Great video, Thank you! :) I did follow your guide as I have a WMR headset. But after setting up the oculus/revive, the games was not added to my steam library as the instructions said it would automatically do at 16:23. I can launch them from the ReviveOverlay though. However it gave me lag in the HMD but not on the computer screen. Probably didnt set it up right? Also I want to point out that I think its great you show of the simplicity of setting up a WMR headset and the features it has, rather then the complex setup of base stations. I hope more people gets their eyes on WMR now that the price is so low and quality is comparable to vive/oculus. hopefully it can finally become abit more mainstream. You can easily find used sets in new condition for 160$ on amazon right now! (I'm not joking!) Same goes for Vive and Oculus headsets if someone would like to get one of those HMDs. :) Never been cheaper getting a WMRset + controllers as it is now. Hopefully this info can help inform others as it made me purchase one, and I dont regret it at all! ;) All VR has their pros and cons and I believe each individual has their own pref when it comes to VR atm, but I can also recommend Windows Mixed Reality due to its simplicity and price. And once again thanks for the great informational video!
Hey, did you fix the lag issue? I'd check for the latest windows version and latest update for Revive. On my home PC I can launch them also from overlay but not from steam, but I did not have the lag, but I still have some old revive, so I am thinking it is up to the revive version. Sorry for delay, I found your comment in the spam, probably filtered because mentioning Amazon and dollar sign. I hope more people get on WMR, and VR in general, as software and game devs need motivation to start investing time into VR, and that it will be good for everyone.
Too cheerful and too much information with text and voice. And you cannot "Accept" anything with voice, so you end up yelling "accept... aksept, yes..." like a fool when "she" is not even listening. Most people will probably think it is broken.

Gavin hello, I am on the same road with you and I have my dell visor coming in on Thursday and I’m really excited to have a budget and good virtual reality headset for only 200$. I’m hoping it works as planned.
No, this is HP headset. Laptops don't have enought USB ports for Oculus Rift, and Rift is low resolution. I have written down in the video laptop and specs
my laptop doesnt have a hdmi port? and its a gaming laptop to my knowledge, is there anywhere I can find a port for it? or is it not required? I also have USB 3.0 but it isnt communicating with the port properly... sorry if my questions seem dumb but im new to vr and this techy stuff entirely
I like the idea virtual reality- for this reason practice use like learning to drive car/ busses and school busses police training etec I know there's more
Depends on your budget and what you want to do with it. Best HP Reverb, then Samsung Odyssey Plus, then any other Windows Mixed Reality Headset, which you can find under $200.
So I have the Acer nitro 5 laptop and it says oculous ready so what should I buy like does the oculous rift s work with it and what are the best headphones
Will this over heat? Will it work for oculus quest 2? And also can it run really realistic maps in vr chat? What Hp laptop is that? And one last question. How much money is it?
It doesn't overheat. I use it or hours at a time, but for the same money you will be able to get a desktop computer with better performance. You can find the specs of the laptop in the video but for current prices you should search. This is now an old laptop and there are much better ones today.
Question, would i be able to get into sim racing with this laptop rather than a desktop? with a steering wheel setup and VR as well? Could this laptop handle all of this ?? Or would any laptop be ok as long as I'm running gtx1060 or higher?
Well this one has GTX1080 so it runs well, and more or less the same as comparable desktop, but, the fans will run like a jet engine as you cannot have cooling as good as on a desktop computer
Exit what? WMR portal? You can open a desktop app in WMR and click to the game's play button on steam. But I rarely do that. WMR portal is useless for me so I just launch games directly from Steam on Desktop

Thanks for the video. I have a Nitro 5 laptop with 16gb ram, and the Samsung odyssey--My question is how do I view on the laptop while someone is playing in the headset? I heard lots of "answers" but nothing has worked yet. Thanks
If you know your model's specs you can check if they satisfy minimum requirements on oculus site support.oculus.com/248749509016567/ for both rift and rift-s
Yes, it works on all recent windows versions. You can play Minecraft VR by installing version from the Microsoft Store. I think you can use it with other versions but it will launch through SteamVR
for some reason some people comparing the hp with the lenovo and other headsets r saying that the hp has noticeably less fov....... but other people r saying that it's actually good fov and for some reason in their website they mention that with a non "ultra pc" the fov is 90 and with ultra pcs it's 100 I know about video cards with hdmi 1.4 running it at 60hz and with hdmi 2.0 running it at 90hz but the fov stuff is just weird ......... what are your impressions of the fov
Any idea like Google Earth VR wont work? Nothing is displayed in the headset it only shows a preview on the desktop. Every other VR app your steam the are and windows mixed reality works except for this, any ideas for a fix?
