Question: In one of your videos that I cannot find now, you mentioned one of your viewers told you about a good offline navigation app. For the life of me I cannot find it. Do you recall which one it was? Thank you so much for all your reviews. Your videos lead me to pick up an S8 after trying out their F7 which I did not like. This S8 is leaps better.
That's because the S8 is an awesome top end Android head unit. Good choice. Offline navigation, you can download areas on Google maps for offline use, or I have used TomTom
Been watching several of your videos as I'd like to give an android based head unit a try so I appreciate the time you have taken. I am a heavy AA user on a "high end" Pioneer and I'm just sick of over priced imperfections that are name brand units. I was curious do these style head units need to have a sim card for maps, music etc. or can these be things that you use your phone to get the data needed (downloading spotify library or google offline maps)?
SIM cards are just an option to use them without a phone. You can just connect them to your phones WiFi hotspot to give them data. You can use offline maps and music, in fact, I personally download my Spotify tracks so I'm not constantly streaming in the car. But there's a significant benefit of using data with navigation - notification of traffic, roadworks and police
@@SaabUnleashed Thanks for the reply, glad to hear, just found out my phone company offers free data only sims with my plan so I'm gonna give that a go! I have another question regarding the can-bus. This is going in a 2007 dodge ram 2500 and while that particular year is not included as compatible I do believe it should work (same can-bus as other vehicle years offered) . However, if it does not work, could I use a 3rd party steering wheel control adapter to get those working with the key wire?
Yes you can, but you would have to refer to the Ram specific groups/forums to find out where that key wire should be attached. If you're lucky, there will be a harness already designed for your truck
@@SaabUnleashed Thanks! I spent a day and a half messing with the steering wheel controls before I finally found out that despite have the buttons the oem harness was not there!! The next thing I am fighting is trying to get Google to sync my contacts and messages with the head unit. When I am hooked up to it I do not get any notifications for calls or texts which is a major problem with my job.
Found your channel a couple of weeks ago whilst searching for a head unit for my work van, i think I've narrowed it down between the S8 7" and A6 PF, can't decide which 🤔 I did look at Android auto ones but as I jump in and out of my van 20+ times a day I don't like the idea of having to plug my phone in every time to get my navigation app to run so that's out the question. I do like the idea of having my apps ready to go without having to connect to my phone. If anyone can help with the pros and cons of the S8 or A6 I'd be very grateful ☺️👍
Is the Teyes CC2+ you did last month better? What about the newest 7" Joying? I'm comparing $300-ish units for the best ram and features. Atoto is 3gb ram for $300 so Teyes is winning so far. Note: For a non-saab car. Its seems like Joying can use a cutom launcher where Teyes can't. Anything else?
Yes indeed, all of the S8 2nd gen radios are compatible with the clever Atoto AC-HD03LR camera. I'm actually going to be demonstrating this cool feature in a couple of weeks
I promise I have an S8 question at the end. Bear with me... I just purchased the A6PF and I must say, I either did not configure the line out RCA converters properly (i.e. set the gains) or the output fidelity is really just mediocre. The Alpine head unit (from ages ago) had pre-amp outputs and it sounded lightyears better. I'm pretty disappointed with the audio quality on the A6PF. Do you think that's because of the line out converter signal degradation or is it worth it to buy an S8 with built in pre-amp outputs instead.
What head unit do you recommend for a car that has it's audio module together with it's climate control? I see you mentioned that you can't integrate this Atoto with any other canbus so it won't work with climate control. I need something to work with my 2017 Ford Explorer. Any recommendations?
I just installed the S8 Gen2 Standard with the 8-inch "floating" display last week. I have other stuff to add to it like a USB DVR, TMPS, rear camera etc, etc. So far it works very well and is excellent value for money. I do have some stuff to work out however. 1) How to get internet tethered from my iPhone. If I'm using Wireless CarPlay, I can't share my internet via Bluetooth, nor does it seem to work with Wireless. I could share my internet connection via Wi-Fi, but then only with wired CarPlay. 2) My clock doesn't remember the time till it locks on to a GPS signal. 3) I can get FM radio but not AM. 4) I've used the ISO (A) harness. Don't get fast start. Not sure if changing to ISO (B) would fix it. I have a Subaru Forester MY06. Then others are to do with apps. Would have a deeper dive later. This is after all, my very first (more recent) Android head unit, indeed Android device, apart from a very old Android phone years ago.
1. Stop using Carplay. You have an android unit and it is infinitely better to just install and use your apps directly on the head unit. You cannot use wireless Carplay and share tether your 4g connection. 2. Your clock doesn't remember the time because you are using the wrong ISO harness. Switch to B. 3. No idea. Never use AM myself. 4. Same as 2
@@SaabUnleashed I'll see how I go with CarPlay. I do think I might be able to get away with not using it, almost. And I'll give ISO (B) a go. The issue is this is for the second car, so I hope it will definitely not drain the battery too quick as I won't be able to drive it as often. Cheers!
@@SaabUnleashed I'll give it a go. I haven't driven this car over the past couple of years much and have had to replace the battery twice. Now that I've had the car fixed and we're not in lockdown (fingers crossed), might get to drive it more often. Hopefully ISO (B) will work for me. It's a Subaru Forester M06. Mind you, I've used an ISO harness with my Alpine CarPlay unit in the last five years and it hasn't had an issue. Overall, I'm rather happy with the 8-inch screen. I might rip off the matt screen protector and use the glossy one instead however.
@@SaabUnleashed Well last night I changed to the ISO (B) harness, so far so good! I think the radio thing is needing to connect the “Power Antenna”. Also can confirm it seems possible to connect both USB DVR and TPMS to the one USB port with a USB hub. This leaves the second USB port from the rear dedicated to a smartphone. I can’t easily access the “front” USB port that sits behind the 8-inch display.
Hello. Just found your channel about three weeks ago. I wanted to ask a question if I may bother you. Can you recommend the best 8-9 inch display double din unit? One I can adjust the screen up a few millimeters (cm)? Sorry I’m American. Also I’d prefer it be wireless for both Apple and Android. Thanks man. I’m trying to find a good head unit for my truck. Your channel has been great in learning how good these Android units can work. If you ever see this…a link to buy said unit would be great. Cheers
@@SaabUnleashed My mistake. I meant up and down adjustment. ⬆️⬇️. Side to side would be amazing too. If possible. Can you send me a link to one please. I’m in the States and some of the websites look rather….well…still your identity LOL
@@HighRiderSonoma Ah I see what you mean. Will the Joying doesn't "slide" up and down, but if you get a 9inch single din, you can set the height of the screen to where you want it by moving the screen mounts. I know what you mean about the sites :D these brands are safe though
@@SaabUnleashed may I ask a favor? Do you have a link to a Joying unit that has a 8-9 inch display, wireless Apple and Android, has two camera inputs (front and rear), and to be honest that all I could ever want. A Chevrolet boot up screen would be cool but definitely not required LOL
Great insight, thank you. My biggest gripe is with Apple iPhones that OVERHEAT when using Google Navigation (in sunny California) I'd like to use Google Maps on the head unit only, but iPhone data JUST for traffic info. Is this possible? I really am disappointed with Apple products.
This is the way you should be doing it anyway. The S8 is a premium Android device, with a good specification. The whole point of getting an Android head unit with a good specification is so that it will run installed apps quickly. If you're just using apple CarPlay, you might as well have just got the cheapest ATOTO F7 because the very nature of Apple CarPlay is that it streams apps from your phone, using your phones processing power and not that of the head unit. So yes, what you need to do is connect the S8 to your iPhone hotspot (or put a SIM directly into the S8) and then use Google Maps or Waze installed directly on the head unit. The same with your music apps and anything else you want.
Will this radio play RUclips video while driving? I like to put my podcasts on while driving and like to watch if I'm stuck in traffic or at red lights

