The Russian born chap makes the most even keeled, non-emotional, and sound point. If “English” means “originates from England,” then an increases ratio of foreign born persons will, by definition, make England less English. That can positively or negatively influence culture. When I was a child, English fare still suffered indirectly from the effects of rationing. Everyone universally agreed that English foot was pretty awful. London now has the most diverse food in the entire world and one can find excellent food on every corner. It’s less English, but it’s much better. But there’s another side to that coin. Not every culture values women as equals. The Middle East comes to mind, as many Middle Eastern cultures treat women as chattel. When persons identifying with those values emigrate to the UK, that will have a negative effect on the net appreciation of gender equality unless those persons reject the values of their native countries. If these points can be contended, I’d love to hear it.

Why is it that the ‘British’ black woman always mentions the slave trade? I’ve never heard a true British subject ever mention it in idle conversation. The question was is London less English? I don’t recall if the slave trade that ended over 200 years ago is very relevant. It just highlights the obvious differences between the indigenous British and the migrants. Adil, you’re a disgrace. If you consider yourself British, stop attacking and start defending the country that took you and your descendants and fellow countrymen in.

Thats a good point, almost all black people in Britain today arent here because they were enslaved and brought here by force. Usually its because their parents or grandparents were very pro empire and wanted to move to the wealthy imperial heartland.

Her being born in England or Scotland doesn't make her English or Scottish; what would make her either English or Scottish is if she had English or Scottish ancestry as these are both ethnic groups and nations (a large body of people united by common descent, history and culture).
