Somewhere out there lies an alternate universe where three full seasons of Cop Rock exist. I am quite envious of that universe because 11 episodes is just not enough of this insane show.
The show's biggest mistake was probably debuting the same month as Law & Order. The goofy premise might have stood a remote chance had that not happened.
I remember watching several episodes of Cop Rock when I was a kid. It was ... surreal. I didn't know Ronny Cox and Paul McCrane (both from 'RoboCop') are in this. Some reunion! 😄
Yeah I remember reading a editorial in a TV Guide right after this failed and the editor said that the person that made Cop Rock took careful aim and shot themselves in the foot.
"Cop Rock, I think, goes beyond culture, beyond nations. It's just something which ties everyone together, it cannot be put in a box or define it." - artist Surabhi Gaikwad
🎶 "Let's be careful out there." I saw this show briefly back in the day and thought it was hilariously bad. But, at least they tried something different
The Greatest Showman is watched in my house every six months and I have never really been into musicals. You broke it down perfectly on why something like that works and this show did not.
I have seen musicals on Broadway. Honestly the best one I have ever seen was La Cage Aux Folles. Kelsey Grammer messed up a line and someone in the audience called him out. He broke the fourth wall and stopped mid scene and said "your right let's do that again". The started again from where he messed up. It was amazing.
The, infamously-annoying, Carol Channing had a, reaction which, was, decidedly more negative, when a similar gaffe occurred during her Broadway performance as Hello Dolly.
@@briandugas1648 Yeah, because, Kelsey Grammer has a sense of humor about himself, Carol Channing had a manner of speech that could generously be described as, "screeching," and, truly the worst aspect of that terrible voice, was, her stubborn refusal to accept the valid criticisms presented.
Bochco would later go on to really push for his adaptation of " 9/11: The Musical" on Broadway. But lack of enthusiasm, by any investors whatsoever, sidelined the project.
Every time I try to convince people that The Flying Nun was the single silliest concept ever brought to life on television, people chuckle at me and say two words. Those two words are Cop Rock.
Sad to say this show was ahead of its time because it would most likely work today. Masculine men are few and far between these days so cops singing show tunes would work today...that really hurt to have to accept
What happened to Cop Rock? Those of us who are old enough to have seen even one episode have spent the last 30 years trying to forget it and we really don't appreciate you bring it back up again. 🤪
IF they brought it back and went in a more Sledgehammer (talk about "gone, but not forgotten") parody direction (also have people who know broadway musicals behind it) then it might be worthwhile. Maybe The Rookie will do a one off musical episode...
I actually watched it back in the day and loved it. Granted, I haven't seen every episode. I think I started watching halfway through the run, but would set my VCR to tape it and keep the songs I liked. My favorites were Let's Be Careful Out There, Garbage In Garbage Out and You Lied. I tried to watch other episodes recently and...it's terrible. Still like the songs I liked.
I started watching the first episode and I thought it would be stupid and bad but in a funny way but I was just so bored that I turned it off after like 15 minutes!

This video is about seven minutes longer than the entire Cop Rock series run.

I watched every episode of this when it first aired. It was unique, it was ground-breaking, it was a travishamockery that it wasn’t saved.

I WAS SO HYPED for this show! I was 13 when it came out, it was insane!

Irony caused absolute hilarity.

@@matthewdaley746 ours was funny. Everyone laughed took a couple seconds and moved on like nothing happened.

Was born in 83, never heard of this, I don't recall ever hearing about it growing up, this made me laugh
“Better to have tried to rock and failed than to have never tried to rock at all” - Beavis
This has been a great find. Great breakdown, dude.
I remember when The Simpsons did a spoof of his voice. He sang a song entitled you made an enemy.
I remember being totally bewildered when this came out
that was hillarious. I bought the DVDs years ago but now I am watching it. "They said you are the ugliest woman they've ever seen"
The cast of Cop Rock was A+
This world would be a much more boring place if this show never existed.
Thank you for the music, Cop Rock! ;)
Greetings from Germany
They need to release a CD or Streaming Album of the full length music from Cop Rock. I love it.
Credit for trying something different, and JoBlo should have sung this entire episode.
I’ve been waiting for this one
I'm surprised David Arroyo didn't have Jesse break out into a musical number during the video.
I wouldn’t torture Jesse
Never even heard of it before!
You're just indescribably lucky.
Could a lawyer call for a mistrial if the jury starts singing?
That chick in the thumbnail has been a reoccurring dream presence since the 90s, know what I mean...
Bochco would later go on to really push for his adaptation of " 9/11: The Musical" on Broadway. But lack of enthusiasm, by any investors whatsoever, sidelined the project.
@16:46 what ep of ugly betty is this from because this gentleman's laugh is outstanding!
Season 3 episode 2
omg when Tomax and Xamot popped up, that was the first thing I was thinking of too. Spot-on.
Granted only 4 years when this came out but now I wanna watch it lmao. At least in the background.
Cop Rock proves that cocaine is a hell of a drug.
I salute your due diligence.
My dad was a cop and liked rock music so he wanted to watch this when I was a kid…after maybe 10 minutes he hated it.
This is like one of the shows Rick and Morty would come across as they were flipping through interdimensional cable.
Baby Merchant omfg too too funny
MST3K with the original line-up would have torn this show to shreds. Yeah I remember knowing of it
This could only be made in the 90s. LOL.Good review on a tv show that never should've been made tho.
can you do what happened to the tick?
Great video. Totally bizarre show
Every time I try to convince people that The Flying Nun was the single silliest concept ever brought to life on television, people chuckle at me and say two words. Those two words are Cop Rock.
This show screams to me "unfiltered theater kid ideas"
First Musical reference choice was the most recent that BLR parodied? Of course you did! 😂
The one thing I always remember, of course. Gulity! That’s when my sister and I were in stitches from laughing.
"Baby Merchant" is still stuck in my head.
All episodes are here on RUclips, I’m on ep 6. It’s kinda catchy…

