A couple years ago I saw Gasquet hit the hardest one-handed backhand I've ever seen. I still think he's got the most elegant one-handed backhand in the game. He's clearly not the player he was a few years ago but still a joy to watch. Alcaraz looks to be in fine form, so this should be an interesting AO.

Carlito played with more finesse here with his drop shots. May be what he’s been missing lately. I wish he would do more of that in his big matches as he used to. So effective and smart!
He overused the drop shot and has been getting burned on them. He has great touch but people have figured out some tells when he does it and he is losing a lot more of those points than if he just played the point from the baseline.

I remember when he was serving for the match against Djokovic at Wimbledon, he missed a dropshot, and then immediately he did another dropshot, which worked. Alcaraz has so many weapons in his arsenal, it's just he should cut it down a bit and be very aware when to use his other weapons. With that said, much easier said than done, he's only 20 years old, he'll figure it out as he plays Djokovic, Sinner, Rune, Medvedev, etc.
Tricky 1st round matchup for Carlos, Gasquet is not the player he once was but is a savvy vet that knows what it takes to play in majors and top caliber players. Kudos to him in a tough match, + his backhand is a thing of beauty and grace.
He's the same actually. He's never been a threat. Good but not great. Top 20 at his peak but not enough to challenge the very best. Not enough power and tactical isn't up to par plus not enough weapons.
I like the dropshots against Gasquet. Even if he gets to it, it's wearing him down running to the net vs side to side where he loves to camp out. Quite a few dropshots were out right winners.
That Gasquet backhand is pure murder! What a joy to watch in action. And to see Carlos finding an escape from it again and again is simply beyond words…
As someone with terrible skin genetics that has struggled with keeping acne under control for most of my life, I'm happy for Alcaraz! His skin looks a lot better. As silly as it may sound, that actually could give him confidence and improve his tennis (even though he's generally had a strong mental game already). It definitely makes shaving more pleasant!
He is a class player...If he could have kept the same level as he did in the first set...Match could have been closer..He is 35 plus..his legs got heavy..Another Gentleman player once in the top 10...and well 8:19 respected in the circuit

Alcaraz is a beast. In best shape of any men's player . Killer ground strokes. Add the drop shots which are cruel n punishing. When does he play the Joker?
Gasquet played a quality first set, he's had one of the nicest one-handed backhands over the years on the ATP tour, just lacks the mental fire and intensity of a Nadal to win more matches. He was actually attacking the ball in the first set, which was nice to see as opposed to the looping topspin and massaging of the ball as he frequently does!
Vamos Carlos! Serves have improved, unforced errors have reduced and playing style is not as aggressive as last year especially in the first set. He is taking his time to get in the groove. Now just focus on maintaining the composure for the rest of the tournament

Once the Conquistador won the first set TB, it became an exhibition match. Casket was professional to play at a high level despite the beatdown. I was more focused on the Zverev & Sonego matches. Those were fire battles deserving of RL Arena!
In his age, Gasquet can still win matches against younger players. It is just sad that he was matched with Alcaraz in the first round. I hope he will continue to play in future tournaments.

In the era of Big 2 (until 2010s) and then BIg 3 (beginning 2011+), lot of players couldnt realize their potential. Del Potro another one.