No idea, sorry. I have installed it on at least 20 different machines, and Google Earth VR just worked. I did install Steam version, not the one from Oculus Store. Also, don't forget Windows Mixed Reality for SteamVR - search for it on Steam Store. You will need fast internet connection once you make it work, so plug in ethernet cable instead of using WiFi
I have even ran this headset on 2014 5th gen intel laptop with integrated graphics, but that is not what you would want to do. Make sure your laptop has nvidia graphics (GTX965 at least or equivalent AMD card) and HDMI 2.0 or higher, otherwise headset will run at 60Hz instead of 90Hz. The 60Hz is OK for monitor, but when it gets so close to your eyes, at 60Hz you will see flicker which makes is really uncomfortable, and 90Hz is what you want. Graphic card related, look at VR games and see their minimum specs to get the idea if you laptop graphics will have decent performance. Intel 8th gen CPU does have GPU on board that should be able to power VR, but you will be limited with what kind of games you will be able to run on it.
I have tested Fallout4VR on 980Ti with new WMR reprojection and it was better than the same machine with 1080ti with Steam VR reprojection. Some things are still wobbly but it cannot be perfect
Why? I installed a new laptop for WMR just yesterday and paring was instant. I have not done the process in a few months and now the controller pairing was different than on video but again no issues. Used it with HP Reverb headset and Dell controllers
I recommend a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 TI if you are a cheap gamer like me, that will most likely get you around 60 FPS at least, and a moderate graphics card could be a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660. Hope this helps!
You probably can, but press Win key and type Portal to open Windows Mixed Reality Portal. It will check your hardware if it is VR compatible. But that is for Windows Mixed Reality headsets like HP Reverb or Samsung Odyssey Plus. Laptop most likely doesn't have enough USB ports for Oculus Rift, and that one is too old anyway
Acer laptop? All headsets work with it if minimum specs. You can run Windows Mixed Reality portal in Windows 10 to check if it satisfies docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/mixed-reality/enthusiast-guide/windows-mixed-reality-minimum-pc-hardware-compatibility-guidelines
Don't know about oculus, but any WindowsMR headset works as long as you have graphic card with WDDM 2.2 driver. Open Mixed Reality Portal from start menu (search) and it will tell you if your hardware supports it. Oculus Rift CV1 requires 4 free USB 3.0 ports for 3 cameras and one for the headset, so you would need a hub but I cannot say that it will work with it without issues, as there might not be enough bandwidth. You also need HDMI 2.0 or DP 1.2 port
See when I got to the part with the crystal in the middle my controllers didn't pop up even though they are paired on the PC. to top it off it only lets me use mouse and keyboard in the room in the portal. I've tried to reset the app and uninstall it to try and do the whole process over but nothing is working, I've tried removing and repairing the controllers to the PC and that doesn't do anything I checked in the portal settings to try and completely delete and reset everything and that didn't do anything, I've looked all over youtube and on forums for help and it looks like no one else has had this issue so I'm completely lost on wtf to do and am very pissed off that this product I've spent $300+ on is being this annoying.
Deleting controllers from Bluetooth devices and maybe from Device Manager, and pairing them again should fix the issue. I did once have that issue and it took me an hour to fix it
Quest is standalone and you don't need a computer to run VR experiences. You can connect them to PC with USB-C cable but I think that feature is still in beta. I have one at work but I have not had a chance to test it yet, and due to this Corona outbreak it will not be anytime soon
Sorry, don't know about rift. If you game through SteamVR, there is a mirror option in dropdown, and on this WindowsMR from the video you just press Play button in the portal to show whatever user is seeing
I don't know if "aculos" was intentional but spanish speakers have probably found it funny. It should work with Oculus but you need 3 free USB3 ports for cameras and headset, and one HDMI. Forget about carrying your setup around with so much parts and cables
"DOES IT WORK ON ______?" A: Press Start button and search for Mixed Reality Portal app (preinstalled) and it will do a hardware check for you and tell you if it work on your laptop. It will show you this screen: ruclips.net/video/iXFrFqJsYpg/видео.html with checkboxes for each of your hardware components
If I plug in my WMR headset, my TV has to be unplugged, so I can’t see the screen. It’s the only plug that works. I don’t know what to do, it doesn’t display anything on the WMR so I can’t get past the room setup. Please help!!
uuu, that is a nice laptop! It depends on how much money you want to spend, what type of games you like to play, and now soon do you want it. Edit: and it also depends on your IPD (check your prescription if you have one), and size of your head
I can’t setup my boundaries the dot is always red even under well lit conditions , if I hold it at a very certain position I pass by the center part but then if I move one inch away during the tracing it loses track again , any idea what the problem is ?
I don't know, maybe the wall is completely flat white and there is nothing to track, maybe you use fluorescent lights that flicker at high rate, or similar LED lights, maybe your headset cameras are dirty, maybe you are too close to the wall on the starting point...
