I absolutely loved Boy Meets World growing up, and still do - I still watch it. The thing that Boy Meets World did I was impressed by was it grew up with it's audience. It didn't try to still be in the 8th grade and have 8th grade problems after 5 seasons. They expressed issues, in realistic ways, for a 13 year old. And then the same for a 16 year old, and so on. The show and characters grew up along side the audience.
I adored this show growing up, and still do so today. For me, the heart of the show was Cory and Shawn's bromance. While they couldn't be more different, they were close as can be, and it's nice to see a wholesome friendship depicted between two young boys.

@@gabemorales7814 I understand your point of view. I think the wisdom in the show was the kids’ disregard for knowledge and culture. Not everyone who plays video games is lighted with a passion that carries into education/career/etc. Many are just being distracted from life. I’m very keen on my kids being up to date on pop culture. They can have the best of all worlds if they want. Hope you’re having a good day!
My biggest complaint with girl Meets World is it was entirely too focused on Riley. Boy Meets World while Ben Savage AKA Corey was the main focus of the show and the show was named after this Focus there were other story arcs that didn't have anything to do with Corey Matthews. And Girl Meets World it is so focused on Riley that Corey will stop teaching class just so Riley can have a conversation with Maya
Mine was just how Disney it felt early on, it actually got pretty great and started having that boy meets world feel after the first few episodes, but it was so annoying in the beginning partly because it was the Riley show, and they flanderized her from the start. Every character was so one dimensional and “weird” beyond rationale, I was so happy when they started actually dealing with real issues and relying more heavily on the boy meets world nostalgia, made it worth it!
Mine was that girl meets world kept telling you that Riley and Maya were best friends while boy meets world shows you that Cory and Sean were best friends. Everything felt a bit too forced and not real or sincere for me
Ditto. I rewatch it over and over and over and over and over again. Never gets old. Just wish it could have lasted longer. TGIF was freakin AWESOME, such a great lineup of shows.
Also Red Forman.. he was a no-nonsense guy, everybody went to him for advice, but he knew how to have fun too, and at the same time he was also the biggest disciplinarian of them all.
Eric's growing wackiness, paired with his growing wisdom, was my favorite thing about the show. I guess I shouldn't be surprised that someone would be offput by it, but his antics were fuckin hilarious and Will is charasmatic as hell. He was a definite driving force for the show to me, especially in the later seasons. I think we just got different taste.
I feel its important to mention that the Mathew’s parents are amazing. Theyre not bumbling oblivious idiots and have appropriate reactions. Plus - their lives arent all encompassed by their kids. They have their own relationship outside of the kids and foster it. Plus their professional goals. Left a huge impact on me as a kid on what a healthy marriage actually looks like.
7:39 that speech is STILL relevant to this day!! Only now this generation’s technology has become more advanced, yet it is used to as a platform to complain just for the sake of attention.
Boy meets world, as a show, meant so much to me actually showing the hardships of poverty, if even for a glimpse. Before this, whenever I saw “poor” families on tv the still had nice huge houses and always managed to come out of it ok. Shawn living in a trailer with an absentee father, and showing how ugly and difficult that all was meant a lot to me as a kid. I mean, he still went to college and turned out ok… there were people who cared for him no matter how bad he fucked up. And that was nice.
Thanks for posting this! One of the writers on the show was my speech professor in college. Had a direct impact on my life and many of my classmates, too.
I pretty much agree with you on the seasons, the last two I was like “can we just get a couple episodes where Shawn and Corey get along for more than a few days”? It’s like you couldn’t come up for air the last couple seasons because there was so much drama, although I didn’t notice that at the time…… it’s not an easy rewatch in the later seasons…..Nevertheless it’s still by far my most nostalgic sitcom probably because I was the same age and literally grew up with the actors along with the show….. I was in middle school when it came out and I was graduated when it wrapped up…the finale made me cry and that is not an easy feat
i remember the 4th wall breaking joke about Minkis that he was always in the show, but he was sitting in the classroom where the camera doesn't show, same for the cool teacher who went missing for no reason.
