Your channel is priceless, Gordon. You possess a lot of wisdom and knowledge, and we're grateful that you share it with the world. Be safe out there, and God bless!
Gordon I have worked on several of those freight liners, and a lot of them had a ground wire from the ground post on the starter to the block right next to the starter. Also, the ground studs that Freightliner uses on their frames. Are a problem, I usually cut them off and drill a hole, and then run the ground directly to the frame, I try to put a star washer between the ground cable and whatever I’m grounding to ,also, I’ll put some Noco battery protector spray on there sometimes, FYI, don’t use stainless steel fasteners when doing electrical work stainless steel does not conduct electricity very well. Whatever I have starting issues on anything I want to look at the wire itself, cut some of the insulation off of the battery cables and check the wire, if it is black or green, then it is causing resistance and resistance is heat, good luck and take care
Thanks for watching.
A lot of hard starting issues are ground related - one example, had a customers Cat backhoe that had starters, batteries, relays etc chucked at it over the course of months, would still crank slow, was a sod to start, so they asked me to look at it. I knew from experience these suffer with poor grounds, so I took out a starter bolt, cleaned that thing & the faces till they shone, made up the worlds beefiest lead from some welding cable & 2 heavy lugs, ran it from the starter bolt back to battery negative - that sucker span like a top once that was done.
I have a similar issue with my truck. I'll check my connections as well. Thanks for sharing
I hope that's all it is to fix it. Thanks for watching.
Every ground connection should always be treated with deep suspicion.
I agree. Thanks for watching.
@@57bagre We are closer in age than I would like to admit, but you never stop pushing forward. Respect.
Well, I don't feel old except when I see how young everyone else are looking. I'm thankful for good health.
@@57bagre That's the truth.

When asked how he was.
Another informative video, Gordon. I like your thought process and how you go about finding the issue. Been watching the last few videos you've posted. Great to see you working on your projects. As always, anticipating your next post and wish you the best!
Thanks Pete. Good to hear from you as well.
I had a similar thing with my Fastrac tractor and it turned out to be the copper connection between the solenoid on the starting motor !
I hope this video helps to show all the possible causes for an electrical problem. Thanks for watching.
Good hustlin' there, especially with an electrical problem!
I like electric work on auto and house, not to say I know it all, I sure don't but I seem to always win on my problems. Thanks for watching.
@@57bagre 👍
Get you some fluid film. Fluid film is a rust prevention spray that is non conductive and great for keeping cable ends from corroding.
Thanks Dane.
I had a FLD120 where it grounded to frame by battery box was always a NIGHMARE FROM HELL.
Thanks for watching Mark.
This should help. Thanks
Thank you sir.
Great video
Thank you so much for these videos
Glad you like them!
Great video.
Thanks for watching.
@1:27 why do you have positive and negative connected ?
I cut a piece of rubber inter tube to put on the ends to protect from corrosion on the battery, finish and hold the rubber on with a zip tie.👍
Thanks for watching.
I love it thanks 🙏🙏👍👍
Question, i wws told that if you welded on anything electrical you have to disconnect the Battery, T or F ?
No, in most cases that would not be necessary. The current from the welder will only pass between the weld and where the ground clamp is attached which should be as close to the spot to be welded as possible or practical. It would be a good idea to do that where sensitive electronics are close to or sharing the same ground path where you are welding.
Just run a ground strait to the starter
Please do an alternator and starter rebuild video. Also where can i purchase a rebuild kit for the starter and alternator?
Hopefully I can get to that this winter. All of the parts for that are on the workbench waiting for a chance to do videos on that.
What grade of sandpaper is good for cleaning those terminals?
180 to 240 or a brush wheel on a drill
Pick up a can of ACF 50 & hose down your grounds in the fall before the salt gets to them.
Awful expensive stuff but I'll try a can. Thanks Will.
@@57bagre It's expensive for sure but I was turned onto using it by a friend who works on aircraft it's what they use and i am pretty impressed with how it handles brine!
