I remember buying my UmareX Makarov from my local big five in 2019. Now, let me tell you I’ve been owning air gun since 2017 and I’ve all of them that if withstood the abuse that younger me put them through that was one of the only BB guns that came out on top and could still fire without any problems, or decrease in performance. The best part about it all is I only got the darn thing for 58 bucks at the time. It’s helped me in time to pass to even put down rats when we were dealing with a rodent infestation at my house back in the day. However, one big flaw that I had with it was because since I got one of the older models, I couldn’t buy any of the newer magazines that were being made so as a result, if that magazine were to fail on me, or if I were to lose it, the gun would be completely inoperable. Recently, I’ve been thinking about buying one of the newer ones. At first I was hesitant because I didn’t want to buy another BB gun. That was the same as what I already had but simply put I feel dead set on making that decision because it’s probably one of the best BB guns I’ve ever owned in terms of the kind of stress, I put it through. Not only that, but if it means I can buy more magazines for a gun that has proven it’s worth and times pass to me then it’s all worth it to me in the end.
That’s all good to hear. I was so happy with the model I bought. It felt great in the hand (weight and balance), was pretty accurate and the power wasn’t too bad for a BB gun. Unfortunately, mine fell out of my shoulder holster onto gravel and hasn’t been the same since. I might have to take it in to the shop for repair, as I really want to continue using it. If you do purchase a newer model, I’m sure you’ll have lots of fun with it. All the best, Jono 😊👍🏼 🔫 🎯
That’s a good review 👍 I have a Baikel made Makarov which I bought 23 years ago. As I understand it, these earlier ones were made at the factory where the originals were manufactured. It’s all metal, including grips and internal CO2 and BB magazine so loading co2 and pellets is different from the Umarex. It’s a great little pistol, weighty, solid and a lot of fun 😁
Thank you very much 😊🙏🏼 The version you have sounds great. I bet it’s a really solid item. I’ll have to keep my eye out for one, although I imagine they are quite hard to find. Unfortunately, my Makarov fell out of my holster and needs repairing, but it was great fun to shoot. All the best 😊👍🏼
Yep, you guys have a good deal there as it's your right to have a gun, unlike here when its a privilege that very few have. In the EU there are even restriction on air guns e.g. in the UK the max power output allowed is 12 ft/lbs. Here in Greece there is no power or caliber limit for air rifles, but you aren't allow to hunt with them, use a scope or a silencer.
That Makarov looks and shoots remarkably well for a smooth bore pistol 🔫 Jono I could tell you where having fun (I bet it feels sold and authentic) being made of metal 👍 What a cracking pistol 👍 Great review Best regards Simon 😊👍
Thank you Simon 😊🙏🏼 It feels great to shoot. The weight of it is very nice in your hand. You can imagine what it might be like to hold the real thing 🔫 Thanks very much mate 🙏🏼 Best wishes, Jono 😊👍🏼
Yes it would have been nice to add a little extra realism with a blowback feature, but I agree with Richard that the power/no. Of shots would be reduced. However, it isn’t a gun you’ll be hunting with, so I’m not sure how much power would matter. The one thing I do like about this gun is that it has a working slide. Maybe it’s a good comprise between a fixed slide gun and a full blowback pistol. 😊👍🏼🔫
@@GreeklishOutdoors of course it will lower the number of shots when gas is used as well elsewhere than propelling the ammunition. But how much does it decrease shot count? Has anyone tested with those models that offers blowback and fixed slide (as i recall seeing some)? And how much is there a difference to precision at 10 meters? And does it really matter considering what is the fixed slide gun precision in first place, and what is the purpose of the gun? Example, there are co2 pistols and revolvers for training the firearm. You get exactly everything same, except other use cartridges and other CO2 with pellets. Meant for cheap way to not spend lot of money for cartridges and finding shooting location, when you can do it when inside your home... (similar idea as using a RPG-7 training grenade, that takes in a 7,62x39 cartridge and does fire it with identical trajectory as the real grenade for it's type.) Very cheap, safe way to train rookies to handle RPG-7 with cost of one cartridge instead one grenade.
Yes agreed. I’m not sure how much the blowback feature reduces the shot count. These air guns are for plinking and fun, not for competition, so it doesn’t matter too much either way… and CO2 is pretty cheap so I don’t mind buying an extra cylinder every 100 or more shots. Both fixed slide and blowback air guns are great fun. Of course I would prefer blowback for realism, but often they are a bit more expensive. Sometimes I have to go for the cheaper option. 😊🔫👍🏼🎯
Hello 👋🏼 Thanks very much. I’ve done a quick search and can’t find anything I’m afraid. I recommend you contact Umarex www.umarex.com/contact.html Have a great day 😊👍🏼🔫
@@GreeklishOutdoors It’s very realistic of the original and it’s very compact to conceal. Be nice if it was a 22 pellet and could mod valve too. But still a beautiful piece as is. I only have 1 air pistol and it’s a Crosman 357 SNR that also is all metal and realistic. I do however have a umerex HDR 50 and HDB 68. Those are very nice for defence but not compact to conceal.
The Crosman 357 SNR looks very cool. Yes I agree, if you could mod the Makarov for pellets it would be great. I think I might take it with me whilst I’m in the mountains tomorrow as I’ve had a few bad encounters with aggressive dogs up there recently. The noise alone should put them off.

Hello 👋🏼 Thanks very much. Here in Greece, it is not legal to carry these in a public place e.g. towns and cities (unless you’ve just purchased it and it’s in its box). It is legal to shoot these at shooting ranges or on your own property/someone’s else’s property with permission. When transporting, the air gun should be unloaded and in a case (preferably in a secure case) in the back of the vehicle. It is definitely not legal to use these air guns for self defense here in Greece. I hope that helps. All the best 😊👍🏼🔫

Baikal make a genuine Makarov 645K air pistol, using genuine 9mm Makarov parts, made in the original factory as the live firing versions. Made from genuine gunsteel, not cast mazak as the replicas are. They can be somewhat hard to locate sometimes, but are worth seeking out, and not much dearer than the Umerex replica.
