    Came back and watched this and learned a ton I missed the first time.
    1. On the reverb, his delay is low-passed at 3.8k. Then he cuts out all the low mids and pushes a little bit of highs to get the delayed verb to sit in the mix. You couldn't sculpt it so hard if you didnt low pass first.
    2. The vocal EQ curve ends up really just scooping out the mids - but also he's got a slight rolloff into the air frequencies because the boost is lower. I think this ~5.5k boost might be common on TLA rock mixes. I always thought the lack of air was a bunch of analog gear, but I think it's actually just boosting presence without a high shelf boost. *lightbulb moment* It's not the tools - it's how he's using them.

    • @assshakerstudios549
      @assshakerstudios549 3 года назад +1

      That's odd. For me it's CPU that hurt's with more plugins used. Are you using a lot of samples and whatnot? As Samples are more RAM based IME. On a cheap PC the CPU won't be as good as say a custom built PC. And nowadays is not the time to be building because of GPU costs, and overall inflation for parts due to the pandemic. Will probably happen for the next 2-3yrs. Best bet if your going to be looking in that time to upgrade your computer would be to buy a prebuilt computer with the right CPU, GPU, and whatever else you can get, then replace what you absolutely must have! For me I MUST HAVE Thunderbolt motherboard on my PC. Which means I have to go INTEL as AMD does not support Thunderbolt. So if I get say the Gigabyte Designare Motherboard(which is great for thunderbolt mobo's)I'll need to make sure everything fit's that when I wanna switch it out with the prebuilt stuff. And if it's pre-built watercooled...look out! That's a train-wreck right there so stay away if possible! Also to this day, AMD has all around issues with Sound based processing! Meaning everything from your plugin GUI's not displaying correctly with an AMD based GPU, to having your DAW crash all the time with crazy errors! Happened to me and I had to switch to Intel, even though the Gamers say AMD beats Intel, that's not true for stability in the recording studio! Just saying.

    Guess I'm not the only one who thought thought the sound of some plug-ins got worse after PT 5. The stock compressor in particular used to break up and distort beautifully when pushing the output. After PT 5.1 it became a sterile sounding utility tool. It's a shame it changed.

    • @bradylasserre9320
      @bradylasserre9320 3 года назад +1

      I'd much prefer a sterile comp for most applications. Too many comps on the market aim to color the sound and not the other way around.
      That break up wasn't a pleasing break up in my opinion.

      While I don't doubt that a lot of the vocals are repitched, they spent a shit load of time doing vocals if you watch The Machine behind the scenes of that albums recording. Tom sang really well on a lot of the vocal takes. Its a lot easier to get a good sound in your own home and studio where you're comfortable.
