I remember being mesmerized by the Kenner C-3PO as a kid. He was my first figure and I would stare at how cool he was. Mind you that back in the 70s we had some cool figures but none that shiny and golden. Then you put R2 next to him and even better together! I am glad you like the retro collection Nick. You are an old soul.
I had them all as a kid - still have them 45 years later! Great video OOK!
I love how you mix the various eras of figures, it just feels very fun and like a time capsule!
Great tour of your collection!
"Impressive, most impressive."
Must admit, the Jawa, Sandperson and the droids are the only Retro figures that tempt me. The sticker completely came off my childhood R2 but I still have him and all my original Kenner figures in varying states of well-lovedness. All Things 80s has some good side-by-side comparisons and these six are significantly better than the first six retro figures.
Yesh, I love Dean, and seen his vid too for sure 👍🏻
I think it’s fine that they aren’t exact replicas, they are good enough I bought them all on sale it was totally worth it if you like vintage ‘80’s simplicity. I have most of the vintage ones too, and there are definitely differences which protect the vintage market.
They did start making the figures in 1978. I think they just gave it a 1977 copyright date since that's the year the movie came out. Excellent set up or Retro Collection Star Wars Action Figures! Also excellent diorama setups of vintage and modern figures colliding !
As well as having the retro collection, I still have my original Palitoy 12 figures. My Dad bought me the first 8 in the Autumn of 1978 and the remaining 4 I collected by Christmas 1978. For me The British Palitoy cards looked far better than the American Kenner. I am thinking of recarding my original 12 on repo Palitoy cards.
Your knife skills had me on edge 😅
Great collection 👏🏻
I had the death squad commander the only one of these I had . Had most of the empire line and rotj line
1978 when SW items hit the store shelves it was perfect timing, I was 14 yrs old and my younger brother loved and wanted the SW figures ,ship’s ,vehicles. What made it perfect is that summer I had a summer job making about $2 an hour 40 hours a week ,but that summer every pay check we added and built our SW collection ships ,vehicles and figures. And that following December we received the DeathStar. 1978 was a yr to remember.
I love this set, really enjoying all the Retro releases, I had every one of these figures as a kid of the 70's, but sadly got rid of them all. I'm keeping all my Retros together at the moment, away from my modern, but I like how you have sprinkled them amongst your collection.
Thanks man 🙏🥰
I love this set. Was surprised that the 3po was removable limbs? But what ever so cool
The R2 and 3PO are superb but I thought the head sculpt for the Obi-Wan is disappointing compared to the original.
i get what ya mean when u say smell of the figures...i aint had no star wars figures in over 30 yrs but i still remember that smell...found a few old figures few mnths bk and dam it took me right bk to bein in the shop as a kid seein all the figures hangin up....if i only knew theyd be this big now and collectable....i used to just rip open the boxs...includin all the ships...dam i sold them all bout 30 yrs ago for like £10. wish i still had them...
I pre-ordered the set from Pulse and it arrived a few months back now, and I wanted to keep them on card (the cards were good). I just saw them individually listed from a seller on Ebay (as low bids) and thought why not have a few bids and get them to open - anyway, I won all of them except the Jawa (which I wasn't too bothered about) and the total incl. p&p came to £70.16 :D
I could've just bought another set from Pulse for £70.99 !!!! - what a dongle! Shows you can get carried away when bidding on auctions.
I love the retro style, I only collect this so I love mando retro
Was it just me that was emotional when 3-P0 and R2 were together? I know TVC are great but nothing beats the nostalgia of opening these Retro figures, I was there first time around and my first ever figure was R2 in 78’ , I still have him in bits and a hand drawn decal plus a carded Jedi one. I’m hoping this set comes back into stock or out individually cos they was out of stock when I tried !
🥰👌🏼💙
The plastic on these is slightly gummier, and as you said almost translucent because it's less dense. Odd. This set contains three of the figs I most wanted but never got back in the day.
