    I collected 5 gallons of sap and boiled it down over a fire, took all day and only had enough syrup for two servings of pancakes! I have so much respect for your operation! Thanks for sharing

    Lot of things to watch and do to keep the wheels on the wagon. Massive gallons per man hour, but requires full attention. No room for big mistakes.
    So much different than my little hobby production. Thanks for another great video Nikki.

    Great videos! My wife and I really enjoy watching how your tree to finished syrup operating Flows. We put our syrup in bulk storage containers and bottle or process as needed. Love the "Shanty" Our season here in Central Wisconsin has been so so slow. Stay safe!

    You might want to mention that the reason you monitor the temperature as a proxy for sugar content is that as the syrup gets more concentrated, the boiling temperature goes correspondingly higher. It might be illustrative to stick a thermometer in the other stages in the evapourator pan to show the temp higher in each successive stage. Thanks for the videos, very interesting to see how high-tech the business has become.

    That building is OUTSTANDING! It makes the CDL look small. When are you switching over to steam boiling and what do you use for fuel for that system? Also would love to see the R.O. Room in operation

    We use a painters mixer on the end of a cordless drill to mix the draw off bins. Saves lots of time.

    Short maple season for sure, there was no graduation in cooler temperatures to warm, everything is feeling that….. disease and pest pressure will be high this year….

    I watched my uncle make maple syrup back in the late 1940’s, he’d run the hot syrup through a heavy cloth bag then it would be canned. Not quite the same process today where purity is the highest priority. Thanks for a interesting and informative video.

    Would love to see a diagram of the boiler and the path the sap goes from back to forward as it concentrates to syrup. Obviously can see it when not boiling from side. Thank you

    Love the videos used to live in northern ny and was the "boiler" for our syrup operation boiled lots of syrup with our leader 5x14 wood fired evaporator..... I sure miss it.... Keep the videos coming...

    I milled black birch logs for a client a few years ago. The air was filled with a scent just like birch berry soda. Wonder if anyone has ever tried making syrup from black birch sap?

    I visit a couple nearby that are maple syrup producers and when customers stop into the sugar shanty and see them add the white powder to the syrup, they jokingly tell them that it is Cocaine. Love the maple syrup videos 👍

    You work long hours for sure with no coffee either. Reminds me of the Army.. Great video! Impressive timber frame building! An electric pressure washer might work well for cleanup. I made the maple wine.. it should be ready to bottle by turkey season. Hang tough

    Love the videos, keep em coming! You might have already explained it but how does the weather and temperature effect the sap? Also I received my order from you guys and It is amazing, this was my first taste of 100% real maple syrup and I will never go back! All I can say is Aunt Jemima is gonna have to step up her game and lose about a hundred ingredients to even be in the same conversation as you guys. If anyone has the means I highly recommend picking some up, it is so choice 👌

    I use DE and it's not white like that, must be the different brands. I LOVE MAPLE SYRUP the good stuff is so expensive in Kentucky

    I'd like to see in detail of how the filters work and what was being pushed out of the framework. I'm visually impaired so it takes me time to see things. I watch things 3 times or usually more to figure out what is going on.

    Great information! Thanks for teaching me a little. Surprised Im not to far from you on the Canuck side across the Rainbow Bridge. Question..so the sap loaded into the large tanks outside goes directly into the evaporator? Where it is then boiled to 222 degrees. I bet it smells wonderful in the sugar shack?? 👍👍👍.     Is the maple syrup season doing better then you expected a few weeks ago? Also it be nice if you could mention the date of the actual date of the filming of the video i know with editing and life many videos come out weeks later

    Stupid question….. can you store the raw sap and boil at a later date? I know you stated previously that you have a FT job in Marketing and you father & brother work FT on the dairy farm. Could you boil for a few hours each night in order to get proper rest?

    Hi Nikki, what do you use for fuel and how can you run out of it? Can the diatomaceous earth be cleaned and reused or is it thrown out? Why do you have to work so late into the night, is it because once you start there is no stoping? It's been enjoyable for me to learn a little about the Maple Syrup business and your way of life. You certainly have to be the best looking Maple Syrup cooker in the business. Thanks....

    How many hours does the typical run time last each day when the sugar shanty is active?
    We know you folks wrap up for the day about the time most of us are 3/4 through a good nights sleep.

      Typically Anywhere from 6-14 hours depending how the sap is flowing!

    I am speculating that due to cost increases such as the fuel oil used to run the evaporator and fuel in the truck to haul the sap and pretty much everything else around costing more, the price of maple syrup is on its way up as well ?

      REAL Maple Syrup is sugar & the darker the grade the more maple flavor! Unless you buy the fake stuff then it’s corn syrup
