The real Goat of Tennis ♥
How can you not love Adrian Mannarino?
It’s amazing how far he has come in his career.
Boy been playing better lately. At 35 he is at his highest ever ranking (top 20).
No hair, no sponsor, crazy tension of the strings (10 KG) of the racket, Wilson grip on an old Babolat racket(current model only painted) plays with an old Babolad Pure Aero, now out of production. Realizing that he was on the edge, he even made a appeal on Twitter, asking if anyone had any frames to sell him, while his colleagues change racket with each ball change, he uses the same frame even in five-set matches.
The last brand to wear it was Italian Hydrogen, but for a couple of years he started wearing supermarket t-shirts again.
A series of oddities that make it unique.
Mannarino reminds me of a father of 3 children having fun and showing the world that anything is possible.

But then we need some more fun and some special personalities in this game to make it exciting. Right. The way he handled that question asked by some idiot in press conference, I would say - Ben is learning on how to conduct, and 'Mark My Words'- He will soon become 'Big Ben'. 5:52 that's amazing. "Mannarino finally winning one of the cat and mouse points". Mannarino is brilliant at cat and mouse points. its amazing to me that shelton was able to get the better of him so many times. Shelton really has an amazing sense and feel around the net. its such a shame his forehand just doesn't match up with what he brings to the table. amazing serve. amazing volleys. amazing athleticism and fitness. but he just doesn't have that oppressive heavy topspin forehand that can help him push his opponent back and open the way forward to net from a neutral rally position. anytime he has a little bit of time on the ball with his forehand, he just flattens it out. too many errors that way, and prevents him from leveraging one of the things that makes him special. but then again, when I see him make an effort to hit with more topspin, he ends up hitting these super slow loopy moonballs. I don't know if its a grip issue, or a technical issue...or just stupid shot selection, but he seems incapable of producing that mixture of heavy topspin and pace that all the best forehands seems capable of producing from a neutral rally position.

People underestimate Mannarino. I have seen him in practice live. He is a very crafty player with excellent footwork and always hits the ball in the middle of the racquet. He won’t give a point away, you have to earn it with power and precision which means a lot of unforced errors will happen for the opponent if his game is not on. Mannarino almost beat Federer twice, once in Basel on Federer’s home turf and once at Wimbledon (Roger’s last Wimbledon) where he Mannarino got injured or else he had a great chance for a first round upset.

The stuffiness of tennis historically is outdated! And that’s the same in many sports like golf, traditionally a sport for the wealthy whites….thank goodness it’s changing. If it wasn’t for some of these brash players of today and the past, the sports wouldn’t generate the revenue that it does. From John McEnroe, Becker, Serena, Alcaraz, Shelton and definitely a few others, this sport wouldn’t have the amount of sponsors and fans. I like Shelton but definitely have no problems with Adrian winning, he will teach you many lessons….I’m sure Shelton has learned many, and was gracious in defeat.

Mannarino exposed Shelton's lack of...and cumbersome movement. He used Shelton's power against him with superior ball striking and anticipation. Another rollercoaster of a match with really dramatic swings in momentum from Ben. He won 9 of 11 games from the start of the second set up to 3-1 in the third set and was almost toying with Mannarino during that point, and then became too casual and barely hung on to eventually play a strong third-set tie-break. Afterwards, he never got back to that form, and just let Mannarino dictate too many of the points. It was a very entertaining match, especially the third set, but Shelton really needs to find some way of staying consistently near his best tennis during a match, as this was a wasted opportunity to face Djokovic once more, and that's when you learn the most about the weaknesses in your game.