Ronny Cox & Paul McCrane were in this... & Robocop?😆😆😆
I have the dvd! RIP Steven 🙏
LET'S BE CAREFUL OUT THERE... Fuckin' aye! Oh you'll listen to it and you'll fuckin' like it!
All I have to say is thank you. Thank you sir

OMG, this sounds like something they'd try on 'Brooklyn 99' XD
James Belushi also starred in this? Sweeet!
Still can't believe this was a thing.
For real
It thought it, was, a thing, truly hard to believe this, was, from the same visionary behind, L.A. Law, and, NYPD Blue, just amazing.
@@JoBloOriginals However, Guilty's, undeniably, hilarious.
@@matthewdaley746 Exactly!

Oh I remember this disaster when I was in my 20’s! Do you think the actors that are still around still feel the shame after 33 years?
Not according to my research. Surprisingly it has a cult following and they had fun

Was this past show the current
inspiration for SHMIGADOON ???
That “he’s guilty” song sounds an awful like the song “almost there” from the Disney cartoon The princess and the frog
This is an "Interdimensional Cable" episode from Rick & Morty in real life. I've seen it all now.
ah...the good old days
Trivia note: Sheryl Crow appeared on this show when she was starting out.
Watch the credits of the video
Why am I embarrassed for the actors? Also, the musical episode in Scrubs was awesome!
I might remember that TV show
Can we see an episode on the Flash (1990).
The mayor was none other than Barbara Bosson of Hill Street Blues, or Steven Bochco’s wife in real life.
Sad it was never released on Streaming!
it's right here on YT - the entire series, OR just the songs
I'm the one. I loved this show. Was pissed when it was cancelled.
I have the DVD set. I like the show.
You forgot to mention Ronny Cox has a singing dream sequence where he, a white man, is about to be lynched by a black mob.
I used a little of the footage
@@Arroyo2099 I probably didn't catch it. 🤔
Oh dear god I remember this Tv show !! Make the pain stop 📺👎👎
Yes!!!!! Lol I remember watching as a kid 😂
Gone But Not Forgotten: The original Walker Texas Ranger.
So was this a WTF happened or Gone but not forgotten?
The 20 year old rookie cop married the miscast 40 year old Ron McLarty from my old neighborhood in East Providence Rhode Island
Wow! Was this really a show? I can’t tell if you’re joking or not.
Nope completely real

Poor man watched the entire Riverdale series and is not in therapy 😅😂😅😂
Just an eye twitch but they say it will go away….eventually…..maybe
You love it
I was about 20 when this came on…it was very hit and miss, but it was actually okay
It wasn't Rock, it was Broadway. The title was dishonest. Some people liked it, but you need millions liking it to make a hit.
Remember this series? Yeah, me either.
If they made the show as a comedy (à la Naked Gun) with 3 songs max (for story a, b and c) i think it could've work... i think!?
Gone, and probably should have been forgotten. Lol
It was dumb... yep.. dumb...
I started watching the first episode and I thought it would be stupid and bad but in a funny way but I was just so bored that I turned it off after like 15 minutes!
13:42 I dunno, I thought he did a fantastic job...
Lol I never heard of this but what a joke of a show looks like an snl skit omg Randy Newman lol
Mad tv
NO, THIS DOESN'T NEED A REBOOT!
Awesome!
Baby Merchant is the most amazing song ever
Never heard of this show
Luckiest Person Alive, unquestionably.
this is awesome!!! Move over N.W.A.
Guys, no matter whatever happens.......lets be careful out there.
Cop who?
90s 'tude 😂
I’m sorry I loved cop rock lmao 😂
So,this is what cops see when they od on fentynol...
Watching this show is why I'm sterile

It wasn’t good, but nothing’s worse than ‘Hull High’!
