My brother, I have been binge watching your channel and I must say you are amazing. You are one bad ass marine!! I have watched as far back, where you went to Switzerland with Dave Canterbury, and helped with training as an instructor!! I love your channel and content you’ve got my support 110%!!! ❤❤🇺🇸🇺🇸👍🏿👊🏿👊🏿
It's time! I asked you to contact the Fishermen in Louisiana to start feeding the Hungry. You have the contacts to make this happen. I trust your Judgement in this decision you have a wide spread of people that Love you 🙏❤️
Hello I want to say I have not forgotten you. I have been ill but I am better. I'm grzteful.hou are still here. Thank you for keep doing what you do to teach about the great outdoors I appreciate you for that. 1:43
Cool deal! I had my scouts make the last one you did with the clear plastic test tube. They had a great time making them. The parents loved it. The kids caught fish. Great time sir. Thank you for the memories!!!!! 🎉
You ever think your videos inspired one to be more active, "get out in the field, and have some fun" you would say? Well it has. Ive been busy living my best life sober and gettting out in the field. You can look up to someone, have an idol, even at 30 years old, through a screen on a phone. You saved me from a boring life at home with an impending alcohol fueled wreck. This is my peace channel. My feel at home channel. Something i love and relate to. I have no money to give to support this channel but i have a comment i want you to see as one of your fans to make sure your aware your effort doesnt go unnoticed we have learned valuable knowledge on survival yet most of all, my favoirte sayings "thats what im talking about right there" and "look at that bacon frying up there" 3Keep on going Shawn. Many thanks and apologies i havent kept up to date on likes and views as i said im living life not always in front of a screen. God bless to you and forgive any typos on this new garbage phone
Shawn, is there an option of this with say a cane pole type of hobo reel? And a way to sling it out there? If so I haven't seen one! Would be another great first on yt!
You're right about having a way to feed yourself outdoors and making small enough to fit in a backpack or pocket. And how to make a hobo fishing kit. Great job on showing how to make one.👍👍
I like that this sort of thing keeps one busy should one find themselves stuck with nothing to do around a water source. Staying busy is actually a good survival mindset depending on one's circumstance. In the Air Force I was sent to aircrew survival school in Texas as part of my training and this is exactly what we did. I was the only one to catch anything.
Outstanding A.F . That was cool corporal , thanks for sharing , I’m truly gonna have to give this a go . Thank you again for your service 🇺🇸🫡 An passisng along all the knowledge you do.
We made 2 last summer, one short and one that was long enough to use as a walking stick. The walking stick version had to be cast overhand or sidearmed and did really well. We caught fish on both and had a blast! Thank you for your videos!
Hey Shawn, great video as always. I made a few of those with a twist. I use the large size prescription bottles tie my knot on and use 80lb backer line, then attach 6lb mono for my main line for actual fishing as you were doing. Then if I want to target catfish or a larger species I remove the 6lb and tie a hook on the 80lb for the cats and rig it like you did for passive action. And I have enough room in the bottle to keeps assorted hooks, weights, and floats, and swivels. I carrya couple of the auto limb line reels as well for additional passive fishing. I fish alot all over the south and always had good luck with these systems. Thanks again corp.
What a great idea for a project with the grandkids or any kids , tons of fun catching bluegill and for survival of course. I really enjoy your videos no matter what yer doing👍😀
Love 💕 these mid week videos keep them coming I watch all your videos no matter what because you have great content love 💗 from Ohio Irene and god bless
Several small easy to catch fish is a sure way to a full belly...100%. This is survival techniques not trophy fishing. Good video. I don't know how RUclips will like it but field clearing and cooking fish on an open fire would be a cool video.
A few comments. The first is that I always thought the SAK was a gimmick until I saw one used properly. Now I own a proper Victornox and use the items contained all the time. I also love the hobo reel, good stuff. Now the gripe. I never baton wood with a folding knife without it being in a 90 setting. Batoning a folding knife fully extended is asking to break the knife's joint.
I really like your fishing series and I never heard of the hobo reel. I loved the cut out for some tackle. Great project idear too. Thanks for the videos
When I went to Mexico back in about 2010, we was fishing along boat inlet and a little kid about 12 years old came out fishing where we was and was using a plastic Coke bottle to store his line on and would cast out with his other hand. A plastic bottle has a wider base than a stick and will likely allow you to cast further and reel in faster.
Great Video as always. My motto when it comes to fish sizes I'd that, depending on when the last time I ate or how hungry I am will directly effect the size of fish I keep to have for dinner!! Thanks for sharing.
Another awesome educational video Shawn! Thanks for posting! From one USMC Corporal to another, Semper Fi! Thumbs up on this one! 👍👍👍👍 Keep them coming, never boring!
Cool vid! More relevant and _very_ useful information! When baiting larger fish with smaller fish I would suggest using the guts of the smaller fish. The guts have more oil and a more aromatic in the water. I love bluegill - good sweet meat! Gotta catch your last week's video on the on the passive action! Also, Thank You for keeping the quality of your videos to the highest order. You'll come out ahead in the long run. I don't expect to unsub anytime soon! You definitely upped your game by ignoring the haters. Again, good job and looking forward to more super videos!
I'm wondering if basket fishing works in the USA as well as it does here. Place one right and you can get an entire school of sticklebacks. Not much meat on one but when you have 20 or 30 and cook them right it's enough for a day. The baskets are adapted from Australian aboriginal ones. Chord made from nettles and switches from hazel willow or rowan work.
I wonder if it might be better to use a slightly larger branch. If you have a "Scotch Eye" tool you could just bore the hollow out with that and make the plug too. The slightly larger diameter would let you take up the line faster and perhaps give you a higher line capacity too. You can also improvise a bobber using a twig. Good video, keep up the good work!
We have no plan to fish sewage canals near our subdivision. The main catch would be janitor fish, a sort of armour plated catfish. There is debate among the locals on eating that fish. Some Filipinos say "we don't eat those." Others (a minority) tell me they are good if you know how to clean and cook them properly. Our longer rage plan is to practice with our emergency fishing kits, catching skipjack tuns in the South China Sea. We took advantage of assorted diameters plastic of pipe scraps. A lot of new homes under construction in our subdivision and full scrap piles to pick over. A few inexpensive parts, PVC cement and you have a great kit that floats. Heating some scrap pipe to flatten it and cutting circles takes a bit more work but you can make free plugs to glue into the bottom of your project and even fabricate dividers.

I have not gone fishing in about 40 years, but this got me excited to actually go again!
That was hilarious when the woodpecker made noise and you showed the predator!
And all done with a pocket knife! Love it!!
some cant wrap their head around this idea
@@recall5811I agree!
@recall5811 I've seen you do it so many time that I bought that knife!! Love it too!!
Corporal and his Sci-fi! Love it!❤😂😂 and OUTSTANDING VIDEO! THANK YOU FOR YOUR TAKE!

No fishing pole to say you are fishing... excellent Idea !!!

Brings back memories I got mine from my uncle it was a $5.00 cigar tube from the 1920s with a wood plug

These tips are so simple, but difficult to think of without a lot of thought. This goes well with your “7” fishing set up. Thank you.

Bravo corporal, thanks.
This was a very useful video. This system works! Not sure if legal in all states but if in survival emergency, this will work.
Awesome survival fishing video !!!
works like a champ!
I made one of these when I was in scouts. Never caught anything with it though.
Love this one. Can't beat a bit of fishrig.
Looks like a good idea would be to use a cork as both plug and also as float.
In my youth we used somple made cane poles from saplings
i like this type of video thanks
