    I would LOVE to see more Vendor videos! Im looking into doing some events. im exploring the events around me now and looking to see if similar products are sold, how the vendor set ups are and how the vendors feel about the experiance at certain events

      That is a great thing to do before applying!! Being a customer first at an event is always recommended to get a feel for how the event goes :)

    I agree with everyone's comments about more vendor videos. Like how much product do you bring? What is the easiest set up? How long does set up usually take? Best time to do markets to make it more worth it?

    I could not agree more! I've been doing events with my small business for the last year and a half and it's always a crapshoot! Overall, it is worth it. 95% of the time I make a pretty nice profit and that's money I wouldn't have brought in otherwise. It is a TON of work but overall it's been a positive experience for me. Recently, I have even been experimenting with paying a friend to do markets for me. It's a work in progress but eventually I think it would benefit my business if I can be in two places at once during peak candle seasons. Thank you as always for sharing your thoughts with us!

    Honestly when I go to events I always take photos or grab business cards. Sometimes I don't always have time to stop or if there's too many people to stop and briefly chat. I do tend to walk up and down to see the whole thing then come back

    One thing I’ve learned doing events throughout the year, I scale back the amount of product I bring depending on how popular the event is. Instead of bringing a dozen of each scent, for any weekly market I attend, I only now bring 6 candles of each scent.. I double the number on larger events such as festivals which are more popular..

    Vendor events-art shows, farmers markets, pop ups, etc. , are the bread and butter of my business and I can’t imagine just working from home and online. I thrive on hard work including the physical part and I’m 53. To me, success is about hard work and discipline. As an introvert myself, i noticed that the more that i put myself out there to the public and receive positive reinforcement about my products, the easier it gets and is less energy draining. Also, focusing on presentation of actual booth is important too. Great video! Vender events are hard ass work. Haha

    Markets are a lot of work and often not worth the reward. But when you find a good one stick to it and keep coming back. The next day I’m like in a coma lol. Barely can walk too. It just wears down my body

    Yes! I can totally relate to the vendor times and how you can’t breakdown or leave until it’s over. We did an all day event over the holidays from 10am - 7pm. 😫 Oof! It was rough, but like you said, we got sales toward the end so it was worth it.

    Doing my first three day event in a month and I’m scared! These vendor videos have helped me get prepared. I have to set up and tear down every night which is going to be rough so I think I’ll have to take two cars to keep back stock in. I think what worries me the most is having a good POS set up and having enough product for a three day event.
    I got this and hopefully my hubby will bare thru it with me 🤗 best of luck with future events! Thanks for the videos!

    I definitely feel the same exact way about pop-ups, I usually bring my teen daughter to help. I've learned to research the vendor events that pop in my DMs before signing up to attend. I've made the mistake twice 🤦‍♀️ and they were both the 1st attempt at hosting a vendor event and had booked tons of vendors however they didn't have enough experience on how to promote the event and both were so slow and miserable! Not even any signage directing people or showcasing what the event was outside the location. 😩

    I don't know if it is a trend for anyone else, but I'm noticing this year that vendor events have been so terrible that we, and most other vendors at the events, are not even making back the booth fee. Last year, we were at almost 8 times the sales as we are now. Is this a thing in other areas too?

    Events bring in most of my income but they are SO MUCH work. In my area, my craft has become pretty competitive so it's getting harder to get into markets that curate their vendors and it's not worth it to go to ones that don't. Last year was the first year where many events failed to bring in shoppers so the feeling of being trapped when no sales are happening was discouraging. I find myself cutting back this year to save my energy and create time to develop other streams of income.

    Erica, would you advise attending a vendor event before I can even put up my website? I am trying so hard to get to the point where I am selling online but I'm a mother and I feel like I have no brain power to even get my business where I CAN sell online. I've been testing for YEARS and I don't like anything that I make. Maybe a vendor show will help me to see what the customer likes? Please help with whatever advice you have!

    • @MemoryBoxCandleCo
      @MemoryBoxCandleCo  Год назад

      I don’t see a problem with that at all! There’s a handful of vendors who don’t have websites and all they do is markets :) I think it’s also a great idea to get direct feedback from customers when you’re just starting out!

  • @Alwyzrite28

    How do you factor in taxes for the candles? Do you price them higher at the market to account for taxes?

    • @MemoryBoxCandleCo
      @MemoryBoxCandleCo  Год назад +2

      No I actually price them at normal retail price and then take out taxes from there. Technically I could increase the price slightly, however it’s nice when people pay cash and I don’t have to worry about a transaction fee, so I just think of it as a wash. Plus pricing my products in denominations of 5’s has been helpful. If I were to add on cost for sales tax it would be like $17 or $27 for my products and I would prefer to go with $15 and $25, but that’s just personal preference!

    • @Alwyzrite28
      @Alwyzrite28 Год назад

      @@MemoryBoxCandleCo do you still have to submit taxes on those sales? Or find it complex to do after?

    • @MemoryBoxCandleCo
      @MemoryBoxCandleCo  Год назад +1

      @@Alwyzrite28 yes, I just total the amount I earned from markets (cash, card, venmo, etc) and then do the math to figure out how much of that was collected for sales tax and then I remit it at the end of the year to my state :)

  • @kingleo1128

    I would be afraid to do a brick and mortar. It's safer just doing events and online sale, and renting a store eats into the profit too much.
