The forward and back action seemed to indicate Waymo's confusion, but just when it looked like it had worked out what to do, the humans confused it again. "Roadside assistance" is well-meaning but not terribly efficient.
What are you talking about ??? Car was stuck 3 times, of course Waymo support should call you.... If not people would say Waymo experience is awful....
@@JJRicks You should just have asked them then but right now they are in beta testing phase so it's their priority to fix the issues than letting people filming it in peace. They are spending billion $ for something at the end of the day.
Waymo just dropped a video about driving on highways. I commented about whether the cars will drive at the speed limit. I was wondering what your thoughts were about this JJ? "Will Waymo drive the speed limit on highways? With traffic regularly going 80mph, a car actually driving the speed limit may be unsafe."
@@JJRicks Sounds right and also the lawful thing to do. BTW, I'm concerned about road rages exhibited toward Waymos. Please highlight this with term "road rage" whenever its remotely applicable in your videos. I think most people wrongly think having Waymo means we won't have road rage. This is actually wrong. Instead, we'll have no rage only when we get rid of all the human drivers. Before then, we might have more road rage than ever, including road rage exhibited toward Waymos. For example, many human drivers cutting Waymos off in heavy traffic. Jaywalkers purposely walking in front of Waymos (including on highways), because they expect them to stop. JJ, how are you going to like it when some crazy young man feigns walking in front of your Waymo traveling at 65 mph and induces it to slam on the brakes? Same with something like a deer or a dog or a racoon (maybe standing on its hind legs) enters the road directly in front of your Waymo traveling at highway speed. Are Waymos going to distinguish these from adults and kids? Or will they slam on the brakes because they can't tell the difference? And when they do, is your Waymo going to get rear-ended by a sleepy human driver going 80 mph? I'm guessing you'll risk it for us no matter what I say, but please spread the word that these choices aren't easy. They endanger both innocent Waymo riders (like you), and the crazy people (probably mostly young men) that will do this stuff. I hope I'm wrong, but it seems like it must be happening already, and it might get a lot worse, before it gets better.
How are you going to link this video and say that it matches what FSD V13.2 is doing? I mean, it technically did the turn but then got horribly stuck the majority of the video. If the Tesla you test in is yours, you will probably have to upgrade to experience V13 since it doesn't seem likely HW3 owners will be getting it. I would love to see some more Waymo vs. FSD destination races.
I feel like the support call was very pushy, I get that they are just trying to make sure everything is good but when you say "No thanks I'm fine." They should back off at that point, I'd rather deal with the confused Waymo car vs the pushy support person.
I'm going to be very weird because I don't have Waymo where I am. If it was me, I'd absolutely hate that I can't just hop in the driver seat and fix it. I completely get why I can't do that but I'd still hate it.
The cars doing weird shit and you just sit there? I’d be out of there! Mind you, thinking about it, you wouldn’t get me in one. How can you be so calm. That is just going back and forth. Will you be so calm when it turns onto the highway and starts doing weird stuff?
its problem solving logic is not great. you might say it had one job. they've been at this for 20 years, it's like the last 10 they were just phoning it in... badumtisch :)
@@JJRicks Hah! You'll know when Waymo has achieved full economy, when their support is almost incomprehensible. Instead of sending human drivers to get you out of a jam, they ask you open the recessed area of the trunk and help them upgrade the firmware on the Waymo computer or replace some parts in the back (power supplies and SSDs) with new ones dispensed from the glove box.
That was super uncomfortable and also interesting! I wish the silly humans would just let the robot do its job and not interfere! Lol

If it's that slow in specific small service areas, I can't imagine it being any better for the whole city or intercity travel
The assistance operator wasn’t the sharpest pencil in the drawer. It seems she exacerbated the situation …
Such interesting real world Insights! Thanks mate and thanks to your patreons 🎉
I agree getting a random support call kills the experience. I know Waymo watches these videos. Hope they take the advice and let people ride.

Yup, I think so. Every time I see them on the freeway they nail 65. Probably just going to stick to the right lane
There was one behind me on the 101 freeway in Chandler AZ today. It was going about 65. First time I seen them on the freeways.

Very interesting experience, I’m surprised they didn’t just “pull over” or disable the car as soon as they sent roadside.
11:00 omg why call roadside assistance? Rider Support can be so annoying. Basically getting punished for testing the platform.
As a "just in case" measure, I believe

Do we know if the person talking on the phone is the same person remotely controlling the cars movements?
