If Hasbro is making a retro line for Mandalorian, they might as well make retro figure lines for the Prequel Trilogy. It could be interesting for those who prefer the classic Kenner aesthetic to have characters such as Anakin and Young Obi Wan.

I wonder if they will have a 2nd Wave of Mandalorian figures. I think I'm not the only one who would want to see vintage style Mandalorian soldiers, Imperial Death Troopers AND the Dark Troopers to army build.
They could realistically make a mandalorian Luke figure as well, since they could almost use the body of the endor Luke, then give him his Rotj jedi head and a black cloth cape. It would be perfect imo
@@batangbatugan that's what they should do instead of releasing figures with board games. Release them with vintage vehicles. Tarkin with a tie fighter. Hoth Luke with the snowspeeder. Remnant stormtroopers with the troop transport. Mandalorian Luke with the x-wing.

Great little suckers. You must watch those two seasons. Simple story telling and near perfection. I consider it canon, as canon as Rogue One, unlike the Disney Trash Trilogy, those are just nothing. The Mandalorian is truly worth watching, something i was waiting for since the OT.

Great Video. Michael, Im shocked you have not watched season 1 and 2 of the Mandelorian. Your going to really enjoy it! They have simply nailed it. Enjoy!
I have plenty of yellowed vintage stormtroopers to use as “Remnant Stormtroopers”, thank you very much Hasbro. Good point about the mercenary tactic of selling a troop builder. Yes, no one needs another Monopoly game. I still have the Star Wars one from the late ‘90s that I still never play.
Great review! Its a breath of fresh air to see a review like this. I like the Mandalorian but also understand its valid criticisms. Still I thing Hasbro just jumped on the hype train instead of continuing the retro line with Empire and Jedi.
I think they work really well with the Kenner line. Mando on an original Dewback looks great. As I don't collect anything "modern" these retro figure give me something to buy. I hope they make loads more and expand on the original trilogy. As someone who can't stand anything Star Wars post '85 the Mandalorian show is uncharacteristically good.
I have a minor gripe about the Cara Dune figure. She’s short like the Leia figure, but the Gina Carano is 5 ft. 8 inches while Carrie Fisher was 5 ft. 1 inch.
I really like the retro IG-11 and Kuill. They fit very well with the vintage 3.75 Mando figures that we have, and the kids were happy that they spotted them before I did at the local Wally World. Thanks for the fair review. (as always)
I really wish Hasbro makes POTF2 styled figures of The Mandalorian, with the lightsaber box art and the figures with beefy muscles and bodies based on the first waves of the line. Cara Dune would look very accurate with the wave 1 Leia body style.
Definitely should have had cloth goods, but overall I enjoyed the line. I'd love to see a second wave with more characters in the future. Nice assessment of the figures here. 👍
I bought the whole first wave and most of the second, well what I could find, but went ahead and preordered this one because of the problems I had getting the others. I know they've made another wave in between but the only recent on I picked up was the Kenobi Vader. With it's cloth cape and empire style saber I can fit it perfectly in my Vader Tie without worrying about my original Kenner cape getting more damage or ruining my retro Vader's cape.
Actually Mike, about Greef’s cape. The Vinyl one is more suitable because in the show, Greef wears a sleeveless long jacket, and not a cape like Moff Gideon does.
I’m 22, and as a kid I played with my step dads old Kenner figures. I liked them more than new figures because they were simpler and felt more sturdy. I love this retro line now I buy a couple and I’ve opened them
