Thanks for this video - nicely done. I actually own the Herbelin Art Deco. It is a fantastic time piece that both exudes Cartier Tank and JLC Reverso-esque vibes. Well-built and robust. The guilloche enhances the dial design and the cabochon on the crown is a nice homage to Cartier. I just also recently purchased the Vario Versa. A very unique timepiece - it is my "JLC Reverso GMT". Both scratched the rectangular dress watch itch. Keep up the great content!
Very cool, enjoy your Versa 👌 great watch. I've also just picked up a Herbelin Art Deco. Played around with it today on a few straps, super cool watch. Thanks for watching ⌚
@@TopTierTicker For the Vario Versa - aside from the wrist watch itself, it is great to have direct communication with the owners. And they are very attentive to their customers. The Herbelin Art Deco - we have a "his and hers". My wife has the bracelet and the pearl dial. Top quality and value for both Vario and Herbelin.
The Seiko SUP880 cannot be ignored here. It even comes in a solar variant. I have a vintage quartz version from the late 70's that belonged to my grandfather. It's incredible.
I wanted a “tank” in my collection, but I didn’t care for the look of the Cartier though. I ended up torn between the Hamilton Boulton, or the Bulova Frank Sinatra 'My Way' 98A261. Ended up with the Bulova. I love its art deco aesthetic. I have the two tone variant. I appreciate when a watch incorporates gold tone on the inside (à la Alpinist) so that I don’t really have to worry about marring the plating. Sure the name might just be a cash grab, but it’s a lovely little sharp angled thing if you like that kind of thing. I still wanna get the Hami for the exact opposite reason; its roundness loI. I think the roman numerals look crowded on the Cartier vs the Hamilton given its wider case. Just wanted to throw the My Way tank in there since It never gets mentioned. Like you said, Bulova does Art Deco well, therefore I consider it worth a look.
That was a great video. There’s also an Indian brand. Not sure if it’s still in production but I see several on Etsy. Tank looking but still unique. Cheers!
Watch this video and went for the Bergman UHR 1922. Ordered it from the company in Frankfurt, almost 4 weeks for free shipping, but for &28 well worth it. Love the watch, it's way better than the price. Aloha and Mahalo.
Soner and Herbelin are the best imo, they look great and it seems like its good quality + Soner offers so many options depending on the budget which is very good
Really nice selection! I was not aware of some of the brands at all, I like the De Guzman model. I was a bit surprised to see no Seiko in the list, I bought the SWR052P1 for 156 EUR last year. It is a quartz model with a very clean and simple look and a not-so bad strap for an affordable Seiko. It has a small blue (pseudo) crystal on the crown like the tank.
I like the Seiko, but it's been covered to death here on RUclips. I like to keep things as fresh as possible :) have nothing against it though, looks like a great watch!
I'd like to say thank you for suggesting the Bergmann but I found the following: For females or someone with tinier wrists, there is a smaller Bergmann 1922 and also, for a more 'Cartier Tank' feel there is the Bergmann 1917. Thanks for sharing this video!
@@TopTierTicker Hey, thanks for your reply. Can I ask for your opinion about the watch? I kind of want to get one for myself. How did you find the Bergmann, performance-wise, is it of good quality? Do you know if they offer some kind of water resistance?
Well done Kieron! Very insightful review. I'm sure it was no mean feat putting this together. Really interesting pieces... I think the 1st Seiko gets a lot of flack because it's wrongly categorised as a Tank homage though. I believe it's actually a Reverso homage, actually... The angular lugs hint at this, I think... Great video man! Keep up the great work. Cheers!
New subscriber here, Kieron. I've desired adding a Cartier tank to my collection for awhile now, after learning about the iconic piece. However, as an avid vintage tuning fork movement Bulova Accutron collector I had to pick up one of their homage pieces. I found one recently for a steal that I'm very happy with. Accutron did a fine job, and from what I can tell they copied the first tank model, the Normale, perfectly. The case dimensions are a match. As such it is a small watch even for those (like myself) with smaller than average male wrists. But, that's what the original size was. As the watch is only a two hander Accutron had two movements within their "stable" they could utilize, the larger 2183 or the smallest tuning fork movement ever made (which they chose) the 2210. The movement hums along at 440hz and keeps good time. I fit a grey suede vintage strap on it and am enjoying this Accutron homage of the Cartier Normale. 👍🏼
Great video and superb picks, especially that Hamilton! Definitely my favorite of the bunch. There's just a couple of things that great on me and they aren't your fault. One of them is this term "affordable." I know we have a general idea of what this means but it's honestly, completely meaningless. Affordability is tied to a personal situation. Affordability lives in the moment. Calling something affordable or not affordable is honestly about the most subjective measure you could possibly make. Whether or not a person thinks a watch is affordable depends not only on their net worth and their income, but expenses, temporary setbacks or problems, unexpected windfalls... I'm saying it doesn't just very person to person it varies moment to moment. What is affordable for one person is not affordable for another, and what is affordable to a particular person may not be affordable to them 6 months or 6 years down the line depending on how their life changes. I don't know that the word budget is any better. A 3 billion dollar budget is still a budget. I just I guess I'm searching for a word that conveys what we want affordable to convey without all the fuforah. The other thing I want to do address is the 3000 price tag of the tank. Cartier watches and for the most part all luxury Swiss watches do not sell on specs. You will never be able to get better specs better build better quality at a lower price and compete because people pay for the name and all they are paying for in some cases is the name. I do appreciate having cheaper alternatives to a watch that is currently out of reach, but the persistent ditch will be there because it is that particular thing that we want. but hell with it here's to scratching the itch for now 😁
I never really liked the look of Tank style watches, but the more I see of them plus you're infectious enthusiasm, the more I'm warming to the style. Amazing how many there are! That Lorier looks very classy....and unique. Great work Kieron, cheers 👍
Believe it or not, there's not actually many of them. It was a bit of a struggle to put this video together. I was stuck on 9 for hours, then finally decided to add the Hamilton. I was also on your boat! I didn't really enjoy the style of the tank for years... But the Sanda completely changed that. I'm not fully a rectangular dress watch enthusiast! And I love that Herbelin. I might just have to buy it 😆 Hope you're well Rik!
@@TopTierTicker I'm good thanks mate. I think I might just grab a Sanda to dip my toe in and see how I like wearing one. You've obviously worked hard on this list, some cracking pieces on there mate. Well done again! 👍

Longines Dolce Vita was a big omission. Worth looking at. Having said all that, just get a pre-owned Cartier.