Honestly, this is one of the most important shows aimed at teens of all time. It tackles so many hard issues and big subjects in a great way. I think they used the right level of campiness with certain subjects (prom night) and they let others really resonate with a distinct lack of comedy (drinking episode and death of the lunch lady). I even think you can learn a lot from the college years seasons as well and while Eric becomes more and more of a cartoon, I think he's a prime example of how quickly someone can fall off the rails when they struggle to find their purpose. I thought he was great with his dad as a store owner and needed to follow that path. Or he needed to go back into TV seeing how well he did on the news job. If anything, the show didn't do enough to resolve why he became a cartoon character. They tried to rectify that in Girl Meets World, but it needed to happen before the finale of Boy Meets World. PS. Not fixating on the interracial aspect of Shawn and Angela was brilliant. It's not something that needs to be tackled of overcome on this show. The biggest lesson to be learned at that time was that it can be viewed as normal without making a fuss. The absence of commentary speaks louder than any commentary ever could have.
@26:00.....no way in the wide world of hell is she forcing those doors open!! As a New Yorker, i love that this made you so mad, cause every other person that lives here who is watching this is screaming the same exact thing!!! THANK YOU!!!!
This show always had a different vibe from other sitcoms. To me it felt like a mix of after school special and silly 90s comedy. I enjoyed the touches of drama and sentimentality, especially in the high school seasons
Cory Matthews and Shawn Hunter are my favorite pair of best friends in any television show. You really believed that they were friends. There's even one episode where Cory says to Shawn "You're like my brother.", and Shawn says "What are you talking about? You are my brother." And William McDaniels as George Feeney is one of the all-time greats.
Anyone remember when Minkas showed up again in I think the final season? They asked him where he's been all this time and he says "Over there" and they point or nod or something to off the set/behind the camera and wonder why they never go over there. Hahaha!
Eric was literally the best part of the entire series. He kept getting better every season as he got stupider. The greatest comedic character in all sitcoms ever.
Great episode! Loved Boy Meets World and had an obvious crush on Danielle Fishel! Was always so jealous of Rider Strong because all the girls in my class were so into him….but got mad respect for him when he starred in Cabin Fever! 😂
I dropped Girl Meets World after the first episode, but maybe I need to go back and give it more time. Mr. Feeney was iconic in my childhood. I am a teacher now, and I always hope that my students can look up to me and learn from me in the same way. I teach English, but in my classes, I also try to teach about life.
I HATE the cheating storyline, he takes no ownership whatsoever. Topanga and Cory were soooooo toxic. I wish the show focused more on Shawn and Angela.
Born in 1991 & grew up watching Boy Meets World, I had ALWAYS LOVED everything about this show!!! Between the various student relationships with each other as WELL as the relationship which Mr. Feeney had with each of his students. It made me WANT to have a teacher like him!!!😊
I think when people do retrospects now of BMW William Russ is overlooked. I loved this show growing up, and still do. So much to the point that over the years my friends and family have bought me random seasons over the years until I had the full set. It’s a great show for a lot of reasons, but I think Russ kind of sums it up. He’s grounded, then funny, then serious in such a real way, then grounded, then funny. The “average Cory” episode really is the epitome of that. It has the best bit in the entire show (the celery poster) and (imo) the best dramatic moment when Alan takes Cory to the store he worked at as a teenager. “I strived for mediocre” his character is so fucking good. Betsy is fantastic too. A real power couple. The rest of the cast is also fantastic. Honestly, the best family friendly sitcom of all time, and I don’t think it’s close.
Even though I was born 13 years after the start of this show it still impacted me on a personal level. I've finished this show as of 2023 and even though this show is over 20 years old it helped me understand a lot about growing up and dealing with teen issues and early adulthood. I think a lot of what it is, is that it made me think about the future in a lot of ways and personally I put those thoughts off due to my own fear of the future. I also enjoyed the goofiness of the show and its character development and even though it wasn't perfect in my heart I will always cherish it forever.
