    Allow me to begin by saying I ran across your channel 3 weeks ago and have shared it with several of my audio friends. They too have found your channel changing how they view car audio. Living in the US, we are only corralled to the usual suspects; Kenwood, Pioneer, Boss and the like. You've expanded the playing field for car audio head units. Thank you!
    I have a 2008 Honda Ridgeline that comes with a 7" head unit space and steering wheel volume control. I am considering the Atoto A6 Performance. Super excited!

    I have had three ATOTO Android Head Units and one of the Linux F7 units. My first Head Unit was purchased in November 2018, the A6Y Pro. I really liked it for the most part but it rebooted while running Waze often.
    Then when the Gen1 S8 Ultra came out I purchased one. There were a few problems and then COVID hit and ATOTO seemed to crawl under a rock and kept saying they were working on an update. It never materialized. Then they stopped production and launched the S8 gen2. The gen1 used chips they could no longer aquire. To this day they have not issued an update. My S8 Ultra gen1 is in the box collecting dust.
    Now I have the S8 Ultra Plus gen2 with 10" display installed in my Nissan Xterra. There have been a few updates issues but I have contacts issues which have not been fixed via an update.
    ATOTO after COVID is not the same company they were before COVID. It seems to me they lost some skilled talent and they are struggling to catch up. I have an A6 PF arriving tomorrow and can't wait to test it out but it will not replace my S8 Ultra Plus.

I really wish that they would fix the S8 Gen1 units. My S8 Ultra Gen1 is sitting in the box and sorely needs an update.

  • @raka522
    @raka522 Год назад +5

    I installed the A6PF yesterday and getting there wasn't easy at first with all the different A6 versions available.
    Actually quite simple: The PF version (performance) is the latest with the 8-core processor!
    I don't have to be able to mirror my smartphone onto the radio, the only thing that was important to me was the internet connection and I implemented that via Bluetooth tethering.
    The first thing I thought of was the only 2 USB inputs, one of which was already occupied by my DAB+ receiver, while the second one was actually intended for Atoto's smartphone connection.
    A little all-clear, he also accepts a USB stick with MP3' ;-)
    But I've decided to move about 4GB of music to the internal radio storage.
    I have paired an OBD reader with the Atoto and everything works beautifully.
    I'll soon be installing a reversing camera and I'm a little curious to see whether it can also be used to achieve a bird's eye view from above, at least there is such a switchable function in the menu...
    The 2 seconds quick start function: With other Android Head Units, it can happen that after a few days if the car is not used, the car batteries will be discharged so much that the car will no longer start.
    That won't happen with the A6!
    On the one hand, the power consumption is very low anyway when stationary, and on the other hand, the radio has an internal timer that shuts down the radio completely after 7 days.
    So don't be surprised if it takes then 1-2 minutes to start again.

    Thanks to your videos I decided to go with Atoto for my 2019 WRX and our 2010 Mazda 5. Went with the A6 PF. 9 inch for the Mazda (which is our family hauler) and the QLED 7 inch for my WRX. We're going to go with a 5G hotspot from Verizon for the van, and I'll just use BT tethering for my car, thus a separate 4G LTE radio wasn't necessary. And with the S8 being $200 more, I figured it wasn't really worth the price increase for what we'll be using it for.
    Thanks for your informative videos. Without them I'd have gone with just the plain old idoing for my WRX instead of atoto who seem to be of higher quality.

    I've had the A6, going on 3 years now. Lots of pluses, but the biggest con is the lack of any updates from ATOTO. I think they issued one updated in it's early life. The A6 is basically a discounted unit. After you use it for awhile, I think you will change your mind about 2gb of ram being enough. And the built in launcher is crap. There are much better ones you can use and download.

    • @SaabUnleashed
      @SaabUnleashed  2 года назад +1

      Good question, the connectivity is mainly because it doesn't have specific RCA preouts that you would find on other head units, the high-low converters are a compromise. There's also no digital connectivity that you would find on more expensive head units. the Vehicle integration score is because of it's incapability to integrate with more advanced CANbus features for newer cars, such as climate controls ect.

