Wimbledon 'Common'?

- There is a big tennis competition in Wimbledon which is hosted by 'The All-England Club'. It is a private members club formed in 1868 by aristocrats, royalty, traders and croquet enthusiasts. The precursor of croquet was 'Pallio Mallio' aka 'Pall Mall' where there are also lots of wealthy, private members clubs. It turns out that even though Wimbledon is common land, it is privately owned by the Spencer family. The very same family that brought about Winston Churchill and Princess Diana. Wimbledon is where royalty and aristocrats rub shoulders with ordinary folk whilst picking their pockets. An ideal situation for a 'baby shower', wouldn't you agree?
One of the best and accurately informative commentaters is hopefully not displaced but rather just absent. I truely hope this is of Sam's own choosing rather than something more sinister. I would love to see the reappearance of Sam to once again guage the philosophy that is SWilliamism.
Same, I think he’s probably just taken some time. Someone said he has become a dad, and if that’s true then this makes sense as no way would he have time to do this anymore . Anyway it would be really good to see him back
What I like most about your videos is that you address the camera (me) directly rather than from behind it. Makes me feel like I'm along for the ride. Good stuff.
very well put
DAB42 bridges Couldn’t agree more
DAB42 bridges couldn’t agree less sadly. What I and presumably most other viewers like most is the material presented...
I spent a most magical year living in Wimbledon commuting in to the city ... Thanks for another fine vlog - and the trip down memory lane - from an Englishman driven into exile - living in LA
Sam please do a video on Epping forest and Queen Elizabeth 1st hunting lodge.
Id love that , spent my childhood in Epping forest
One of the conveniently missing Commandments is that no man shall own any land.
Samophobia-fear that somewhere, somehow, Sam is filming and zoomed in on you.
I particularly appreciated this one.
We watch a lot of bush-craft videos.
Thanks for the English scenery!
Sam you are a very handsome chap. Loving your vids. So glad I found you.
Tom Loves you .Sounds like we've got a pommy poofter here folks.
Ted Tedster it’s that woofer tommy Watkins
He really is very attractive, but the brain is the sexiest organ (of course!) so I would watch/listen purely for the content, even if he didn't show his face. He has knowledge, wit and charm as well. Greetings from Hampshire, England ;-))
@@katewolfspirit6722 💯
@@tedtedster8644 Sams probably not gay but what’s wrong with that anyway lol
Sam great videos i love history and you learn us all so much thanks.
I found this video very interesting.
His channel is very interesting 💯
@@jackiebayliss you are so right. It really is.
There was also a golf course on the common , members of which were required to wear a red T shirt or jumper to differentiate themselves from the regular commoners .
Interesting contrast between the hustle and bustle of the mainline station area and the altogether more scenic and pleasant surroundings of the common !
Loving your work and glad to see that Charlie Veitch now approves of it so much as to take the time to comment .......
Band Wagon and Jump are words that spring to mind !
mesmerizer i like your eye for detail
Thanks for showing us the fort.
Love the music.
I know this is way off topic but where are all the men like you hiding? I need one.
Christina K. I’m waiting for you hun x :)
interesting video sam
Epping Forest Sam please.
Stu D I remember been on a camp site on the edge of Epping Forrest in the eighties , in the next field were people in white gowns and hoods after dark there was drumming then a loud gut churning scream followed by silence, it was very disturbing and there was a lot of security about?
what no Wombles im gutted :D
😂💯
I queued for a long time in 1980's on the Common to get into Wimbledon - never again! Not sooo much security then though !!!
08:00 I've never seen a bird swagger before.
you are born with rights, only privileges can be taking away
ok so on a random stroll, the symbolism you were presented with was a rider on a white horse, a raven (?) and a rabbit, and then some swallows/swifts.
Cannock Chase near to where I live is similar !!!
I am from Wimbledon as I sadly no longer now residing in the Cotswolds though keep the good work up Sam
Just a thought Sam,Maybe other cities could be covered same as London ,starting with Liverpool ?
why don't you do one? its just a camera n mic with a shoulder rig..i been to Liverpool. its like a miniature London. should be interesting.
I would love it if Sam came to Liverpool !
I really appreciate your approach I think all aware people might jump into this "reality narrated"
Oi bacon no. I believe you had a hand in the new testament too care to comment.
You should totally start a chilled out wildlife photo/videography channel.