I kist got mime yesterday and installed it and setup was very easy, but mine does not have any car logos to change i wonder if I am the only with this issue?
Every head unit needs a CANbus decoder if your car uses this technology for factory wheel controls. If your car has the older resistive steering controls, you won't need a CANbus decoder, but you will need to find the relevant wire in your car to tap into for the Key1 and Key2 wires on the ISO loom
Hi. I'm considering pruchasing one of these units but I've seen a few reviews complaining of bad radio reception from ATOTO S8 units. How do you rate the radio reception compared to the original radio?
Hi, What additional parts I shall buy to make this ATOTO HU exactly fits the dash opening of Toyota Camry 2009 (brackets, harnesses .. etc). I know there are many other brands made specific units for this car (dasaita, joying & others), but I'm for ATOTO brand. Thanks.
Had this unit for 1 day and sent it back. Too buggy. Spec says it can take a 2TB SSD. I connected up a 1TB and the unit struggled to play back the files. It should build a library but it just kept starting a fresh build despite having permanent power. Some apps couldn't access any storage files on USB. The supplied File Manager app could see it but Google Files could not be granted access. That and other music apps were denied access despite the permissions being correctly set. My budget phone works flawlessly with the SSD. Screen quality was below my expectations. Can anyone recommend a head unit that can read from a USB SSD or any mass storage device with a lot of files on it?
Hi, I have one question, may I control an USB HD 500gb with this unit? I mean, I have all my mp3 stored in an hard drive, can the unit read it through the rear usb cable? Thanks for the help
Hi Stuart - another great video - many thanks - question- fitting the Atoto S8 Premium in a couple of days - will I get a significant benefit if I upgrade the car speakers from stock ? - Saab 93 08 convertible- not Bose as standard - cheers in anticipation- Steve 👌
The ones in the rear side panels, yes, they are absolutely terrible stock. Anything would sound better. As for the others, see how it sounds after you've played with the equaliser. There's always the possibility to upgrade audio, it's a never ending thing.
Bought one of these based on your recommendation. I had my own backup camera which dies not seem to work. In looking on the internet some android units can be changed for different cameras, I can’t seem to locate where this change can be accessed on mine. I contacted the company I purchased it from but so far all I hear is crickets. Any suggestions? Thanks
Your original cam is not compatible with atoto, they have their own Live Rear view cam. Or u ask someone to help u to reconnect the harness to retain the original cam function.
I have 2 atoto s8 gen 2. And both drain my battery. If I don’t drive them for about 3 days. The baby terry is drained. I’ve made sure the harness it set up correctly. Any help?
You need a canbus decoder if you don't already have one. Then you just link up the "key" wires. There are step by step guides on my channel for this car, it's basically plug and play, the only wires that need splicing are the steering control wires
Hi I already have a DAB adapter that plugs into the back of my android head unit that I have installed at the moment. Do I have to use the atoto DAB adapter and which USB port would I plug it into as I believe the atoto sa standard comes with 3 USB extensions. Thanks lee
Hi I installed this head unit yesterday and using the agama car launcher which is great. I use amazon music as my music player and like to use alexa. My question is is there any way to make the screen display smaller as I need to hit the continue button to allow alexa to work and I can see about 2mm of the continue button on the bottom of the screen which is not enough for me to press it. Also how do I see how much storage space I have used in settings.
No. You need a head unit that has advanced CANbus integration and that can also supply the correct loom. I have successfully tested Teyes, Dasaita, Witson, NVNAV and I currently have an Idoing installed at the moment

