    Ford killed off the Fiesta way too early. That's one of the best cars on the road and they should have invested in an upgrade instead of blindly going all EV SUV. Just see how many of their loyal customers are now deserting them in droves. Not everyone wants an SUV or EV, and certainly less who want an EV SUV!

      I wonder sometimes what goes these manufacturers heads when they make these decisions. Trying to be like Apple and tell people what they should be buying? Hahaha mistake #1.
      SUVs are overrated. I’d take a good hatchback or estate/stationwagon anyday.

      They killed the fiesta by fitting a eco boost engine now known as the ecoboom as it go's bang and then shafted there customers with big bills for a crap engine that Ford should have paid for

      @@DarrylRadcliffe Absolutely. I just don't need an SUV but just a small runabout. I'm 70+ and there is absolutely no need for such cars, especially when I am trying to do my environmental bit but buying less, smaller and cars with better efficiency. SUV simply do not fit my requirements. I worked in Ford's Product Development department for some years, so I am most disappointed by their strategic mistake. I no longer drive Ford cars because they just do not make the products that fit my needs. So sad.

    I'm a firm believer that our car tax system should be based on weight, with bonuses for cars below 1000cc, it's the only way to get car makers to design efficient cars, for people to be enticed into lighter cars , and cheaper to make cars mean cheaper for us to buy, why £40,000 has to be a normal price for a boggo family is beyond me, when the E46 M3 came out that was 40k, much better value, yes I know it was 20 years ago, but even so there was a big hike in car prices under the cover of covid

    I'm a big Swift fan but I really don't like the looks of this new model. They don't seem to have done an awful lot, but it has had a huge detrimental appearance to the looks (IMO). Its a shame because I really like it otherwise.
    Personally, I'm happy that Suzuki have kept the same dimensions. Many supermini's now are as big as cars from the next segment up which I find very odd, supermini's are supposed to be small, so don't make them bigger. If I want/need a bigger car, I'd buy one.
    Looking down the comments, much is made of the power output compared to the 1.0 Boosterjet. I'm a bit baffled by these and can only assume these folk have been living in a cave the last few years because the 1.0 Boosterjet was killed off in the 2020 facelift of the previous shape car. No idea why they are complaining about it now, 3/4 years later🤔. So the new model is not losing 30bhp over the previous model, its losing maybe about 1bhp! (and one cylinder). Whether or not Suzuki should have killed off the 1.0 Boosterjet is a separate issue and nothing to do with this new model. As one of (it seems) a handful of people left on the road who is comfortable, happy, and able to make rapid progress with a low powered car, I don't really have much of a problem with it. A light and nimble car with a revvy n/a engine, what's not to like?. The only place I'd appreciate the extra power (more specifically the torque) of the 1.0 Boosterjet is on motorways and dual carriageways where the extra muscle would make for more relaxed cruising. But, the Swift isn't that kind of car, its bluff windscreen and lack of sound deadening (which keeps the weight down, because sound deadening is heavy stuff!) means that cruising at or above the legal limit isn't really its forte.

    My wife owns the previous gen to this (2018) and it’s brilliant owned it from basically brand new it’s on 30k miles and has never let us down.
    What I would say which really let the newer versions down is that you don’t get the 1ltr 3 cylinder turbo anymore which is such a shame because it’s far more superior to the 1.2 4 cylinder N/A you got in facelifted version. I had one for a day while ours was in for a service and it just felt a bit gutless down low.
    Got sidetracked there, the swift shouldn’t really be compared to a fiesta it’s a car that can basically do everything that any other car can do without the fancy touches while maintaining the key elements such as fuel economy, reliability and maintenance costs. The added bonus is that it is an absolute hoot on country roads.

Slightly different at the front, and the tail lamps slightly different as well. Interior is almost identical apart from the larger infotainment screen. Overall the car is not that much different. The main disappointment is the engine only delivering about 90bhp, don't get me wrong I love my Swift, but to release a new model almost identical with a lesser powered engine is a backwards step by Suzuki.

    • @ReallyVirtual

      It's actually worse. The new Suzuki Swift has 80hp. I'm in the same boat. My car is a 2019 SZ5 model and switching to the new Swift will almost certainly be a downgrade due to losing around 30 hp (a little under a 30% drop in power which is significant). This is also reflected in the 0-60 times where the newer model is around 2 seconds longer. I like some of the new tech, but I think my current Suzuki has everything I need, is faster and looks a lot better.

    In the UK, the cheapest new model Swift you can buy costs £18,699. The same Swift has just been launched in India & starts at 6.5 lahks...or £6,130!! So us mug punters in the UK are being asked to pay THREE TIMES the price for virtually the same car. I like my Suzi a lot but I point blank refuse to be ripped off paying these exorbitant prices.

    • @MarthaMansbridge
      @MarthaMansbridge 12 дней назад

      Agreed - and they’re made in the same factories. Suzuki have basically seen the opportunity to milk UK buyers now the rest of the industry has artificially pushed up prices. This car could easily be £11-12k in the UK and still make them a profit. They know that there’s little point selling it cheap because it would just cause them problems with the new tariffs relating to EV sales. This is the same reason they quickly discontinued the new Jimny. If they sell to many of any of their ICE models they end up paying penalties

    Affordable is the word bro, if you can’t use it please don’t pretend to be an automobile journalist. Muppets using cheap for a car nowadays to drive down its appeal. Suzuki shouldn’t let these kind of people review their cars at their expense. Most of these automobile journalists disrespect car makers who make affordable cars to make their more expensive but the ones advertising with them seem preferable