I always liked the Death Squad Commander, even as a kid I lked him, probably because he was one of my first Star Wars figure. 💪🤓
Nice video I have mine on the way plus I'm building the early bird display stand
Nice 😉👌🏼
I can't believe that c-3po is a removable limbs
Great video of some fantastic figures! I’m really loving the retro collection right now. Just picked up 3 figures from the Return of the Jedi line and I’m enjoying them a lot. Thanks for all the awesome content and have a good one. 😀🤟
Just a nitpick, they should have recreated the much rarer version of the Sand People / Tusken Raider... the one with the hollow cheek tubes.
PS, as far as losing your gaffi stick right off the bat.. as a kid in the 70s & early 80s my house had shag carpeting... Once a gun or weapon was dropped onto / into that it was gone forever!
Nice pick up Nick! Can’t wait to get my set open and displayed. And I’m working on the original vintage first 12 as well 😉😅
My daughter bought me the 1st multi pack retro new hope set last year for my birthday, I asked her if could get me this 2nd set this year… Ben was my first Star Wars figure ever..l
Love the background music!! I can’t wait to get these!! 😮😊
That 3po has the removable limbs
It sure does... shame I didn't demonstrate! 🙄
Cool video dude, love ow you have them interspersed with the other generations of figures, looks ace! 😎👌
Thank you Tim! 🙏
These are fantastic. Thank you. I just wish they didn't ruin the cards with that huge retro sticker.
Oh totally Raylan... and that stupid white stuff on the frame! 🙄😏🙂
All my life I've always wondered by kenner never did a rebel fleet trooper. (Back in the 70s)
Seems to me that STAR WARS wasn't finished when they started the line.
Kenner were working with production stills and sketches directly from Lucasfilm. Consider the Cantina figures. Remember Walrus-man? Lol. Beloved figures but they screwed the pooch.
I kinda believe that the Rebel trooper in the mind or Lucasfilm thought they're screen time and the immediately defeat from the Empire. They wouldn't sell well. Or they were already in production of the Episode V and scrapped the idea.
Maybe the same reason they never made Grand Moff Tarkin?
Cheers!
The packaging on the retro line was designed with the worn look on purpose.
This second F12 set is absolute fire🔥🔥The Tusken Raider is still a personal favourite of mine - for the time it had a great facial sculpt and features👌
Yes some of the plastic is a little soft compared to originals but it’s far better than the ROTJ wave where it’s so obvious Hasbro cheaped out!
As a lover of original vintage and your channel it’s really heartening to see how much you’re enjoying these figures amongst your shelves 😍👍
Squad captain looks like Loyd Christmas. I like it alot. Why doesn’t Vader acknowledge R2 and C3PO? He made them, albeit when he was Anikin.
😆👌🏼🤣
The vac-metal 3PO/R2 are the clear and obvious nostalgic winners, but that Tusken Raider is awesome and my favorite from this set.
Cheers Marky! 🙂👌🏼
Awesome review! Are the tips of the light saber sturdy? Or would it break off easily like the custom ones do? Great Obiwan impersonation! Thanks!!!
They are I reckon.... albeit as an adult (as opposed my younger self) know to go easy and look after this one! 😉👌🏼
The bubles should be scaled down like the 2019 wave. The Ben Kenobi lightsaber was never semi-translucent. It was solid blue plastic and very similar to the retro one, I think. I was a kid of the '70s and have the entire run of SW Kenner figures (except a repro blue Snaggletooth).
Hard to explain what I mean... but look of that thar solid blue plastic had a semi translucent quality, is what meant. Probably as its reflective... but it was bright, almost as if light were shining through at specific parts.
Love the retro collection! 👍🏼
Aren't you worried about sunlight damaging your collection? That's a pretty impressive set up!
You new to the channel? Haha.
There'll be no light damage in there man.. trust me! 😉👌🏼
@@OnlyOneKenobi just be careful, over time there could be. Not sure if you know but 3P0 is removable limbs, it's awesome!