4:10 That tiny Japanese G4S lady is freaking adorable!
the shot at 06:50 reminded me of a Vietnam shot from Platoon. Oh, wildlife...
What's the vaguely haunting accordion music at the start please? Love it!
Matthew Brooker Philip glass - metamorphosis
Thanks David!
Crimewatch Wimbledon (now that Crimewatch UK is axed after 33 years)
Philip Glass is great. I loved his Akhenaten opera.
Thank you so much to "David Marriott". Shazam and SoundCloud weren't up to it for me. Or am I too drunk? Been bingeing on Sam's for thousands of hours (?). Ah yes and "Mad Rush" by Philip Glass too (next up in my Deezer). Sam uses that elsewhere. Good grief. Philip Glass did the sound-track for the Truman Show too. Hints, hints everywhere.
Who gives that right, is it given, or taken, or usurped, or assumed?
Just do some more random strolls and lets see what other symbolism presents. Don't feel you have to have an issue or an occasion.
A baby isn't a scumbag but its parents will make it one
I see Chairman Mao is now working for G4S !! Lol !!
"Super important and manly topic, (deep voice) rights, etc -- Oh! A bunny rabbit!" Yes, you get off topic, but it's absolutely adorable. I'll bet the dudes here hate it, but I know the ladies think it's quite attractive. My husband does the same thing, and it's literally why I married him. ;-)
A baby is not a scum bag.
I thought for a minute that Godfrey Reggio had made another Qatsi film (but with slightly less budget this time!)
Top man 🏸🐇🕊🌞
So there is no such thing as 'Common Land' - as in public property. Eeek. Like 'common land'. If it's in 'Capitalised' it's 'defined' i think.
i think you've got that wrong mate. I believe those tables are for bag searches. Therefore the plastic bags are for items G4S have deemed people are not allowed to keep if they enter Wimbledon! Not sure what those items are precisely, it varies from event to event.
What about Murray's knighthood suggestions? Isn't it a bit too much? Pretty sure it was all previously arranged.
pantcho stfu he nearly died won 4 majors he is the man
The Wombles ❤️
Wimbledon Train Station could really benefit from a facelift .
The Common brings back some shady dealings relating to the Rachel Nickell murder there in July 1992 .
The fish & chip shop , on the one way system , was good .
I'll never forget writing off an MR2 , aswell as 4 other cars , on that one way system one crazy Friday night !
Oh , wildlife , indeed .....
Swifts or Swallows i think
Swifts
This is a very sad video. Sad and true
i liked the pyramid! tudors invented tennis as well as playing cards (minor arcana, egyptian mysticism). tudor, tutu as in tutakharmen, the son of akhenaten. around that time in egypt was the start of many aristocratic traditions we see today, such as monotheistic dogma.
Yeah he looked pretty mean at first
Keep wombling freely ...
So me 'n' Babs start watching this, and we're both like 'oh, here he goes. He's only gonna say the Wombles are high ranking Freemasons now!'
I actually am beginning to think you're right about those Wombles! Or at least that they're a metaphor for the very British penchant of 'making good use of the things that they find'. Things like your Cleopatra's Needle, along with the many many things that have been 'found' during our time the Empire went around the world helping people and building railways in their countries and such like.
So, there you have it. The Needle was Wombled with 'great patriotic zeal'
There great great grandfarthers probably killed someone to get the land. But i bet if we turned up with an army and said we want to fight you for your land the cops would turn up and say theres a law saying you cant do that.lol
...i'll take a guess... you bought a Sony?!
omegalast800 a phoney actually
Swifts.
Wombles of Wimbledon are apparently common?
Get some supplements, we all need some breathing in so many chemtrails and the radiation ofcourse.
Did Sam die at the battle for Wimbledon Common ? Or not :)
wombles. where are all of the wombles.
the forest of dean is the only place where ppl are allowed to have sheep and collect wood etc in modern times...
that i know of...
theyre not governed by normal laws ...goes back to iron age times ...
something like that anyway...
but u have to be born of one of a small number of families...
:(
the music is scary...
I too, find anything without a sequenced pounding beat, scary.
Philip Glass or Michael Nyman? Either way very Koyaanisqatsi
Rabbits Birds and Horses....but no Wombles
nice bunnies
I dont like it. Bring back the old one.
go away.....
Get a haircut man!
que pongo .He's going bald mate...not exactly an encouragement to get an 'aircut.
@@tedtedster8644 he isn’t going bald
08:17 Well fuck that shit :D