I didn't watch a lot of TV growing up. But this was one of the few shows I was allowed to pick to watch each week. Then it was rerun so much later I was able to catch up. My son was about the same age as Riley when GMW came out. So it was a real wammy of flashbacks. So we ended up liking it. For a long time fan it felt like a final send off for the OG characters and wrapped their stories up nicely.
BOY MEETS WORLD was never intended to be or possibly be a Wonder Years type show it was originally just about what life is like with a boy living next door to his teacher However as time went on and the series kept coming back year after year it was becoming The Wonders Years reboot no one ever saw coming. After that the show began dealing with a boy named Cory Mathew’s as he journeys from Elementary School to Junior High to High School then too College and then eventually the real world. Along the way his teacher and mentor MR Feeny teaches him lessons not only about school but life as well also the incredible love story between Cory and Topanga the girl next door the girl he thought was weird but sort of always liked her but then eventually got with her and they faced many challenges over the years but in the end they lived happily ever after. Cory’s best friend Shawn Hunter became a ever bigger character than Cory at times because the show focused on his struggles growing up in a trailer park and his mom running out on him and his dad neglecting him he soon goes to live with a teacher named MR Turner who is sort of like his teacher and mentor. Shawn is a ladies and dates lots of girl but eventually settles down but he faces many challenges and obstacles but overcomes anything and everything that is thrown at him and succeeds to everyone’s highest expectations. Eric Mathew’s evolves a lot too and becomes MR Feenys shadow and philosopher of life well so he thinks. The Parents there friends to bullies to every situation and moment this show became something very different and very special Wonder Years of the 90s
3 minutes into the video, multiple mentions of William Daniels...., and not one clip of a single "Feeeeney!!!" from Friedle?!!! You are dropping the ball...
The college years I thought were the best. I don't know what you were talking about. All the new characters and everything that came with it was golden perfection.
This + The wonder years were phenomenal shows that captured what it was like to be kids in their set time periods. I wish they had made one similarly for the kids growing up from 1998-2005 as the internet became a booming technology.
A true fan has all the seasons on DVD and has watched the series at _least_ 5x. I was in my teens during the show's TGIF heyday. I was actually the same age as the main characters and could relate to most of the stories.
I still remember the time Feeny held up some material and was like, this shits strong and durable but the tiniest rip,and it all comes apart. I don’t know if I’ll ever forget some the stuff Feeny said
I'm currently finishing up Girl Meets World and I'm glad to see that you liked it. I'm loving it and it follows BMW's footsteps in having episodes that dealt with complicated topics but simplified it enough for young 'uns. Plus both leads were awesome. Riley stayed positive in all 3 seasons but never got annoying, unlike Corey in BMW. I just wish Eric appeared more. I agree as well that while BMW got worst and Eric's character became more caricaturish, Will's acting just made the show so entertaining that I still got sucked in to finishing the show. Him being Batman and Ron Stoppable just made everything so much sweeter.
Actually she was more mature in the first season, cause she was being herself and had a depth to her, that got lost when she decided to be more into her looks, to care about people's opinions, to act like a spoilt little girl while still wanting a grown up relationship with her boyfriend... I mean she ran away at 16 cause she couldn't fathom being without Cory, then went the completely opposite way when her parents divorced and made it all about her and how she felt like love isn't even real, even though she had examples of all kinds around her. She went from an altruistic child to a pretty egotistic teen/adult. Also the fact that she still beat Minkus for Valedictorian was ridiculous because he was in the advanced class, it should've been a no brainer and a teachable moment on how she dropped the ball, academically.
I was born in 1989 but I actually grew up watching and loving The Wonder Years, it wasn’t until around like 1998 or 1999 until I caught onto Boy Meets World because Disney started playing it alot
I disagree. Their college years were always my favorite because I loved Will Friedle's change! He was so funny in college, to me he actually became the real star of the show.
I loved this show as a kid. I tried watching that spinoff sequel show on Disney Channel but it just wasn't the same. Also love that one of the girls i had a crush on in original series as a kid, is now an adult film star. Maitland Ward. :) Also i'm not sure why the narrator is so upset about the Jacobs guy not wanting race to be a central point. That sounds like how it SHOULD be. You can have an interracial couple without virtue signaling about it in magazines and treating it like its a weird oddity. That makes seems backwards.