That's what I want to know. Which is the ultimate best Android HU that will allow us to root the device. That's all any of us really care about. Price doesn't matter.
Very few people care about rooting, it's a very specialist requirement. Like mobile phones the manufacturers don't like you rooting them, but that's not to say they cant be. It's just how much of a ball ache it's going to be
@@SaabUnleashed thanks for the help, do you have any idea where I can get one of those? Also did you have to splice the ignition wire to iso or the fuse box?
Hello, anyone know how to fix incoming call and outgoing call no sound speakers via bloetooth ? I can play music from my iphone via bloetooth sound speaker work well.
Reverse cameras are generally backwards compatible. Not sure about the front one. If it's just a video input, you can use any camera,, same as the reverse cam
You said the system will stay in sleep mode for a few hours so that it can start immediately when it detects the ignition. Is this sleep duration adjustable? Since these units use such a miniscule amount of energy when they're in sleep mode, staying in sleep mode for several days should not be a problem and would be more convenient. Also, I hope you don't think it too silly of me to say the way you pronounce "h" reminds me of this Mitchell and Webb sketch from long ago: ruclips.net/video/qmVnr7rsWrE/видео.html
I bought one, although at the moment you should think before buying if you want to sponsor states that dont like our freedoms etc. The device itself: sound better than my pioneer in my audi a8 1999 under dark citcumstances but not in the sun. Starts slow and the software sucks. It always starts with yt which i dont need. Volume steps up and down too big. It sometimes starts with the lousy standard radio app which i really would like to get rid off. Android car has become the best choice to use normally, since it still is unreliable in the software departement. You cannot rotatie the screen like you want it. The ugly metal construction behind the screen does not look nice in a luxury car. Conclusion: save some extra and go for the halo. Hardware 3 stars, software 1.... totally ali express,
Quit peddling Android units. These are horrible when it comes to user experience.. Most apps are not developed for the scrrens on most of thses units and to get benefit of androids connected experience one needs a data connection. Anxroid Auto is the only viable option but you seem to prefer using these android units with downloaded content(maps, audio, video etc). I used to have an xtron unit in my Audi RS6, reolaced it with pioneer AA unit and never looked back to the clunky pure android on these Chinese umits. Even with DSP they dont come close to the sound you can get from even the cheap audio branda like boss.

