We were having the same problems with one of our 60 Series motors and watched this video and it was exactly right. We ordered both of these sensors and our truck starts like a brand new one!!!!!! Thanks for sharing this video
SRS , Synchronous Reference Sensor TRS , Timing Reference Sensor DDEC 3 / 4 SRS sensor located above air compressor , gives the ability to start the engine . Great videos Gordon !
when you change that other sensor check for metal sticking to the magnet. If your bull gear bearings start to go bad it will pick up some of the shavings
i got a series 60 in my KW same yr as yours and it takes a notion not to start i give it a shot of ether it lights off and im on my way , had it overhauled a couple yrs ago and they put a new internal harness on the injectors that seemed to have fixed the problem but after about 90 days went back to the same old non start condition again im wondering now if the same sensor you just changed might be the culprit
I had the same issue on my detroit, changed the sensor and never had to use ether again. Mine seemed to start fine cold but when warm the sensor wouldn't read right and a shot of ether would get it going.
Thanks for watching Tim. Since that is an easy part to change and not too costly might as well go for it, the other sensor (SRS) is harder to do but I will do that and a video when I get the truck home for the holiday. Happy Thanksgiving.
I like your videos and u help in the past.my problem is :truck sitting over the weekend and isnt starting i spray little bit starting fluid to started. U think is fuel issue or any sensor crs trs??truck start fine every day only when it sitting weekend. Thank you
Hey Gordon thanks for the video, I noticed the long start after you changed the sensor. Did that go away after your batteries were charged or did changing the other one fix it?
Thanks for watching. I don't know why it did that, I haven't had that problem before, I think maybe it lost it's prime from trying to start it before replacing the sensor.
hi gordon i have 60 seies my truck start every morning fine. but when i shut down for 30 or 40 mins then he takes 15 to 20 cranks to start. please advise me
hey gordon i just got new reman 12.7l put in from detroit. it has all sensors new and got all new accessories, clutch, trans the truck having hard start. i have to crank for 20 seconds and then it will rumble and then start with some white smoke then its smooth and runs good with no issues and no leak of power. if i turn off for 1-2-3 hours its fine. but overnight, it will be hard start mechanic said its fuel lines sucking air and he want to change all lines with estimate of $3000 for lines and labor since both sensors are new what could it be ? could it be lines ? my dad is old school driver says its the check valve behind the motor the reason. like i said its having hard start. i have to crank for a while then try again then it starts or with ether it will start quickly.
I really don't know. $3000 is way too much for fuel lines, if you could find a way to put a little air pressure on the fuel tanks you will see if there is a fuel leak in any of the fuel lines which would be a vacuum leak on the suction when truck is running but I don't think that is the case.
gordon we need a video on cam seal got a leak and mechanic wants to do full overhaul and truck running great with good oil pressure as im topping off oil every 3-4 days
I can't do a special video on something like that unless my truck was down for that reason but I might have that covered in my series on the in frame overhaul, look in my playlists for that.
The rear seal is not too hard to change but the front one is not worth the trouble just for that, better to just get used to adding oil and cleaning the motor more often. You don't need an overhaul for that.
@@57bagre thats what i have been doing last 30k miles adding a quart every 3 days or so i also have a leak from seal between air compressor that that little accessory drive thats attached to front cover on driver side that leaks alot. any idea if i normally need just the seal or accessory drive as well air compressor working fine but oil leak blows everywhere and especially over ecm and i dont wsnt to put pressure washer on it.
The accessory in front of the compressor is the power steering pump, you can take that off and clean the gasket surface with a sharp scraper and dry it off with brake cleaner and put some Permatex Gasket Maker www.amazon.com/Permatex-82194-High-Torque-Silicone-Gasket/dp/B000HBGI8K/ref=sr_1_6?crid=2EQUI2T8I6K32&keywords=permatex+gasket+maker&qid=1669042747&sprefix=permatex%2Caps%2C116&sr=8-6 any color on and do not buy a new gasket, only use the silicone. You do not need to add a quart of oil at a time to the motor, as long as you get something on the stick your fine, you can put 1 or 2 gallons at a time in. Doesn't hurt to go down to the end of the stick or to over fill a half gallon or more. I'll try to do a video on patching leaks on the series 60 this coming weekend.
I believe this what happen to my Ddec2 12.7 but i end up buying a Ecm after towing and after 5200 truck just sitting economy went and rates so i let her sit for a while . I really believe i spent all that money for nothing but i was 600 milea away from home just glad i got her back home
Even if it’s something that I know how to do, I still watch how you do ur repairs so I can learn something new. Love your videos Gordon. God bless 🙏🏾
I appreciate that! Happy Thanksgiving.

Thank you sir and Happy Thanksgiving to you as well.
Great to see you again Gordon. Thanks for showing
Good to hear from you too Adam. Happy Thanksgiving.
Top tier video my Pete cranked right up after replacing these
Did you replace both or just 1?
Good to have you back with a great video, thanks for sharing such knowledge, Mr Gordon
Thanks for watching Manuel.
10-4 Mr.Gordon ,love all of your Videos.HAPPY THANKSGIVING
Thank you sir, Happy Thanksgiving to you as well.
Glad you didn't have to struggle with it too badly ! Thanks Gordon
Thanks for watching.
Glad to hear that you got it going sir. God bless and thanks for the video! 🚛💨
Thank you sir.
The SRS & TRS sensors are common problems. It's best to replace them both if you have time because it's not very long that the other goes bad too.
Yes they do work together and I plan to change the other one at home this week since the weather will be better.
I agree and it’s the only way I would work on one
Plus I keep the parts

Good for you Gordon, I hate working on my vehicles. Got to do what needs to be done.
Thanks Doug. I'm glad it was a simple fix since I was not at home.
Glad you got it after first repair attempt.

Most likely because the engine was so cold.
any time i change out an air compressor on a Detroit i always change that sensor because it suddenly so easy to get to.
Good idea. Thanks for watching.

Kinda of touch-and-go there. Glad you got the right sensor on the first try. Since you have the other sensor will you change that one out at home?

Hey Gordon, thank you for your videos! I have a question: Did you have any engine light come on when this TRS sensor went bad?
No I did not, just would not start.
When it was not starting, could you get it to run on ether?
Please put that on RUclips as well when you change the other sensor..thank you
Thank you very much for the video
Glad you got it fixed Gordon. Have a happy Thanksgiving. Try & Stay Warm
Thanks Don. Happy Thanksgiving to you too.
You can smack them and remagnitize on occasion if your in a jam I think the srs will continue to function just can't shut the truck off

Sorry to hear about your bad luck. I hope you get it back together soon.
Tried working mine out on a 2004 the original sensor no locket broke had to pull the pan push it out🤬👍
Muy pegado el sensor del tiempo no lo puedo quitar
aveses debes bajar el carter de aceite y pusar sensor afuera de el lado adentro
The oil that made it easy to get out is also what caused it to fail in the first place.
💖💖💖Great content Again sorry about the troubles but Amazing content Hope All Is Well 💖💖💖