Earlier this year, I bought a DVD boxset of the entire series off Amazon, and spent a God several weeks marathoning through the whole thing. Such a criminally underrated show, and it would often tackle subjects other family-targeted sitcoms in the 90s wouldn't go anywhere near. So good.
Eric's character did get way over the top but I still always found him really funny but he could still convincingly pull a dramatic moment too. I remember when he had a glimpse of the future and he became "Plays With Squirrels" that shit still makes me laugh
I find it interesting that you’re doing a video on boy meets world and I am currently re-watching it all over again excellent show I thoroughly enjoyed it as a child in a third of a enjoyed as a 40 year old man
I agree about TK. She was one character who could've continued on and not just as Harley Keiner's sister, but also as a bully for Topanga, and maybe a potential love interest for Shawn, since they were both rebels who were fast moving about relationships, and they had parental issues and troublemakers for brothers(Eddie Hunter was introduced just once later on). If Minkus stayed on the show then he would've been an even easier target for Harley Keiner than Cory was, though he had the smarts to defend himself better. I also preferred Topanga how she was in the first season of the show. She might not have appealed to viewers in the way her co-stars did but she stood out for her uniqueness.
I have very fond memories of this show, apparently so much so...I even oddly remembered practically every clip shown. Especially when Corey cheated, the bully girlfriend, and the obsessed girlfriend too. Likely because I thought they were pretty as I was exactly the same age as Corey at the time. The show was, especially the first two seasons, was so witty. I also VIVIDLY remember Minkis!
I loved this show growing up. Great video! Also Minkus returned for a cameo in the later season. The cast did a funny bit in the scene where they broke the fourth wall addressing it.
Dropping Minkus was, imo, the biggest mistake of the series. He was great in season 1, but could have the final few years (late hs and college) so much better.
This show was one of my favorites growing up. The casting was magnificent and the chemistry between them was mostly wonderful. It could make you laugh and sucker punch your feels. I still have warm, fuzzy feelings when I just hear the name (let alone think about the show). One thing I wanted to express: The Geek Party episode. It was one of my favorite episodes. So when they made the sequel series AND they had a Geek Party episode, I was ecstatic. And then the episode happened. Corey didn't even seem to remember his own Geek Party experience. All I would have wanted was a nod of recognition and a "Ah, Geek Party". It didn't have to be much, but a simple nod to the original fans. Instead, Corey the dad had to be informed by his daughter's best friend what was happening, because apparently he is a clueless adult. It killed my enthusiasm. I know it was a small thing, but that is how it made me feel.

Seen it happen too many times. There's a reason we're facing a teacher shortage now.
Yeah, because kids create and buy the technology they consume.
Adult-centrism is strong in these ones...
Every character was so one dimensional and “weird” beyond rationale, I was so happy when they started actually dealing with real issues and relying more heavily on the boy meets world nostalgia, made it worth it!
exactly! In BMW, Cory’s Family was main characters! They helped Cory grow! But GMW, it felt like Cory and Topanga was side characters.
Mine was that girl meets world kept telling you that Riley and Maya were best friends while boy meets world shows you that Cory and Sean were best friends. Everything felt a bit too forced and not real or sincere for me
@@shreebubblesExactly and in such a Disney way
@@shreebubbles exactly
Boy Meets World worked by having relevant issues incorporated into a sitcom, and still be an enduring show
Shawn had the most depth of any character. I’ll never forget that poem about Angela (which was mind-blowing that Rider Strong wrote it) ❤️
One of my favorite TV shows ever
Same here.
Ditto. I rewatch it over and over and over and over and over again. Never gets old. Just wish it could have lasted longer. TGIF was freakin AWESOME, such a great lineup of shows.
@@slimshead8100 how many times have you seen this show? 5 times? 6?
Alan Matthews is my favorite TV dad. And a refreshing change from so many TV shows that treat the dad as a bafoon.
Sean's dad was a good buffoon
Also Red Forman.. he was a no-nonsense guy, everybody went to him for advice, but he knew how to have fun too, and at the same time he was also the biggest disciplinarian of them all.
