I bought a Baum and Mercier Hampton as my first luxury watch in 1990 and it is still as classy and beautiful now as it was then. I have never had a single problem with it in 32 years. One of my favorite brands. This would be my first choice in this price range. Love your reviews. Keep them coming.
This watch has the classic dimensions of mid century American watches. A beautiful, fully serviced vintage Hamilton or Bulova can be had for $300-$500, which is an absolute steal! These underrated historical gems bring on a whole other level of satisfaction 👌 (Wearing a 1955 Hamilton Trent salmon/silver dial as I write this - nice enough to make Elvis envious!)
Amen brother! These new rectangular watches don't come anywhere close to the Art Deco bonanza of the 1930s/40s and 50s. I would also add the Gruen Curvez to the two you mentioned.
I love this watch to the point that some time ago when visiting family we popped into the local AD. I was taken with the Bordeaux dial but when I tried it on my 7" wrist it was just a tad too small. It wasn't a wasted visit though as my sister bought it. I walked out with a Longines Dolce Vita sector dial that was a bit larger. I might be wrong (probably) but I think they share the same base movement but you don't get to see it in the Longines. The Oris does look very good in the blue dial version and other options.
Oris, if you're reading - include the 6 with "Swiss Made" on either side, and lose the date with a manual would movement! Would be more fitting of this watch style, imo. Could also be nice to write something in the bottom half like "Hölstein" or "Mechanique", but not necessary. (Alternatively, if possible, a squared small seconds would be amazing!)
I like the longines DolceVita better than the Baume et Mercier Hampton, It has a more lassic look, which I personally prefer. But still a great choice!
I also really like Baume and Mercier. I think they are very underrated. I have a Riviera and is one of my most versatile and most worn watches. I really like the Hampton, but it is not a small watch.
@@rickyromano6659 yes i also love B&M, its one of my favourite brands and love what they do. I have a clifton Baumatic which i love. Yes i know the Hampton is not small hence why a nice well explained review by Teddy would be appreciated as therd arent many online. Such an underrated brand.
@@darrenaquilina1403 I 100% agree. The Clifton is a super underrated dress watch. Their in house Baumatic with 5 day power reserve is a really good movement. Many other luxury watches at this price point; especially those with exhibition case backs, are thick. Usually over 13 mm, but not BM. The Clifton is under 11 mm. Same with the Riviera. The movements are also beautiful and well finished for the price.
Lovely watch, spoiled by the unnecessary date complication. Even this is ridiculously too small, which it can’t be much bigger anyway due to the architecture of the watch. An art deco dress watch doesn’t need a date window. Other than that, it’s a great choice.
These are just beautiful. Definitely my next watch but, can't decide on the dial colour. I would definitely change the strap for a tan or brown, probably ostrich strap. Great review 👍
@robertfeast7691 Did you end up getting the Oris? I’ve been considering adding the red dial variant to my collection, more lately…. wondering your thoughts on the watch?
Someone else beat me to the Hampton comparison, but yeah. What he said. This is a nice watch, lovely case. And the tiny movement is fascinating on its own.
Having a hard time with alternatives. If I want that style of watch, I need a JLC or a Cartier. Otherwise, I'll feel like a wannabe. Although I bought a Pelagos because I couldn't afford a Rolex and I love it. Complicated subject. Goes with the budget I guess
Tank case style is not owned by JLC or Cartier. Same as 4 wheels on automobile is not exclusively Mercedes. Before falling out of fashion virtually every watchmaker made tank watches. Many like Longines never stopped.
You feel insecure about purchasing this Oris yet you bought a Pelagos which is one of dozens of Rolex Submariner homages? Baffling. I would think that purchasing a "dive watch" that nobody uses for diving would make you more of a poser than wearing this Oris that looks nothing like a JLC or a Cartier.
Yeah, for me it was down to the Carree, or the Dolce Vita. Ended up going with the Longines, because it was the exact same price, but on a bracelet. Felt like that gave it a slight edge.
I thought this watch was strange at first, both because I associate rectangular watches so closely with Cartier and JLC and because I don't think of Oris as a dress watch maker, but the more that I look at this the more I like it.
Jlc Reverso leans the most towards formal style dressiness in a modern design.Longines Dolce Vita style leans towards formal dressiness as well but with an old school twist.Cartier tank leans towards formal/casual/modern/old school timeless style which is most versatile.with This Oris I don't see it looking as good as the Cartier Reverso or longines since it lacks Abit of the luxury feel the others provide as a signature watch however when wearing more casual style clothing and if you have a wider collection of watches this would be the best choice to have imo and looks the best with casual and modern style clothing
Bought the same watch years ago but eventually gave it away. Now I have a JLC Reverso and very happy. Lesson is save for the real watch that you love not buy the imitation alternative. You will always want the real one.
For me it das only one thing wrong and it's the same as longines dolce vita, why would you put a date window on such watch? It would look much cleaner with a 6 marking, like 12, 3 and 9. I don't mind date on sports watches, but I haven't seen a dress piece that looks better with a hole in a dial.
Great style that reminds me of my father's Hamilton rectangular watch from the 1950s. Now, the next time I take the grandson to visit grandma in Columbus, Ohio, I'm going to spend some time and find that watch.
None of the Cartier tanks currently on their website have a stepped case design like this. Which Cartier are you referring to that looks anything like this?
I like the watches but hate the name of the brand. Sounds like a dog food company or something. Or maybe like a really lame app that does some menial communication tasks for you on the phone. Or a customer service consulting firm.

