- If you have managed to find the Hasbro Star Wars vintage collection figures then you will probably want to remove the huge sticker they stuck on the front of the cards. This video shows you how to do that.
And if you got the European version you may also want to remove the massive white leaflet they stick behind each figure. So I show that as well.

You sir are a Jedi when it comes to fixing toys😁
I've used lighter fluid on the blister too. Apply to one side, top and bottom and "hinge" the blister open.
youre saying you don't have to cut the blister open????
@@shadowgb yes that worked for me too.
@@shadowgb Correctomundo.
@@shadowgb Yep. Look at the bottom of the blister where there's a small opening between the card and blister -- start by squirting some lighter fluid between the two, and gently work your way up (squirting the fluid and carefully splitting the blister from the card). On the Last Jedi and SOLO cards, squirt the fluid along the left side where the blister meets the card, and start from there.
Nice! I’ve tried the lighter fluid and it works great
Hi Dave, this has been very helpful as always. Thank you
In the past, i used a blow dryer to heat up the stickers a bit, it was easier to peel them off afterwards, but lighter fluid seems to work so well!!!!!
Looks so much better!
Nice job Dave. 👏👏👏
Thanks for the tip already taken 2 stickers off look so much better on display...
Brilliant sir, literally just tried this and it worked perfectly! I honestly had no idea it could do that especially on such large stickers.
A hairdryer might soften the glue on the blister if you do it carefully.
Mineral Turpentine works too.
Great idea. I actually bought double of each to have loose and carded. Whoever thought to do that with the pamphlet is a real Einstein knowing the vast majority of people who would buy these are the long term fans. Great solution.
OK ,I was wrong you didn't just use a hairdryer, but please try the hairdryer method ad its excellent.
Newly subscribed to the channel. you've seen the videos and you've done a great job. Congratulations
greetings from Mexicali, Baja California in Mexico.
Good video as always, perhaps a video on how to paint/ink over the faux aging around the side of the cards. It’s something I have thought about but wouldn’t want to mess up. Thank you.
Forgot to mention, this was a great blast from the past as it were, as I had the original figures when I was a kid
If you soak the card around the blister with acetone, the blister will just pop off the card. You can then remove the warning sheet and then glue the card back on using some glue stick.
I use UN-DU adhesive remover for stickers. Even on 50 + year old lithograph. It safely neutralizes the sticker adhesive long enough for removal, and the sticker can be re used after if desired.
I think the lighter fluid will lift up the glue on the figures shell too, so you don’t have to cut it. People use lighter fluid on hot wheels packages to take the car out
Great vid, will do this to my set. I also have security tags on the back of mine, those I know will rip the card if I try and remove them
White wine is also good for removing stickers if you have run out of lighter fluid and yes it tastes better too!
Just wanted to leave a comment that this video inspired me to go out and buy these newer carded Star Wars figures. The lighter fluid works like a charm and I have these carded figures displayed in my home office, and I'm wanting to get more toys from my childhood. As a result, it has inspired my college-aged sons to go out and buy similar collectibles figures to display. It's now something I share with them, comparing my original and retro figures with their newer releases. Sorry to see you're getting some awful criticism online about what you do. Just wanted to let you know my kids and I appreciate your work! Keep the videos coming!
Thanks Leo. Glad you have got so much out of my videos. That's great to hear.
Do you think the chemicals of the lighter fluid can damage the card over time? Have you ever tried the hair dryer method?
drugstore chloredric ether also works very well
Glad to hear that's a sticker - I thought it was part of the paint-job. These are great figures but I hate that they give them that distressed look. You can get original cards that look better than that
The lighter fluid has Naphtha which dissolves glue quite nicely. Rubber Cement thinner (Bestine) does the job very well as well.
Vapors can be harmful. A very thin knife blade will lift the blister and then a thin coat of stranded white glue puts it and any paper back in place and is not noticeable.
Interesting. I got mine from Darkside Toys, which is a UK online distributor. They all had the sticker, which I removed, but none have the leaflet in the bubble. I guess I got lucky ordering from them.
Couldn't agree more that these should be played with!!!! All my friends are keeping their figs on card but removed the sticker. I cant help but think a MOC WITH the sticker could become an expensive collectable in the future. lol
@ENDZEIT DE in his review video I made a comment saying I super glued the blaster to the Storm Troopers hand. He holds it well now.
You did that well! I have a spare wave, so I might do it (remove sticker) Dunno if I'm gonna go as far as remove leaflet as I don't wanna breach the bubble, but great vid! 💙👌🏻 O.O.K
Yes, action figures are for play, glad to hear someone say it out loud! Keep up the good work Dave
Love a lighter fluid episode!👍🏻
i like retro n vintage toys
How can we remove the Disney Logo on the back? LOL!!!
Use the lighter fluid to release the bubble on one side and then take a clear drying glue for archival paper and seal it back up. I've done this with Hot Wheels cars that have popped open and they seal perfectly. Will it needs to be archival so that it never yellows.
That looks much better! Do you have any techniques for removing bubbles without damaging the card underneath, perchance?
@@One-Eyed-Willys-Rich-Stuff I tried that once, and it didn't work, so I have been loath to try it again. Is there a specific trick to it?
