F amazing
do a cover of JAMBI!! i not only would love to play along and learn but also hear your playing over it, you nail it!
I am so glad u have covered this
that tone is like silk for my ears
Awesome cover man. Particularly the nuance in your playing. Would be awesome to see you cover Jambi
Nice groove!
muy buena cover, llevaba tiempo queriendo aprenderme esta cancion, pero no me convencia ninguna otra cover, asi que espere a que tu la subieras, ya que es mas facil de aprender por la tablatura, sigue trabajando asi, muchas gracias
That sassy half bend on the 7th fret @ 3:10 is so subtle but so perfectly placed
JUSTIN FREAKING CHANCELLLOOOOORRRRR holy hell this is a fantastic cover and that tone is righteous. Gotta look into that bass it’s sweet as heck.
Perfect, keep going!
as someone who doesnt listen to much tool, this song reminds me alot of schism.
It feels like how in video games or in movies where they have a main theme and have variations of said theme
Citrus Blast Tool has the same sound on quite a few songs. Can't blame you. I recommend you listen to their ep Opiate on RUclips though, I think while it's similar it's probably the most different from this song through out most. Not sure, been about a year since I've listened to Tool.
question is are they all from the same album :Y
if ya want a song that'll fuck you up listen to Rosetta Stoned...with lyrics cuz you won't understand a thing.
BeenieBombYT yes! I believe it is with viginty trees, wings for mary and 10000 days if I remember correctly
That's because most of their songs are in the same key, D minor. I'm a big tool fan, but I can see where you're coming from.
Well done, as always!
that was frickin great dude!
This surpassed Lateralus as my favorite bassline ever. Thank you so much for both
The pot is up there. That shit is fuckin dope
@@dmt1236 the intro of the voice is so fucking good idk why
nailed it!
Beautiful! I'm having difficulties about playing with pick but it seems that I can't play without them.
Great job
My favorite bass in any song ever. Every bassline is orgasmic in this song.
you done a great job on this..wow
Increible lo que toca este pibe. Impresionante
Gj mate!
Enjoying your videos
I suggest Parabola next
So great broo.
That tone tho!! 💪
Amazing!!!!!
All these years and I never realized it was a bass solo, sounded epic af. Well played sir. I started trying to learn this playing fingers, I guess theres no playing that solo using only fingers, is there?
Beautiful. Thank you for all your hard work, it's helped me tremendously. Keep it up! Much love from Arizona
PS: If you did Jambi by Tool, my life would be complete :)
Great job bro!
That bass tone feels like morning wood :)
Wicked bass skills man you are the guy I come to for bass tabs
Wicked playing man
i think its a chick,no?
Taryn Weisberg Nope.
It's a guy. What made you think it was a chick?
Sounds amazing 😉
Menuda locura el final. Genial
So good
epic song to play
Impressive man!!!