Say what you will about Eric in the later seasons, but the later seasons Eric gave us “plays with squirrels” 😂
"Mr. Matthews?"
"Mr. Squirrels"
"ERIC?"
"Plays With"
loooooooool
It's me Manifesto!!!!!!!
I think we just got different taste.
one of the funniest calls backs on Girl meets world, they had both actresses who played morgan return. they were both on screen playing one person.
All the seasons of Boy Meets World are awesome, college years are personally my favorites as I'm older now and can relate more to it
7:39 that speech is STILL relevant to this day!!
Right? Good observation, I'm with you on that.
Mr. Turner
@@joecollas9942 yup, the cool teach , got in an accident and had a really dramatic arc then poof , gone.
I related to this show so much growing up. I still have my marathons every now and then. I love it very much 🥰.
You're so right about Linda Cardellini. Like Topanga and her were two of my biggest crushes from the 90s and holy shit what a tough choice.
I agree, in the 90’s we were taught that was the best way to deal with race, simply treat people like people.
@26:00.....no way in the wide world of hell is she forcing those doors open!! As a New Yorker, i love that this made you so mad, cause every other person that lives here who is watching this is screaming the same exact thing!!! THANK YOU!!!!
Your welcome I have many a bruise because of those damn doors
This show always had a different vibe from other sitcoms. To me it felt like a mix of after school special and silly 90s comedy. I enjoyed the touches of drama and sentimentality, especially in the high school seasons
Cory Matthews and Shawn Hunter are my favorite pair of best friends in any television show. You really believed that they were friends. There's even one episode where Cory says to Shawn "You're like my brother.", and Shawn says "What are you talking about? You are my brother." And William McDaniels as George Feeney is one of the all-time greats.
As a kid in the 90s, we truly had it made: Topanga and Myra on Friday nights, and the Pink Ranger. That's a top 3 that no other decade can really top
Another very well-written episode, David. Great job.
Anyone remember when Minkas showed up again in I think the final season? They asked him where he's been all this time and he says "Over there" and they point or nod or something to off the set/behind the camera and wonder why they never go over there. Hahaha!
I love this show . When Disney+ came out I binged this for days
Eric was literally the best part of the entire series. He kept getting better every season as he got stupider. The greatest comedic character in all sitcoms ever.
Idk his moments with Tommy is beautiful then he just doesn't get any character depth ever again. I find him annoying tho :((
So glad you did this. Such a beautiful memory ignited and you do a great job representing it 😊
For Trina to be 28 and a mother of 5, she looked fantastic on the show. She still looks good too.
One of the funniest lines that makes me laugh every time that I hear it is. "What's a Topanga"?
I am 50 and watched every episode again I loved the show. Mr. feeny kicked ASS
I watched Boy Meets World with my mom every week when I was a kid. Good times.
Great episode! Loved Boy Meets World and had an obvious crush on Danielle Fishel! Was always so jealous of Rider Strong because all the girls in my class were so into him….but got mad respect for him when he starred in Cabin Fever! 😂
“I don’t wanna spoil it” the show came out in the 90s. I think it’s cool to go into detail 😂
Just do the episodes that bring back the original those are the only ones that are watchable
It made me WANT to have a teacher like him!!!😊
First time watcher. My world got smaller when I heard that Nulberry cover over the credits. Take me road, country home.
BOY MEETS WORLD was never intended to be or possibly be a Wonder Years type show it was originally just about what life is like with a boy living next door to his teacher
However as time went on and the series kept coming back year after year it was becoming The Wonders Years reboot no one ever saw coming.
The Parents there friends to bullies to every situation and moment this show became something very different and very special
Wonder Years of the 90s
Everything I know about love and life came from the show …..love this show forever
It’s hilarious that throughout the series Corey went from a fun loving teenager to seemingly acting like an old Jewish man.
Bravo I feel like a kid all over again this really made my night
3 minutes into the video, multiple mentions of William Daniels...., and not one clip of a single "Feeeeney!!!" from Friedle?!!!
You are dropping the ball...