Tech Guy nah turned out to be a faulty headset and I returned it , I used the flashlight app in the windows portal and one of the cameras was constantly turning on and off so it was a defect , thanks anyways !
my problem is that my computer keeps saying windows 8 and apparently I updated to windows 10 and everything else seems fine but I cant run my Lenovo explorer due to a lil window that says "windows 8 detected" I cant use it to play any games
This is the HP headset. The HTC Vive is lower resolution, than this one (even HTC Vive Pro is lower resolution than HP, Acer, Samsung Odyssey, Dell or Asus headets), but HTC has better tracking of controllers if you play high motion games. The bad thing is that HTC Vive also requires you to mount somewhere the "lighthouses" at 2m height and opposite corners of the room (but not more than 5m apart). HTC Vive is also heavier. We have HTC Vives at work but it is pain in the neck to setup, especially if you don't want to have them permanently mounted.
If you made your computer and you did not put in the confirmation code your windows will count as counterfeit and the headset driver's will not install

Well this one has GTX1080 so it runs well, and more or less the same as comparable desktop, but, the fans will run like a jet engine as you cannot have cooling as good as on a desktop computer
@@Tech-Guy ahh I see. Thank you for the reply!
well that all sound great but I did that and question is how do you exit so you can click on a steam game
Exit what? WMR portal? You can open a desktop app in WMR and click to the game's play button on steam. But I rarely do that. WMR portal is useless for me so I just launch games directly from Steam on Desktop
My laptop is a asus core i3 7th gen is it good? Will it be compatible
God so many things to do
ALL I WANT TO KNOW IS HOW DO U GT THOSE CONTROLLERS, EVERYTIME I LOOK UP THE CONTROLLERS IT POPS UP AS A STRAIGHT CONTROLLER WITHOUT THE CIRCLE THING ON TOP, IM SO CONFUSED WHAT AM I MISSING
Are you confusing "Vive Controllers" with "Windows Mixed Reality Controllers"
Thanks for the video. I have a Nitro 5 laptop with 16gb ram, and the Samsung odyssey--My question is how do I view on the laptop while someone is playing in the headset? I heard lots of "answers" but nothing has worked yet. Thanks
Press |> play button on WMR portal... or dropdown menu in SteamVR there should be a option mentioning "mirror"
We got same laptop
hey i got a question.
Can u install a Oculus Rift on a Medion Akoya P6670??
its a i5 windows 10
pls answer
If you know your model's specs you can check if they satisfy minimum requirements on oculus site support.oculus.com/248749509016567/ for both rift and rift-s
i buy dell headset for 155 on blackfry day 2019 but how to get steam to work id ont get it
It is all in the video. You need SteamVR installed, also search for Windows Mixed Reality in Steam and install it
does it work on windows version 1809? and can u play minecraft vr using this method? 2 questions respond to them plz
Yes, it works on all recent windows versions. You can play Minecraft VR by installing version from the Microsoft Store. I think you can use it with other versions but it will launch through SteamVR
It's compatible with non gaming acer or normal?
Press Start and search for Mixed Reality Portal app (preinstalled) and it will do a hardware check for you
for some reason some people comparing the hp with the lenovo and other headsets r saying that the hp has noticeably less fov....... but other people r saying that it's actually good fov
and for some reason in their website they mention that with a non "ultra pc" the fov is 90 and with ultra pcs it's 100
I know about video cards with hdmi 1.4 running it at 60hz and with hdmi 2.0 running it at 90hz but the fov stuff is just weird
......... what are your impressions of the fov
I can play any game on steam that supports mixed reality?
what oculus is the best for laptop
Will this run on any laptop, or does it require a VR Ready Laptop?
How is reprojecton on wmr headset? I know beta wasnt goo but did they improve it?
I have tested Fallout4VR on 980Ti with new WMR reprojection and it was better than the same machine with 1080ti with Steam VR reprojection. Some things are still wobbly but it cannot be perfect
21:55 jeez you have so much apps what the hell were you downloading
Hehe :) I tested a lot of VR games and other experiences. I have about 130 in the steam library
Hello guys is a lenovo 530 with i7 Intel core 1000 dollar good enough?
But ho,w Windows Mixed Reality works fine without issues on Oculus store using revive
that pairing controller thing has taked me like 2-3 hours
Why? I installed a new laptop for WMR just yesterday and paring was instant. I have not done the process in a few months and now the controller pairing was different than on video but again no issues. Used it with HP Reverb headset and Dell controllers
So what VR is this I’m getting a VR I want a oculus quest or rift S do they work on the nitro 5?
Check the minimum specs for those. This is HP 1st gen WindowsMR headset which was later replaced with HP Reverb, and a new one is announced.