A fair and accurate assessment! Well done, as always, Michael. I particularly enjoyed seeing you integrate the retro figures in to your existing Kenner play sets and displays. Refreshing and clever video 🤓👍👍
As crazy as this sounds, I would love a Phantom Menace set of retro style figures. I’d want to see Qui Gon, Obi Wan, Darth Maul, Jar Jar, and Queen Amidalla for sure
I really like the fact that you don’t know much about the characters. This is what I miss nowadays, the action figures always came before the release of a new movie and there was that period of time where your imagination would run wild. Now a show/movie comes out and you might get 5 of the figures released from that show 6 months to a year later.
Right like before Jedi I sent in the proofs of purchase and got the Admiral Ackbar figure, I didnt know who he was so he hung out with Vader for a few months. I assumed his accessory was a wand so he was some kind of magician lol
... except when there's a pandemic and the movies get massively delayed and the toys don't. The not-knowing-anything aspect did no favors for the Shang-Chi wave of Marvel Legends figures (well, other than letting me buy most of them on clearance...)
What i'm waiting on, and hoping for - are prequel 'retro' figures I would absolutely collect an army of troopers, and of course Jango - for a shelf display
I would love to see hasbro do more in this vintage looking style. figures that weren't made before or a re-release of the last 17 so fans could pick them up at a reasonable price.
I must second that, Michael. Ok, it’s Disney, but you’ll be pleasantly surprised what can be done on the show that Kathleen Kennedy has been blocked from having any say.
For Hasbro’s first REAL attempt at making a series of custom Kenner style figures, I say they did a 3rd base hit to near home run job. Although if they REALLY wanted to channel Kenner almost perfectly, wouldn’t have made more sense to give most of the characters completely random weapons as a pose to giving them all unique weapons? Like; Mando gets a Jabba’s Palace blaster and his unique rifle w/ a cloth cape to holster his rifle Kara gets a Hoth Luke sling rifle and a Rebel blaster Moff Gidian gets his saber and a Tie Fighter pilot blaster Quel gets an Imperial blaster Greff gets an Endor Leia blaster IG-11 keeps his loadout.
I was happy to see them. No one was asking, YET all us toymakers/cutomizers were and have been making them ourselves. Hasbro took note and wanted in on our market
I'll admit, I picked up IG-11 to go with my collection as it fits in with both the vintage and modern lines. It's cool to have him next to IG-88, plus I'm a sucker for droids, but the rest I left for someone who'd want them more. Now, if they do a Jawa like the vintage collection did, that'd be cool.
Don't let the Disney+ label discourage you from seeing The Mandalorian. It's probably the best SW project to ever be released since the franchise was acquired by Disney. Maybe because it is placed chronologically so close on the heels of ROTJ that it absorbs much of the original trilogy awesomeness - plenty of familiar faces and places, including those never seen in any film, only in toy form (i.e. the Troop Transport). It actually manages to redeem the franchise and capture a little of that original SW magic & wonder we all loved as kids.
Regarding your comment about R5-D4 and Death Star Droid at 5:30. YES!! That's EXACTLY how I played with my figures of those characters! They were the "evil versions" of Artoo and Threepio!! :D Your comment about Cara Dune at 6:50 is indicative of how little of the show you've seen however. She was a Rebel shocktooper, and an Alderaanian survivor. (No one hates the Empire more!) I understand your desire not to "feed the monster" with a Disney+ subscription, but if you do have a friend whom you can see the show with, I do recommend checking the rest of it out. It's actually quite good.