Just know man (and earlier, I wasn't sure if you knew) but I've both UV screen on the windows in this room, AND blinds. Also know that I ONLY lower the blinds when I'm in there... which is for very shirt periods of time! So don't you worry! 😉👌🏼💙
I am so glad they did the next 6 figures from the original 12. R2 and C3PO look fantastic. A shame about the cards though....other than that they do look good on display.
And the Jawa.... vinyl cape please Hasbro! 😏👌🏼
@@OnlyOneKenobi Stan Solo
I had one too G, custom made 😉👌🏼 might even be somewhere in my very early videos! Haha
Great video.....
Your collection impressive most impressive
Why thank you! 😉 O.O.K 👌🏼💙
Its what we had in the day growing up.....and technology wasnt as good as the 80s but we loved them...i wish they done a vinyl jawa i agree but also the first box i wish it was a small head han
Agreed man on vinyl Jawa... what a missed opportunity! 😢 😔👌🏼
Its great to see these figures and great they did C-3PO looking shiny :-)
The Jawa to me looks better without the soft goods as it is all sculpted on the figure, I have a 1977 Jawa without sodt goods just the figure and it looks great !
Great video :-)
Totally agree about Jawa! 😉👌🏼💙
You are 100% right - THE RETRO COLLECTION SHOULD BE JUST FOR THE RE-MAKES OF THE ORIGINAL FIGURES - they are slapping retro collection stickers on any old S--T now just to sell some extra figures.
That Jawa has one short leg 🦵…
😯🙃
I just received mine yesterday..unopened
I will try to track down this set. Those two droids are the highlights of the set. By the way, where did u get the death star control room diorama and the tractor beam terminal? Looks fantastic!
Got that from my mate Mike who made it! May be some links to it if you search my channel.... try searching for Only One Kenobi Death Star Control Room 😉👌🏼💙
@@OnlyOneKenobi Many thanks 🙏 brother... You mean try searching " Only one... Only one."
Only one
P.S. The First 12 all had 1977 Date Stamp as that’s when the molds were made but Kenner couldn’t get them out in time until 1978 with Early Bird Certificate quartet first, and the other 8 soon followed.
The next 12 all had 1978 date stamp on them (X-Wing Luke, Greedo etc)😊
🤣🤣🤣 BOE said the very same in a voice note last night!!! Hahaha
new Disney Wars sux! FAX
And this is as original Star Wars as it gets! 👌
Wow you should be called Obi Moan Kenobi… I had all these as a 5yr old in 78’… I bought a couple of sets & apart from the backs of the card these are pretty damn good, just stop trying to compare them with the originals & enjoy them for what they are…
Thank you so much for commenting!!!!
It has a lot of veining
Indeed 😏👌🏼
Any idea when these will hit the shops in the uk ?
No idea sorry... 😔👌🏼
do you realise next year phantom menace 25th anniversary
Indeed it is! 😉👌🏼💙 I was always disappointed with what came out in 2019.... I.e not very much, if anything! 😏👌🏼
Where did you get the Death Star Contol Room ? I want one .
Search out my channel man... type Only One Kenobi death star control room and you should find 😉👌🏼💙
@@OnlyOneKenobi Thank You 👍👍
Does the c3po have removable limbs?
Sup man... apparently so, so although, I forgot to test it out! 🙃👌🏼
The tie fighter pilot smelt the best.👍💯💥
My one still has a bit of that smell.
My my two vintage AT-AT drivers smell epic, coz they're enclosed in the cockpit of my Imperial Walker! 🥰👌🏼💙 I simply love lifting the lid! 🙏🥰😆
A collector like you can't open the figures without damaging the card? Jesus Christ. 😢
Your point? 🤷🏻♂️
I think it’s fine that they aren’t exact replicas, they are good enough I bought them all on sale it was totally worth it if you like vintage ‘80’s simplicity. I have most of the vintage ones too, and there are definitely differences which protect the vintage market.
