Both of them have such beautiful tennis games. So much fun to watch. I think Felix needs to get into the net more and Thiem needs to learn the 2017-2021 Fed backhand where he flattens it out on the rise. He loses too much ground taking all those one handers on his back foot

Shout out to the AO radio commentators who kept proceedings fun despite a VERY long day. This match was yet another insane R1 five setter. Even the seagulls needed them to wrap it up. FAA's flight plan took the long route to victory. Way to not close out the 3rd set TB, let Theme back in, get tight during the 4th set, & almost get broken AGAIN at the start of the 5th. When he gets scared, Felix stops coming to net & takes too much time to serve which then messes him up. He gets too precious under pressure. Sometimes you just have to bulldoze your way through & get it done.

He's a different player when he gets racquet head acceleration on the backhand. I think Felix just needs to relax out there and let his game fly. Forget the expectations and all that. Just swing.

Thiem just has had bad luck with draws and by his own words is a rhythm player, needs to play ALOT of matches win or lose to have that confidence.

does anyone else wish they broadcasted from behind the players sometimes ... instead of static 3/4 birds eye??
i get its easier on the eyes over long periods of time ... but you dont really get a sense of what these players are doing from this view.
you dont get to see what its like trying to return a rafa forehand at your godamn head. or Dani's kick serve out side. you miss the power and speed

Thiem must've passed his apex. He lacks what he used to show: tenacity and perseverance. And he doesn't really seem to enjoy his tennis anymore 😢

1:56 I don't know why tennis replay people still do this.. you guys NEVER show a fault - if a point is won on a second serve you're only ever going to show the second serve; so when you DO show a fault, we KNOW with 100% certainty that it's going to be a double-fault.
I don't care if it's a break point (I guess you HAVE to if it's a match point though) but it's just a waste of highlight time to watch someone fault twice.

He played quite a lot of two-handed backhands in his career, especially in defence. Some of them were even spectacular winners, passing shots. Some two-handers sometimes play a one-handed backhand in defence, Thiem sometimes plays a two-handed backhand in defence. He started as a two-hander and only switched to a one-hander when he was 12, so the shot is still relatively natural for him (when he's rushed).

Thiem actually started with a two-handed backhand before Günther Pressnik, his former coach, re-trained him to a one-hander BH as it fitted his play style and movement better.

Australian Open TV, this video is a disgrace.
Why can't you focus a freaking camera?
The camera was in focus for 25 seconds from 6:10.
Why can't you keep it in focus?