I did look at Android auto ones but as I jump in and out of my van 20+ times a day I don't like the idea of having to plug my phone in every time to get my navigation app to run so that's out the question.
Nice, you are helping me to take a decision on which android head unit to buy. thanks
How did you install it ? Is it pure plug and play ? Asking cause I might get another saab in the future
Which mounting kit do you use? And what cables? Want to install this in my 2007 9-5. Thanks.
Hi, does this unit give a Birds Eye view when used with a reversing camera?
It's definitely worth to get the S8. It's a shame the A6 didn't come with factory preouts.
Just wondered, have you come across the Atoto S8 (Gen2) single din version (available on Amazon) ?
Cheers!
@@nchia it won't drain the battery at all. I have three cars myself, they all have Android units in them
@@SaabUnleashed I'll give it a go.
Does it show pictures of your contacts on the screen?
Did you have to splice at all to install this? Having a few issues with a boxster
Cheers
The only good brand, that I know can be tilted up, is Dasaita. They also have the wireless Carplay too
@@SaabUnleashed My mistake.
Can you recommend a remote screen to use with this unit so I can run a screen in the back please?
i had issue connecting my 9-5 steering wheel controls to the unit, any more information about this?
Any Android head unit will

Hi. About to get this for my 05 9-5 Aero(not the dame Edna). Will be getting the Atoto rear cam aswell. Currently completely stock and have several questions if you don't mind.
What cage and harness for the steering controls would you recommend, it's an Auto.
Do I need to hook anything into the SID for the steering controls.
Would I need ground loop isolators?

I kist got mime yesterday and installed it and setup was very easy, but mine does not have any car logos to change i wonder if I am the only with this issue?
Does it need a can-bus adpater for the steering wheel control or would the ISO connector do the job?
Every head unit needs a CANbus decoder if your car uses this technology for factory wheel controls. If your car has the older resistive steering controls, you won't need a CANbus decoder, but you will need to find the relevant wire in your car to tap into for the Key1 and Key2 wires on the ISO loom
im trying to do this to my saab 9-5 2006, what harness did you use?
Hi. I'm considering pruchasing one of these units but I've seen a few reviews complaining of bad radio reception from ATOTO S8 units. How do you rate the radio reception compared to the original radio?
I think the entenna conector is not firmly fit.
Is Apple CarPlay available wired too?
You had me up until the part with the Android head unit not providing wireless Android Auto. I was really liking this unit.
I am pretty sure you can get a firmware from atoto and that will give you full wireless android auto
it does now have wireless andriod auto you have to instal update
Bought one of these based on your recommendation. I had my own backup camera which dies not seem to work.
In looking on the internet some android units can be changed for different cameras, I can’t seem to locate where this change can be accessed on mine. I contacted the company I purchased it from but so far all I hear is crickets. Any suggestions? Thanks
Your original cam is not compatible with atoto, they have their own Live Rear view cam. Or u ask someone to help u to reconnect the harness to retain the original cam function.
For Atoto can you put a screen lock on the unit like a phone.
Which would you recommend for an 07 9⁵ aero with subwoofer that has wireless android auto please
I have 2 atoto s8 gen 2. And both drain my battery. If I don’t drive them for about 3 days. The baby terry is drained. I’ve made sure the harness it set up correctly. Any help?

Hello, am i going to be able to put this HU in my Honda Civic 2007?
How do you connect dab to usb and dash cam to usb if you only have 2 ports and one is for link
Which one do you recommended? ATOTO or DASAITA?
Have Saab 93 2009 and a atoto...what wire did you connect to get the steering wheel control to work
You need a canbus decoder if you don't already have one. Then you just link up the "key" wires. There are step by step guides on my channel for this car, it's basically plug and play, the only wires that need splicing are the steering control wires
Who are the top competitors to Ayoto?
Does you get the steering wheel buttons to work? I installed a S8 in my 2010 9-3 they wont work😢
If you have a CANbus decoder, they will work. You will of course need to set the buttons.
How does it not have wireless andriod? It's an andriod head unit. And no, it is not just a Saab problem making the unit an odd size.

Hi I'm looking to buy the atoto s8 standard 2gen and wondered if it has DAB radio built in or if I can use an adapter to use DAB.
You need to use the DAB adaptor as with all Android head units
Hi I already have a DAB adapter that plugs into the back of my android head unit that I have installed at the moment.
Do I have to use the atoto DAB adapter and which USB port would I plug it into as I believe the atoto sa standard comes with 3 USB extensions.
