Wow, very informative. I'm an elderly disabled female that purchased a 2000 Sienna, drove it for 2 weeks and it bombed. When inserting key in ignition, dome light came on just fine. In the middle position, the dash lit up, but when I turned the key all the way to "start", everything went dead. Isn't getting power to anything, despite being a brand-new battery--and when we tried to jump-start it nothing happened, no power. I checked the battery cable connections (also brand-new) and they're tight. I thought that might boil it down to the solenoid or the starter, but you've given me other issues that need checking. Seems like some of these solutions are cheaper than replacing the starter. Thanks!
I did exactly as instructed with the relay and the fuse and discovered that it was the fuse that got broken. My car start after I fixed the fuse. Thank you.
Thank you so much sir!!! Today you saved me big time. My 2001 Sienna was not starting. I followed your instructions in the video and I just wiggled the purple starting relay. My car started right away. Kodos to you sir. Thanks again
very good video. I was finding that the relay operated and there was voltage to the starter but not enough current to pop the starter solenoid. Jumping the relay posts as shown provided plenty of starter activity. A removal of the relay cover and an inspection of the contacts showed there was a small flare up of contact (I call this a teat lol). A flat jewelers file from the open side of the contacts made a quick repair. The cause of the teat....likely starting the car on a low amp battery too many times in the past. That will prolong the closing of the contacts, thus overheating the contacts, and cause the problem with the relay.
I was going bananas because my 2000 solara wouldn't want to start same engine as this sienna turns out it was the ignition relay switch and the fuses were blown and i changed the starter thinking that was the problem I'm such moron this video deserves more views and likes thanks bro
Your video was very helpful. After troubleshooting via your helpful tips I deducted the seleniod was bad. I replaced the starter. The van still won't start. All the fuses looked good. Before replacement I bypassed the relay switch... it would not start. Also much easier to replace the starter with the battery and the air cleaner removed.
Very clear and informative! Thank you! Only thing that could have been added (just a thought) is the year range that this applies to (1998-2000) or whatever the range. My dad has a 1998. This information applies to 1998! Maybe you could pin it at the top of the comments. Again very good info!
Thanks , your video is very helpful and mindful . So , I have this problem with the alarm on my Toyota Sienna 2oo1 . Thought at first it could be just the battery and had replace it with a new one just now . which brings me to your channel . My question Why is the alarm not working even after replacing a new key battery # 2025 , could it be something else ? Fuse ? I don't know , Can you help. Thanks.
Lehew you just save me a lot of money And my girlfriend is happy now Long story short... I was " charging my cell with an adapter on the cigarette lighter. I move the switch to the on position (bad idea) It drain my battery, took it to AutoZone next day and obviously they said your battery is no good. Bought another one(not with them) my 99 Sienna wouldn't start, wouldn't even cranck my girl was mad. I watch your video. Follow step by step, check the 30 fuse and the 10 inside under wheel steering they were good. Last thing I checked was the starter relay the big one .... I did what you suggested with the key on the On position, make contact both ends with the needle nose pliers and My Sienna started right away... So my question is Replacing that starting relay should end all the problems I mean I took it out and did what you suggested make contact both ends with the plyers and the starter work right away . Car is on NOW Replace that relay??? Right....
Very clear video. Haven't checked out what you recommended yet. Hopefully I can track down what's going on with my previous intermittent starting issue...which has now, seemingly, turned into a total no start issue.
Excuse me. I have a question, my sensor connector Bank1 , sensor 1. Toyota Sienna LE 1999. The heating wires both have ground. The others 2(Bank1, sensor 2, and bank2, sensor 2) connectors only one have ground in +B. A question: what should I do? (The scanner always say P0135 (1/2) bank1, sensor 1. Second code P0135 (2/2) bank1, sensor 1. If you know about it. let me know I'll appreciate it.
How about a 2004Sienna? Backed it into drive. Turned ignition off. Loaded car and went to start...nothing. steering wheel was not locked, was upside down, gear shifter stuck in Park. Stepped on brake, turned key in ignition ... nothing. Hooked up battery charger and it immediately showed green light (= fully charged right?). Pushed black button next to gear shifter releasing It and moved down to neutral, stepped on brake turned key, again nothing. Watched your video for 2000 Sienna but 2004 purple relay has no diagram to show how to jump like you did. I'm reluctant to fly blind. Relay(MG/CLT) next to purple ST relay is black with diagram on side showing the switch but not on purple relay. Ideas???
I don't know what you look like, but you are so hot right now because you might have just saved me not just $200 for the fuel pump that I was going to go by from AutoZone myself because I know shop parts suck with their shitty 3-month warranties that cost eight times as much, and I don't even want to know how much they were going to overcharge me for the overestimated amount of labor on a part if not several parts that I probably didn't need, or what other part on my van they're going to loosen up when I'm overpaying them in the first place to simply just fix the fuel pump because they treat you like a stupid girl that doesn't know any better! I recently moved down here I don't know anybody that well or trust them with my vehicle because they're not very smart here or useful and I have no money! But you are phrickin' awesome!! I'm going to go try that right now...
So Helpful! I also appreciated the pun at the end: "I hope this video was a good starting point..." Nice!
This was a fantastic demonstration of this non-start situation. Thank you.

Can you tell me how to check the relay for my AC that isn't working on my 2000 Toyota Sienna?
Very clear video.
Haven't checked out what you recommended yet.
Hopefully I can track down what's going on with my previous intermittent starting issue...which has now, seemingly, turned into a total no start issue.
what if sparks fly when you put the pliers on to test the relay?
Did you ever find out what this meant? The Same thing happens to me.
When I try connecting both pins this results in a little spark and I hear a click elsewhere. Any ideas?