Tech Guy thanks
i got a windows 10 laptop what graphics card do you recommend?
I recommend a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 TI if you are a cheap gamer like me, that will most likely get you around 60 FPS at least, and a moderate graphics card could be a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660. Hope this helps!
JacInTheBox thanks I think I’ll get a 1660 then
I use MSI GF63 Gaming Laptop, i5,-9300h, Nvidia GTX 1650, 8GB ram and I wonder if it can run VR games such as Beat Saber and VRchat. Plz respond 🙏
@@Tech-Guy got it! Thanks
❤️❤️❤️❤️
are there any vr headsets working with acer?
Acer laptop? All headsets work with it if minimum specs. You can run Windows Mixed Reality portal in Windows 10 to check if it satisfies docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/mixed-reality/enthusiast-guide/windows-mixed-reality-minimum-pc-hardware-compatibility-guidelines
Vr headset work on any pc?
I want to order an Vr oculus rift but i scare if i cant use it on my laptop
I did once have that issue and it took me an hour to fix it
bruh you gotta do sooo many things i was planning to buy a vr headset but i needed a tv too so uh
Wait can we use Oculas Quest? Im just a bit confused
Quest is standalone and you don't need a computer to run VR experiences. You can connect them to PC with USB-C cable but I think that feature is still in beta. I have one at work but I have not had a chance to test it yet, and due to this Corona outbreak it will not be anytime soon
Witch kind of laptop did you use
How can I mirror rift output to big screen tv /( monitor ) from laptop?? plzz plzz rply..
Sorry, don't know about rift. If you game through SteamVR, there is a mirror option in dropdown, and on this WindowsMR from the video you just press Play button in the portal to show whatever user is seeing
Surendra Kc buy a real desktop
I wish i have vr to play roblox :(
I can give you recommendations??
Will aculos rift work on my asus notebook g751jy it has gtx 970 i7 24 ram
Please help!!
kid if you only have one hdmi get an adapter
U have a vga cable right use that as the display cable
what vr head set would i have to buy to use with my dell g7?
uuu, that is a nice laptop! It depends on how much money you want to spend, what type of games you like to play, and now soon do you want it. Edit: and it also depends on your IPD (check your prescription if you have one), and size of your head
Are those middle batteries or Large Batteries?
AA (standard, not the AAA small ones for remote)
Can I use a Dell labtop to use this?
@@mohamedzain5388 That was a good way to find the issue. I have learned something, thanks for the update!
my problem is that my computer keeps saying windows 8 and apparently I updated to windows 10 and everything else seems fine but I cant run my Lenovo explorer due to a lil window that says "windows 8 detected" I cant use it to play any games
Never heard of this issue. Do a clean install of Windows 10 and just follow the steps from this video. I did this on 20 computers without any issues
Can I use a Acer Aspire 3 laptop to run Oculus Rift S?
If you know your model's specs you can check if they satisfy minimum requirements on oculus site support.oculus.com/248749509016567/
is steam vr compatible with the hp scarlet laptop with intel Pentium silver n5000 prosesor
Can you do this on mac?
Is that HTC ? Also I have windows 10 wich one do I get the normal one or HTC ?
@@Tech-Guy thank you so much for the information!
Do I have to plug the hdmi and USB together?
You need both - the order doesn't matter
What Is your headset your using?
This is HP first generation
I been having a problem that my steamvr say that my headset is not conected i have a windows mixed reality and I need help by solving that problem
If Mixed Reality portal is working, then reinstall SteamVR and reinstall "Windows mixed reality" for steamVR in the steam library
mine apparently doesnt wanna download or connect at all, any advice?
Not enough info. Error or not, shown in Device manager, what happens when you open Portal, using adapters or not...
Can you put laptop link in description
Can i play vrchat with only the oculus?
work in windows 11 laptop xp?
He doesn’t realy have to do all this he could just play be chat from there when he gets to the windows homer then just launch it from there
will this work on an acer nitro 5 laptop or whatever?
Press start, type Portal and let it check your hardware config
by any chance can this laptop support htc cosmos
There should be some minimum hardware requirements on the HTC page; I wasn't looking into it
where can i get steam???
Search steam then go on the website
Make an acc then download it
Log in the acc and that’s it
If you made your computer and you did not put in the confirmation code your windows will count as counterfeit and the headset driver's will not install
thanks for the heads up, how do you find your confirmation code? or get one
Is in steam VR FNaF Help Wanted?
I have a question i have a very very bad laptop i dont know if my laptop can handle a vr or not
Probably not, but if you have Windows 10, press Win key and type "mixed reality portal" and it will analyze your hardware and see if it VR ready
Questions can u run rv on omen laptop
If you press Start and type Mixed Reality Portal a program will open that will check your hardware specs if the laptop meets the requirements
why soo many problam wtf
