Fishing With a SODA CAN Instead of a Reel? Survival Fishing Method!

  • Today I am fishing with a soda can instead of a fishing reel. This is a survival fishing method for casting without a rod and reel. By spooling line on to a can, I am able to make short casts simply by throwing my float rig out there. The line comes off the can like a reel, only there is no rod. While its not the easiest method to catch fish, I am able to make it work. I catch a fish (sunfish), which was my goal. If this were a matter of survival, I would be happy with anything. Have you ever tried fishing with a soda can instead of a rod and reel? If you wanted to survive, you might need to. #realistic #fishing

i'm from Bulgaria and i fished like this for a couple of years, until the Soviet Union fell apart and fishing tackle became more accessible. Not float though, we always fished on the bottom for carp. We would put two sticks in front of the can and run the line through them and put another stick hanging on the line, and we would watch them. Yeah, i sure do appreciate having Japanese tackle now. I have suffered my way to it.

Thank you for showing the real scenarios. So many others cut to the successes because they don't want to show their failures and mistakes. The truth shouldn't be hidden but embraced so people truly understand the challenges and what they can expect. As always, keeping it realistic for the win.

My first fishing rig was a budwiser can, string, weight and a hook. I remember my dad and uncles teaching me how to swing that line and cast it out. I was probably like 5 or 6yrs old.., so back in like 1988 or 89....thanks for sharing.

Most down to earth video I have seen in a long time. As a kid, I had a similar experience, except that I used an empty spool, some line, sinker and a hook, and fished some rock pools at the beach. Caught a few fish too. As your RUclips site says, keep it realistic 👍👍

Man this video takes me back, scraping anything I could together so me and my cousins could fish our local river. Started out with cans, and then to beer bottles. And onto poles afterwards. Good times. I still bottle fish about once a year for nostalgia sake. Even though I got more rods and reels and lures now than any man should ever need. Haha