@Toy Polloi Do brands of lighter fluid make a difference? I can only seem to find Clipper brand locally. I assume it's lighter fluid - It says "Fluid. Excellent for cleaning" on the tin.
I've used many over the years and they all seem to work the same. But do a test first to make sure. Cheers
Thanms for these vieeos on the retro figures! Awesome videos! Here in the US we have a product called Goo Gone, it's a citrus based sticker remover, I wonder if that would work as well, if you don't have or want to buy Lighter fluid?
M P I’ve used goo gone and it’s not as good as lighter fluid. Soaks into the card and leaves a water damaged like effect on it.
Words to me ears to open and play with
Would the Lighter Fluid method work on book covers too? I only ask as I buy a few from charity shops and they have the frustrating habit of slapping a huge sticker across the front cover.
It should work fine. Do a quick test on one to check.
I saw a video on a different channel about how easy it is to fake "factory error" Hot Wheels cars as "mint on card" by soaking acetone through the back of the card to the blister to loosen the glue without damaging anything, modifying the car, and then gluing it all back together. I don't know if it works on all prints but the video I saw did it to a few dozen cars of various ages to show how easy it is (and to not trust people selling "factory error" cars because it is way too easy to fake them).
Acetone will strip the print from the cards.
The information leaflet, which I could probably guarantee nobody has ever read. I never have, and I save them as kindling to light barbecues with. I've opened my figures, but hated the huge sticker, the faux damage on the card, and the flimsiness of those cards. I still have my original 'Palitoy' cards, and compared to the new ones, they're really butch and stubborn. Oh, and the 'big head' Han Solo. There's a nice Bespin Han Solo head waiting for him.
You can use acetone on a cotton bud, to loosen the glue on the blister. It always used to work, unless the glue formulation has been changed.
Acetone strips the print from the card.
Want to remove the retro sticker off a Boba Fett (always liked the ESB card for him) however a portion of the sticker is underneath the blister 😫
That's interesting, but annoying. So they put the sticker on before mounting the figure on the card. Weird.
Did they put the leaflet under the feet in the second wave? Here in Canada it’s folded up under my boba fetts feet
I hope so. I've yet to get my order of wave two.
Hey toy polloi have you seen the super Mario brothers movie There’s a character named GOOMBA and his cape is impossible to fine could you make one for us?
Would removing the sticker affect getting a higher AFA Grade?
🤣
i wounder if a black marker would delete the fake aging on the edges?
cuda70gt I don't have any of these retro figs, but I have seen people do the black marker trick with old black border baseball cards. Perhaps if I one used a light touch and then rubbed the ink with their finger right away to smooth it out?
@@rumblehat4357 could work, worth a shot
Great ! Does it work with price tags?
It does indeed.
@@toypolloi thanks!
2:34 tweezer maybe?
Did u know the hasbro ghostbusters toys have paper work?
All modern toys seem to have it. Part of the legal requirements I guess.
After the sticker is removed, do you still see some discoloration on the card where the sticker was located? Like it left it's mark. :)
No, you wouldn't even know it had been there.
@@toypolloi Immediately after I removed the sticker using lighter fluid, there was a "shadow" of where the sticker used to be. Maybe it's more noticeable on the Tarkin card because the location of the sticker is in a black/dark gray area. Also, you can only see is at certain angles, not straight on. Thanks for the reply.
So the dark spot disappeared! I did the rest of wave 1 and 2 and they look fantastic!
This did not work for me at all. I don’t know if the lighter fluid is different or what but the sticker didn’t come off clean
Did you put lots on and let it soak for a while?
Would some acetone on the back of the card allow you to lift one edge of the blister? I know glossy cards can be trickier when it comes to acetone. Also, that leaflet is just one more reason why the UK needs to leave the EU.
don't use acetone, it will destroy the inks
Gumba 213 I’ve used acetone on cards before to remove blisters. No ink damage. You can also run a line of acetone on the front of the card along the edge of the blister side you want to lift. If careful, and you angle the card so the acetone runs away from the inside of the blister it can be done. Patience is needed.
What a shame to put that sticker right on top of the wonderful photography. They at least could have put a smaller one near the top. Thanks for the fix!
Has anyone tired Goo Gone on these types of stickers?
Geez, the EU can't even do action figures right.
That's a good trick with the lighter fluid. But, it doesn't work with the glue on the bubble? P.S. another reason to leave the E.U.
Run lighter fluid on the back of the card where the blister is - then you are able to remove the blister and figure but you can also reattach the blister back to the card if you wish.👍👍👍👍
Soak lighter fluid into the back of the card where the bubble attaches do it several times until it soaked through the card into the glue that holds the bubble on ,
Then once it gets through you can pull the bubble off without any damage then re attach once you have removed the leaflet,
Your welcome😀
about the Metal what’s best to re attach the bubble with? I have a couple retro collection pre ordered from the ESB line and plan on removing the sticker and leaflet, will be following this video in regards to the sticker and following your instructions in regards to removing the leaflet, just wondering what would be the best way to reattach the bubble? Thanks
Doesn’t this decrease the value
The ghastly mass of EU regulations that everyone ignores anyway is a blight on these figures
Hasbro is a piece of work. I know no one will believe me, but they pretty much stole my idea for Beast Wars transformers.
man am I glad I don't live in the UK.
