    "it's kind of how I want to use Instax, as a hand held camera."
    Yep. I bought a 3D printed Graflok mount conversion for my 1940-ish Anniversary Speed Graphic to do just that. I have the Kalart rangefinder calibrated for the 135 mm Tessar (with gutted shutter) that I normally keep on the camera, set back the infinity stops using the focusing panel and the shim that came with my LomoGraflok, and now I have a focal-plane shutter hand held instant camera.
    The lens is f/4.5 to f/32, shutter from about 1/8 to 1/1000. No flash capability (synch contacts on focal plane came on the Pacemaker generation cameras), but at ISO 800, I really only need flash for poorly lit indoor scenes; I can hand hold this camera down to 1/20 or so (possibly slower than that on Instax, since it won't be enlarged), which gets me a "shooting in the dark" look even under good streetlight when wide open. And Instax is so cheap! Wide costs less than color 120 in a 6x9 back (albeit I won't be making any 16x20 prints from Instax originals).

    how to focus when switching from Lomoback on Cameradact to RB67-filmback? twice focussing needed?

    • @CAMERADACTYLCameras
      @CAMERADACTYLCameras 2 года назад +1

      They are registered in the same spot and same film plane depth, so they have the same focus and image center. no need to focus twice!

    4:11… lightmeter shows 500ISO, but Instax is 800ISO to my knowledge? And, when I shoot it with what the light meter tells me for 800ISO, it’s always overexposed. I need to adapt it more to 1000ISO or even 1200ISO…
    Nice video by the way. Thank you!

    I have been trying to decide how to use the Lomograflok as well. It is too unwieldy and slow for a material that we are used to shooting in a spontaneous way which is Instax film. I do not want to be inserting and removing the spacer. This is a very promising development to adapt the material (Instax) to the lens and camera. Plus, I can't help chuckle over and over at the bit where Ethan earnestly intones about the perils of film and how we will end up under a bridge! "Stay off the film, kids!". Too late, too late, I am addicted and can't stop!

    I had preordered the back back in April and got it at the same time you did and it really blew my mind how well it all worked out. I got a beat up Toyo View and got it to shooting condition and it's really neat. Going to buy all that film now from that store. Happy New Year!

    • @Joe_VanCleave
      @Joe_VanCleave  2 года назад

      The Lomograflok comes with its own shim, but their shim doesn't have the integral plastic view screen that Ethan makes. Contact Cameradactyl Cameras and see if Ethan is offering his version for sale.

  • @andyvan5692

    @7:38, this is the advantage of a graffic or speed graffic, or a Linhof technika style camera; the Rangefinder helps to 'depart' from the ground-glass focussing, you leave the film in (darkslide CLOSED, or the roll film back), then compose, shoot, all without removing the film.

    • @marianoguy
      @marianoguy 2 года назад

      but then the rangefinder would have to be adjusted specifically for the distance at which the instant film sits

    • @michaelprzewrocki4195
      @michaelprzewrocki4195 2 года назад

      @@marianoguy exactly and focus instax not the same for filmmag. nonpractical. just converted bigshot to horseman 67/220. register should be identical. in any case i have fixed-focus which i can calibrate on a rangefinder. no need for instax. but HQ portraits

    Great video! Why after shooting do you keep the instax in your pocket?

    • @Joe_VanCleave
      @Joe_VanCleave  2 года назад

      Good question! With the earlier versions of Impossible Project instant film they were temperature sensitive, warming them with body heat sped up the development process. Fuji Instax is not nearly so sensitive, but there’s still a noticeable effect in cold weather where the shadow detail may take upward of 10 minutes to complete.

  • @Dahrenhorst
    @Dahrenhorst Год назад

    Sorry, but I don't get it. Shooting Fuji Instax with a 4x5 camera is like selecting a deliberately overpriced economic seat on a plane, when you could fly in business or 1st class for just a little more. These films make sense in an Instax camera, but I think that the money spend for that film is better invested in expired 4x5 film for the same price or even photographic paper for paper negatives or reverse positives.
    And if you really want to check the setup or the lighting, simply use your smartphone. And if you want to make several pictures fast in one go, get yourself a 6x9 back. So thanks, but no thanks.
    Having said this, I'm sure, that those two guys had a lot of fun that day, so after all, it may have been worth the money for the film after all!
