I just wanted to say thanks! I tried to watch dozens of guides but they just go on about all these tiny advanced details that don't matter to anyone trying to learn the basics and gloss over what matters which you did correctly. We needed to know how to do the basics like change car patters or base color and how to add and play with logos which I now know because of you.
Yep the sponsor blocks are the locations that iRacing puts them on if you add them in their car editor. You can put the tga file in the iRacing car paint file, load up a test session and press Ctrl R to refresh to see a paint as you're working on it.
Thanks for this! I really wish iracing would implement a system like GT Sports livery editor. That is probably one of the best livery editors out there imo and is very straight forward to use.
I was always scared away from making my own livery thinking it was a bit too hard. But after watching this I think I'll have a crack at it. Daniel Ricciardo tribute livery here I come
Photoshop is super simple for the drawing and texture aspect. Just learn some shortcuts and let your creativity handle the rest. You might need to be a little ocd too
Wait, you are color blind, right Will, or am I remembering that wrong? Those wheels are sort of lime green, not gold. Maybe get Jill to dial that in? ;)
Hi Will, You don't have to load the sim each time. Stay in sim. Hit Ctrl+R, wait, hit race, hit back to pit, see your new paint :) You can utilize screen estate by having sim in windowed mode on left, PS on right, file explorer handy too. Checking corrections takes seconds
@@boostedmedia yeah, it goes white, that'd good. Then start Race, wait, come back to pits for replay and it will load. Can't remember the sequence, but it's basically 3 steps to refresh paint. I can find u video where it's shown how it's done
Jump in the car car for a few seconds. Then jump back out. Skip to a point in the replay where your driver is in the car, then every time you hit ctrl R your paint will refresh. If your driver is not in the car, the car will go white.
Hi Will, The Sponsor Blocks in the photoshop file are referencing where the sponsors will be if you apply them in iRacing's paint tool as you mentioned. You should be able to apply sponsors for any car regardless of what series you plan on doing. I imagine the reason why they are greyed out for you is probably to do with the fact that you haven't selected one of the liveries first in the iracing paint shop. My recommendation would be to change the colours in the 3 squares to 3 different colours and then pick a livery on the top right-hand corner. Then the sponsor section should un-grey. Edit: after looking through my cars, I don't have the same problem, even with unpainted cars. Maybe it is to do with the Ferrari itself and the other cars are ok? I've never had this problem.
HI WIll, adobe doesnt give me the option to save as TGA ( adobe 2020 ) - im thinking maybe i started off in the wrong format in photoshop? ( RGB/8 ). is there any way to fix this?
Another tip, always RLE compress your TGA files. It's lossless, so the quality is the same but the file size is roughly 8x smaller then if you leave it uncompressed.
Thanks for this soft intro in PS and Painting WIll! Looking to learn this as I'd like to design my first Racing Team Liv. Maybe not the upcoming 10hr at Atlanta but hey all in due time ;)
is there a way to paint using the wire mesh where you can fill the boxes between and then disable the mesh and have the regions filled or do you HAVE to lasso around the lines and then make a new layer? Would be great if you could paint with the mesh and then touch it up afterwards
Good Morning. First off i wanna start out by saying thank you on the great video. was very informative and helpful as i used this to do my first Livery tonight and made it very easy to understand how to do things and adjust things. I had a question though regarding how to do the wheels in todays setup because i know this was 2.5 years ago when you posted, but when i go from iRacing webage to paint it brings up the game and i cant seem to find the wheels and other options you chose from the website. Thanks
FYI if you dont have "Photoshop" look up "GIMP" software, it's opensource image editing software not as user friendly but just as powerful, free & gets the job done :)
Many thanks for another great video that is an easy step by step process. I now have skins on my cars took longer to install photoshop than it did to get creative following your instruction. Many thanks Will, Keep up the amazing work with the channel.
Super simple I always suggest everyone get photoshop if they are serious about there creativity. Forget gimp. Support the companies that for our whole lives have supported our entertainment.
Hi first of all, thnkyou very much, this help me a lot!!! But i have a problem, the deffault car number is over my custom car number, how i can take out the deffault number and just leave the custom one?
I know all but where is the livery actually in IRacing to select from? I do all and I uploaded it but on iRacing I have no idea which is the one that I need to chose from.
With Trading Paints running it will always default to what’s been uploaded to their cloud. You’d need to close trading paints and manually copy the paints you want to the relevant paint directory for the car. They will be overwritten again next time you load trading paints.
Ok, well I ask because I'm a bit a of a roadblock with trying to get decals to look a certain way. Its mainly a bit of a homage to my dad's old sportsman roadster. Do you or anyone you know in the community know how to do decals like the main one (radar luv) in this pic?
Thanks Will, this video made it easier for me. My iRacing account is dormant at the moment due to my gear, but once I get that fixed I'll be sure to create several skins, might send you a few :-)
Hi there. This was very informative. I am yet to get an account for the game but looking forward to racing against lots of AI's and plan on doing multiple paint jobs for the whole roster. I have a few questions though. If I was to do an Indycar Series using the base Dallara that comes free with the game and create a paint scheme to use for myself. I can understand how to put that on trading paints. But if I wanted to create 20-30 schemes so that I can have a decent AI roster, how does Trading Paints and also the game recognise the file formats given the filenames are car_spec_userid.tga (when you upload)
It’s only copyright infringement if you’re making a profit from it. So Ferrari could come after you for using their logo in your guide. But the normal (non-content creator) racer can rep whatever they want. That said you’re right, I don’t think anyone cares one but with what logo is on a sim car. The only issue I remember was DevilDogGamer was a US Marine and he used the Globe and Anchor in a intro sequence. The USMC gave him a cease and desist m, so he had to change that intro. But that was him actually using their brand as his brand. Not something like just having Glock on his in game pistol or something.
Not familiar with Corel (haven't used it since the early 90s) but as long as it handles layers, can save as PNG or TGA and can open PSD files, it will be fine.
As others have mentioned, GIMP is free and seem to work well. Another one is Paint.Net. It's free, pretty easy to use and handles all the file types needed.
@27:00 you mention the goldish color for the wheels. Well ingame the wheels looked green metallic and in the iracing panel on the color picker wheel it is more green than yellow. Gold would be yellow with a slight move to orange, which is in the opposite side of yellow. Do you really see your wheel color as gold/goldish? Don't want to be rude, just serious. Have you ever done a color blind test? Maybe you have a medical condition seeing colors different.
@@boostedmedia my stepson is colorblind, too. He can't see red at all. Most of the world he sees in dirty yellow and brownish colors. Thanks to this app I have been able to see what he is experiencing every day play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.SeewaldSolutions.ColorBlindnessSimulator

how do you add the carbon fiber? cant figure it out..
Can other people in game see the livery too or just yourself