The college years I thought were the best. I don't know what you were talking about. All the new characters and everything that came with it was golden perfection.
The episode at 17:15, that one was such a hard episode to not relate to because we've all known that one kid we did wrong and never apologized to.
To each their own but Shawn and Corey had the best chemistry out of the whole cast, maybe challenged by Eric and Feeney.
This + The wonder years were phenomenal shows that captured what it was like to be kids in their set time periods. I wish they had made one similarly for the kids growing up from 1998-2005 as the internet became a booming technology.
🤣😂🤣 That little girl opening up those subway car doors was hysterical!
One of my favourites Sitcoms!!!! Thanks for the Video Jo Blo originals!!!!
Boy meets world was my favorite show growing up
I'm a recent Boy Meets World fan, I seen every season this year.
A true fan has all the seasons on DVD and has watched the series at _least_ 5x. I was in my teens during the show's TGIF heyday. I was actually the same age as the main characters and could relate to most of the stories.
I love that the parents, especially the dad, AREN'T idiots. They are smart and wise and actually parent.
One of the craziest things that happened to one of the actors in this show: Maitland Ward became a full-fledged adult film actress. Look it up.
Shocked he didn't touch on that. Maybe not wanna give the wrong message.
I still remember the time Feeny held up some material and was like, this shits strong and durable but the tiniest rip,and it all comes apart. I don’t know if I’ll ever forget some the stuff Feeny said
I love the college shows, sad that nobody else seems to like it...
I've started rewatching this with my kids, who are 9 and 8 and I'm so happy they've fallen in love with this show's humor and its heart.
"You deserve what you get"
Damn....really called that😢
Great video thank you - a show from my youth, rewatched them a few years ago and still loved it
The cast and producers said once topanga hit high school she had to become more of a normal teenager so she would have to be popular
you expected topanga to remain like that through adulthood? People mature and change. I think they showed that quite well with many characters.
Also i'm not sure why the narrator is so upset about the Jacobs guy not wanting race to be a central point. That sounds like how it SHOULD be. You can have an interracial couple without virtue signaling about it in magazines and treating it like its a weird oddity. That makes seems backwards.
god..... watching that Mr. feeny clip.... really took me back and reminded me of how good that show was in those moments....
Earlier this year, I bought a DVD boxset of the entire series off Amazon, and spent a God several weeks marathoning through the whole thing. Such a criminally underrated show, and it would often tackle subjects other family-targeted sitcoms in the 90s wouldn't go anywhere near. So good.
It went for 7 seasons, it wasn't underrated at all
Random question lol Did the box set have any bonus features?
@@lilymaria0214 yes
Angela Moore was my favorite part of the show!
Eric's character did get way over the top but I still always found him really funny but he could still convincingly pull a dramatic moment too. I remember when he had a glimpse of the future and he became "Plays With Squirrels" that shit still makes me laugh
I find it interesting that you’re doing a video on boy meets world and I am currently re-watching it all over again excellent show I thoroughly enjoyed it as a child in a third of a enjoyed as a 40 year old man
I had totally forgotten this show! I had such a crush on Danielle Fishel
In answer to the first question, the show is better than we remember. They don't make things like this anymore.
From both the shows (bmw and gmw) I love rider and sabrina the most. Their storyline how it started and how it end up together was amazing .
7:45
Dude I never forgot these lines and this moment either.
I loved the Wonder Years when I was a young kid and loved Boy Meets World when I was a teenager.
I get all of my life lessons from Boy Meets World
I agree about TK.
Boy meets world is all time classic sitcom! My fav by far
And in girl meets world
Dropping Minkus was, imo, the biggest mistake of the series. He was great in season 1, but could have the final few years (late hs and college) so much better.
I love this video!!!!!!
Thanks
Today was dress as your fav decade for my high school and I choose the 90s fashion when I watched Boy meets world on Disney plus
BMW still holds up. I'd also say it's even better now that I'm older.
This was my favorite tgi Friday show. You just made me want to binge watch this. Challenge Accepted! Great video!
Thanks
Holy crap!!!!! I didn't know Angela was a whole adult!