    I’m after a double din that will work with Apple phones AND let me watch Netflix, RUclips etc wireless would be better but I could accept it being a USB cable connection. You'll need an Android head unit if you want to watch videos ect. They're all compatible with iPhones. Not all have CarPlay, but realistically you don't really need that anyway.
      They will all come with a GPS antenna. For steering controls, you need to buy CANbus decoder separately or alternatively you can buy an Android head unit designed specifically for your car, which will generally come with everything you need in a plug and play fashion

    Did you try connecting Bluetooth 2 to an Android device and test Bluetooth teathering? It doesn't connect to any android device for my part. Bluetooth 1 works tho. Also do you know if the ring tone of the unit can be adjusted? It is too loud when getting a call. Lastly i think it is worth mentioning that the steering wheel controls only support single click unlike some other android headunits that allow long presses and short presses to have different functionalities, that there is a lock screen, and a button for starting google assistant on the phone that can also be assigned to a steering wheel key. Also there are screen gestures by touching the screen with 2 or 3 fingers.
    As for the problems that i have faced so far:
    Bluetooth 2 doesn't work with android devices. Tested 2 samsung s9 and s10 and one xaiomi device. The first time i start music over bluetooth the head unit would show that something is playing but no sound would come out unless i manually reconnect. The ring tone is very loud. Lastly if you are in a call you will not be able to go outside the call screen because every time you open something else the call app (bluetooth app) would re open immediately all by itself. Have not gotten a response from Atoto yet. I recommend waiting on buying that headunit until they work a bit more on the software but it is a lot better than other 7 inch android studies that are based on klyde such as pumpkin and vanku.

    • @Mohammad_Qasem
      @Mohammad_Qasem 2 года назад +1

      Update:
      Bluetooth 2 and 1 work fine. The problem was on my end. Got some good help from Atoto. The only problem i have with Bluetooth now is that Bluetooth 2 only connects if i initiate the connection from the head unit but not when i do it from my s9+. Also the wifi has to be off on the headunit and the Bluetooth teathering should be enabled on the phone. Nothing more seems to be needed but the manual mentions a couple more steps. For anyone wondering the problem with Bluetooth 1 audio was due to a tasker profile i had that seems to be connecting and disconnecting Bluetooth all the time.
      Regarding the steering wheel it seems there is no hold function support as of right now, the ring tone sound can be adjusted by lowering the volume with the hardware keys while being called (instructions from a video the support sent) lastly as of right now the call screen will keep popping up as that is a "safety feature" but it seems to be okay with google maps and shows a floating mini call gadget instead. I will add an update if i find a solution for the Bluetooth 2 connection or if it can be set to auto reconnect which doesn't seem to be possible as of right now.

      It was a task i had to connect to Bluetooth when a wireless charging is detected, then when Bluetooth is detected it would enable wifi hotspot, set Bluetooth sound, disable wifi and so on... Not sure what part caused it exactly but i was able to reproduce the problem with my headphones.
      However, now i am running into the problem of not getting any voice out and Bluetooth crashes with tasker disabled. It could be a problem on my phone but i haven't investigated deeply so I can't say for sure. The Bluetooth app is not the most robust but i don't want to blame Atoto without a clear evidence that the problem is on their side 😅

    I have just found your channel while looking for a android based head unit have narrowed it down to a couple different ones the atoto s8 premium , joying and the other one being the teyes cc3. I am leaning more towards the cc3 but would like to hear your opinion on them. Or other head unit suggestions?

      I'm afraid you won't find one with a DVD player. Aside from the fact that the mechanism is expensive and fragile, it's also a dead technology. Remember with these you can just playback video files from USB or install apps like Netflix. Removing the DVD requirement and you have lots of options ruclips.net/video/ZbMPUTVCBKw/видео.html

    • @SaabUnleashed
      @SaabUnleashed  Год назад +1

      There is a wire called "illumination" on the loom. When you feed it 12v,, the buttons will light up.
      You're meant to feed it 12v from the headlight stich so that the lights come on at night when you switch the headlights on (and the screen will also automatically dim for night driving).
      However, some people just tap it into the red ACC wire, because its easier. This keeps the buttons lit whenever the car is on

    Hi there, thanks for your videos, some great detail. Just wondering regarding installation for a Land Rover Discovery 3, do I need to purchase all of these listed below to fit or do the attachments with the ATOTO mean that some of these are redundant? I also saw in your S8 video that you needed to cut the cage, does that mean I would need to do the same if I purchased a standard cage?
    FACIA: FP8289 ( I know I need this)
    PRIMARY HARNESS: CHLR6C (assuming this is also a main requirement)
    ANTENNA ADAPTOR: APA58
