  • Join the Barefoot Doctors Sailing to see how to set and trim an Oxley Levante on any boat and examples shown on this Leopard 50 sailing catamaran. Paul Badenhorst also discusses the pros and cons of the 4 line versus 2 line wing spinnaker control systems.
Here is the recommended way to set and trim the Oxley Levante (winged spinnaker) when you take the exciting step of getting it flying! Paul Badenhorst, who is an experienced skipper with over 285,000nm under his belt, shares his knowledge to help everyone understand and use their Oxley's and other winged spinnakers to the maximum!
Many folk have asked why we do not use 4 lines and Paul answers this question with the pros and cons of both systems....
This short how to video is specifically aimed at people that have or are considering having a wing spinnaker and those that want to improve the performance of the sails they already have. While many people have concerns about using these large spinnakers like Oxley's, we hope that this step by step info about trimming it correctly will hopefully getting more folk call to get it up and use it more often....
Once hoisted this sail gives you fast and easy sailing downwind and we commonly sail this heavily laden, world cruising prepared Leopard at 50%-60% of the true wind speed directly downwind and higher percentages when at higher angles! The ease of operation and forgiving nature of the sail makes this ideal for long distance downwind sailing and eliminates the risk of gybing and the stress of sailing deep!!!
For more information, support, personal advice and to order your Oxley, contact either Paul Badenhorst on Facebook or WhatsApp (+27 73 510 0081) or Marcos on email marcos@oxleysa.com.
Please share these videos with other Oxley owners to share the great info from Paul!
Our exciting Patreon option from only $3 per week, will allow our supporters to enjoy live updates on positions and daily logs on the Atlantic crossing as well as join us for sailing events in Gocek, Turkey (Sept 2023), Aegean Greece, May 2024. Then in Dubai Jan 2025 (aboard the new Portofino 52) join us for the launching party and test sails!!! We are also offering boat build tours with sailing off Dubai to share the progress of the P52 build and provide whatever sailing or life discussions that YOU want us to provide during all of these events..... It is a very exciting prospect and we have been requested repeatedly to give advice, take folk sailing, teach sailing techniques etc etc.... So here it is!!!

Looks nice. The tip about chaffing is well needed over long distances and multiple day sailings where the sun, sea and salt are all working against the longevity of the sail and sheets. I've never considered 4 lines, but I can see if your jibing a lot then it does make sense, thanks for that!

Glad to help Garth! We will only use the two lines though as it is so easy to snuff and gybe and not have all the hassles of 4 lines...

Thanks. Really enjoyed this series. Learned a lot. An Oxley Levante seems a bit less fussy than a four line parasail. We did have a few problems whenever the bottom of the parasail was out of level.

Thank you for this great video! Very helpful, as we are just learning to handle the Oxley Levante on our Nautitech 40 Open. May I ask a questions though: If you are sailing with 4 lines (in the Med), which of the lines are the important ones when running dead downwind?

Hi Icoco, you will still need to use one guy and one sheet line and it does matter which way you set it. If you use two guy lines the bottom is brought in too narrow and if you use two sheet lines, the sail rubs on the stanchions. So pick one side chosen based on the way you may turn later or if there is going to be a wind shift.....

@@barefootdoctorssailing8567 Thank you for your reply. It’s a great sail and we love to learn how to manage it properly. It’s easier thank one night think at first glance. 🤞👍
