Love seeing more progress on this. I'm out by Oregon City and just pulled a 3800sc out of a Buick PA Ultra for my 86 Fiero. I'll be using the Getrag at first, but will be going to the F23 when I go turbo. The Quaife/Peloquin, while expensive, is the way to go. The biggest gain from getting a proper lsd is how much stronger it makes the trans. The stock diffs are the weakest link and are the first thing to break, so replacing it with a proper lsd is the way to go. Those cheap plate and spring things are a waste of money. I also wouldn't recommend welding the diff, even if you're drag racing. Maybe if you were drifting. Anyways, good to see you guys back. It'd be cool to meetup sometime and talk Fieros.

Awesome project! I forgot you were doing the Fiero! Love the Bonne. I have a 2000 SSEi.
Always wanted to do a Fiero though.

This is what I wanted to do with the 86 Fiero I had. Unfortunately I had to sell it a while back. I still have an 04 Impala with the 3800 and I plan to f23 or f40 swap it. Finding the manual trans is the hard part lol

Rear mount rear wheel drive welded diff will put alot of stress on the drive shafts, Essentially the same as front wheel drive in which i have welded a front wheel drive diff and i could just feel every turn stressing the bearings in the shafts until one gave out, then eventually went with an LSD, if you can get upgraded shafts it should be okay. If I were you I would go the expensive LSD option, it will handle the power that thing will make.
Also Isuzu is pronounced EYE SUE ZOO 😂
Just some advice from Australia 👌

Yeah seems like LSD is the way to go

OBX has been making parts for Jeeps for years if it's the same company I'm thinking of..... I would do a little more research on that..... but welding the death is only good for going straight lines or for going off-road..... a welded death on a Pontiac Fiero would be like a 2600 lb go-kart with a solid axle !!!

I’ve thought about a 4200 build for the future

It also wouldn't be a bad idea to look and see if the differential from the automatic transmission in the GTP with a LSD will work in your manual transmission..... some manufacturers use the same differentials like Honda..... the LSD differential inside of the automatic transmission that comes in a Honda Prelude is compatible with the 5-speed transmission that comes in a Honda CRX !

The manual and automatic differentials aren’t compatible, they’re different designs. Not that it would have helped, they have about the same options minus the OBX. (Quaife $$$, LSD insert $)