I am so glad someone finally showcased this watch. This one is on my list...
Love the Oris Rectangular. My wife has an older version with croc leather strap and Roman numerals. Beautiful watch in an amazingly small case.
Oris has some of the best colours with crisply done details. Always on point quality control

I am so proud to purchase the Oris rectangular white dial a year ago. 👏👏

The white dial one is fire 🔥🔥🔥. Pair that one with a black strap and you’ve got yourself a winner.
I've wanted a Longines Dolce Vita for a while now, so it's interesting to see this Oris, which is a worthy competitor. A beautiful dress watch.
I find both of them very compelling
Personally, my preference is a tank style watch and this watch show cases the beauty and eloquence of the art deco period.
I've always liked a 'tank' style watch ... I cutrently have a less expensive tank style watch - the Seiko SUP880 solar tank.
Agreed, not spoilt for choice regarding this style.
I dig this design. Always liked Oris too.
This or a Baume et Mercier Hampton would be my choice on a budget. Any review on the Hampton Ted? There arent many on youtube. Thanks :-) keep it up.

Stunning piece !
I think it's a beautiful watch by ORIS. If the price was $300 less, they would have surely won several hearts.
Will wait for this on the grey market or 2nd hand

Personally, I would do without the date complication and have the 6 number instead.
Not sure what to make of this tbh. Looks nice though 🤔
Someone else beat me to the Hampton comparison, but yeah. What he said. This is a nice watch, lovely case. And the tiny movement is fascinating on its own.
I think I might have this over a quartz tank. I need to see one in person tho.
A really nice offering.
That for the up close video. But I will be going for a longines rectangular model, looks so much better that the oris
There's no way I can read that date, I'll wait for the no-date variant.

Nobody can knock a Pelagos

Pelagos is in its own lane. Yeah, the case is to similar to a Tank on this one.

I understand your perplexed state on this one. All I say is if you like it and don’t feel like you’re missing out, go for it.
Very nice. I wish they had used a black date wheel though.
Am I crazy or it could be also a nice casual watch. Maybe not every day wear, but it can also be wear on more casual events 🤔
Oris is on a roll
Why have a date? It's too tiny.
Longines DolceVita > Oris Rectangular imo
Great video :)
Personally I’d go for a Ferderique Constant Carree, feels more Cartier tank inspired
Yeah, for me it was down to the Carree, or the Dolce Vita. Ended up going with the Longines, because it was the exact same price, but on a bracelet. Felt like that gave it a slight edge.
looks like Rolex Prince or Patek Gondolo, what a steal!
Any anti-magnetic properties? I can find on website.
Beautiful watch.
A good accessible alternative to the Cartier tank.
This watch is just classy and sexy. The red dial with a light tan crocodile strap is class.
I thought this watch was strange at first, both because I associate rectangular watches so closely with Cartier and JLC and because I don't think of Oris as a dress watch maker, but the more that I look at this the more I like it.

Nice watch. I think they should have dug out an older logo version to match the rest of the design. Or make a design to match the logo period
ive been wanting to get one...
Merci beaucoup l'Ami

Could have just been a hand wind, no need for it to be an automatic. Slimmer would have been better
Please review for seiko tortoise land 🙏🙏
Square is hip!
Rectangular too!
It is a nice piece.....
Ok
Hm..
Great looking watch. Oris slightly missed the mark with that date window. Would’ve looked so much better and symmetrical with no date.
I strongly agree with this one, looks a bit off when the date interrupts the symmetry.
I like it. I want it. But one thing... the sides of the case look sooooo much like the cartier tanks. Damn it.
None of the Cartier tanks currently on their website have a stepped case design like this. Which Cartier are you referring to that looks anything like this?
Lovely, but they had to spoil it with the pointless date complication 🤯
Wth, date is not a pointless complication
@@diavalus to anyone with a memory it is only useful once per day, if that 🤷🏼♂️🤯
I hardly even use my watch for time
Interesting. I am only buying it because it has the date complication.
The Bulova Frank Sinatra tank automatic is cheaper.
I would like to pick up a rectangle like watch eventually but I'm leaning towards the longines dolcevita.
I really love the Dolcevita with Arabic numerals. Every rectangular I look at, I come back to the Longines.
@@balesjo has a fantastic classy dial face
Why on earth would they put a microscopic date in this design
Tbh, the makers on the dial look a bit cluttered and the case could a a bit thinner.
It shouldn't really have date , it's out of place , the date display is so small it looks like after thought and out of place
Don’t understand the dots + indices + Arabic’s
Stylish but far too small for my taste and the movement accuracy seems rather poor (+11 secs a day ) for this brand/price.
WAY too small. Nice looking. But small.
Dial has too much going on

Rectangular........Do they want this watch to be popular or what? Lol that's a terrible name
It's not as classy as a Cartier but it's grown on me (I've looked at it for a couple of minutes, I'm not petty).
