    When Waymo is faced with a tight squeeze, unlike humans it knows precisely how wide it is and precisely how wide the gap is, and after a pause it can proceed. When it encounters wandering pedestrians it's understandably cautious, but a human driver might be a little more assertive. I've watched many Waymo videos from other contributors, and I appreciate that they show a continuous trip that includes the good, the bad and the ugly. They do not edit out the awkward parts. Overall, I continue to be impressed with Waymo's ability to navigate safely under trying circumstances.

      Thanks for watching! I have a few full-ride videos (find them here: ruclips.net/p/PL1MEmcW5Ub_zs1aS16m4Dv8pLhB6toQB9), but the stats show that viewers like interesting clips best. I do not edit out awkward parts per se, but tend to highlight them! Frankly, there have been few 'ugly' experiences, and most of them ended up being recorded and posted!
      I also have a video highlighting narrow streets you might like: ruclips.net/video/LInDo1A0J4I/видео.html
      The Waymo Driver has increased assertiveness over the 2+ years I have been riding. It is amazing to be a part of and watch/feel the changes!

      @@mayasf Thanks for the URLs. I've watched Waymo over the past couple of years and can see how they have refined the programming. I'm especially impressed with San Francisco, where there are so many narrow streets, so many awkward intersections, so many pedestrians, bike riders and scooter riders, and so much traffic! The media leaps on the few instances where Waymo had to stop and ask for human help, but I know some human drivers that would become befuddled even more easily. Tesla can handle unmapped driving, but they make mistakes, too. And I seem to recall that Tesla stopped testing their cars in San Francisco.

      @@Bobrogers99 I can't speak much to what Tesla is doing, but their systems are assistants so far, while Waymo operates with no human driver quite successfully. It is remarkable to experience, and I am grateful for my time as a Trusted Tester and as a regular public rider.
      I definitely agree that SF is a challenging place with the hills and narrow streets and the different types of traffic! Even after all this time, there are moments when I find myself saying, "Why are we slowing down??" only to notice that the Waymo Driver has detected a pedestrian I did not notice!
      The tech is suspicious or scary to a lot of people, but I appreciate that you are watching and learning. Thanks for your interest, I still have so many great moments I need to publish!

    Damn that's crazy busy.....you never get crowds that big in oz, unless there's free beer on offer somewhere ;)
    I'd go bonkers driving through that lot, but Waymo seemed to handle it all no problem mainly.....though you did cut the juicy bit when it became a bit of a madhouse.
    Nooo don't 'hide' the warts....the Good, the Bad and THE Ugly :)
    Amazing tech, the Jetsons are getting ever closer......

      Yes, I did cut out a little bit. I wish there was a way to send things to subscribers only. Here is an extended version of that segment (it is unlisted, so anyone can see it). There is not that much more. The Waymo Driver was calm but I was tense :) ruclips.net/video/03rKJfLHZ0U/видео.html

    I'm not going to be comfortable until the Waymos learn to honk and scream profanities at other cars/pedicabs.

    • @mayasf
      @mayasf  Год назад +2

      WaymoPlatinum members have access to in-vehicle audio simulating human-driven ride services. Options include honking, screeching tires, and impropriety. For an extra fee, one gets the smell of smoke.

    Any (normal) human would figure that the stop for the emergency vehicle at 8:15 was not necessary. Don't get me wrong, this tech is amazing but an unnecessary stop like that can cause a rear end and the fault is with Waymo.

    • @mayasf
      @mayasf  9 месяцев назад +1

      It may not have been necessary to you, but it is the law to pull to the side, even on a divided street where the emergency vehicle could have been turning in front of us!

    Can you sit in the driver's seat?

    • @mayasf
      @mayasf  Год назад

      It is potentially dangerous to touch any car controls and a serious no-no- sitting in the driver's seat - without full knowledge of operations is not allowed. I do like the front passenger seat though!

    • @mayasf
      @mayasf  9 месяцев назад

      Yes. Waymo has an app and you call a vehicle to where you are. In this video, I was in a shopping area. In certain markets, Waymo operates just like Lyft, Didi Chuxing, or Uber.