I wasn't really impressed with these figures initially but seeing them integrated into the playsets has changed my mind with them. It's a shame we don't get more playsets. I think playsets can really make an okay toy something special.

My wife's cousin got recently a Spanish edition of that Monopoly game, but it didn't came with a vintage Stormtrooper, and the box neither had the RETRO sticker applied, so I can assume the Stormtrooper was only available in the USA edition. Anyway, we played the game and really enjoyed it with its newly added rules of unique character abilities, boss battles, and saving Grogu as a team.
in the usa they were released without the retro sticker and no figure as well, i think it was just a limited print that was mixed in with the regular release of the game.
I haven't yet picked these up as I think I had a mini tantrum because I wanted Jedi next. But I actually do like them, and they are pretty easy to acquire in the UK, pretty sure I'll end up grabbing the full wave 👍
Yeah they were in my local Tesco (UK) and I was so shocked I had to buy them. The trooper is a horrible price on the secondary market. I’m happy to hear people taking a stance on that one
For those of us who grew up with the nostalgia of collecting the original Kenner figures in the early '80s, these new vintage-style renditions of unfamiliar characters seem like they've wandered into a time they don't belong. They weren't part of the magical landscape of my childhood, so there's no enchantment pulling me towards adding them to my collection. The charm of that era remains unmatched for me.
I absolutely love them, especially since I have collected Kenner figures since 1978 (I was 10 yrs old - quite a bit older than you, I think). The advantage that I see some may consider a disadvantage compared to the modern vintage line. Sometimes I think Hasbro over does it with articulations, causing the figures to fall over easily or not hold there weapons well. I do agree with you on the vinyl cape issue; however, it is a minor thing for me
Hey Michael I’m a big fan of the show and I saw someone else in the comments mention this but I would love to see a classic film review series or channel I’m sure your busy with this channel but if you ever have the time and want to start something new I think it would be really cool to see you talk about classic films especially horror movies anyways keep up the good work!
In the UK, in particular Nottingham they are just PILED up: all of them. The actual retro collection SW out in microseconds, but these are just stacked like firewood. Interesting
I know in Asda they had a bunch of them in priced at £9.99 a bunch of cases of those sold out reasonable fast. then a month or two later there has been another load come in now priced at £10.99, same figures, they are sticking around a bit longer.
@@retroblasting I'm also not paying anymore after Gina's censorship. Watch at Tim's house or _use one the many abilities some consider to be unnatural._
Really wish Hasbro consider doing rogue one figures, as they would be closer to design with the vinyl capes than these figures are due to the time the characters appear chronologically. I also wish they vacuum metallized Mando's helmet, as it just feels more appropriate and something Kenner would've probably done (although the luster of the paint they went with is a more accurate match to how it looks on screen). Grogu could've used a cloth outfit like Yoda. But the one thing I have to respectfully disagree with is your comment at 7:14, as the vinyl cape's design is ironically the only time that accessory accurately reflects a character's costume. Greef's robe/tunic is almost identical to that of the vinyl cape's design, so much so that it makes me suspect that the costume designers on the show possibly did it as a homage to Kenner. Great video as always!👍
Great review. As others have pointed out, these are oddly enough readily available in the UK, with three major supermarkets carrying them, so I was easily able to pick up a set. I wholeheartedly agree they are decent enough figures and a great way of bulking out vintage-style dioramas.
Michael? While I respect your reasons for not wanting to watch Disney+, you owe it to yourself to watch the Mandalorian. You'll be glad you did. It's THE best Star Wars since A New Hope. Seriously. Also, if you want to stick it to the evil corporate empire, there are ways to watch it without Disney+, or so I've been told! 😄
I had the same thought regarding figure design not being more POTF; I suspect it was a cost decision to go with the vinyl capes. Thanks for the video Michael!
Wow, seems like you have had a change of heart on these!👍 I always liked these but agree with all your points on them. I do not own the Storm Trooper for those very reasons. Outstanding review!👍

I have to get that one for sure! Although her time on the show was short due to behind the scenes issues, she's very special to me!
I only picked Mando and I-88. Good looking figures, if i ever see the rest on discount I'll pick them up, great video Michael. Wish they would've done a regular release of the razor crest instead of the haslab version.
The Remnant Trooper looks like a regular trooper bought from a yard sale. It would be nice if they made a vehicle, either the Razor Crest or the Marauder variant of the Imperial Troop Transport that showed up in Season 2.

I'm editing a classic film review video right now in fact. Stay tuned.
These figures are worthy to add to the vintage Kenner range - This is the way
Can't give these away in northern England. I saw a clearance bin piled high with them for a few quid the other week.
@@timothyward8695 You in the UK too?
I've totally integrated these into my vintage Kenner dioramas. They're all great, and I hope Hasbro makes more waves!
Funny, I don't remember IG-11 being brown in the show?..was he really brown?
Good review as always Mike, like you i've never seen the series, people keep telling me to give it a go but I have no interest.
Still didn't watched the series?! That's commitment...
I will not give Disney+ my money. Period.
@@retroblasting I'm also not paying anymore after Gina's censorship. Watch at Tim's house or _use one the many abilities some consider to be unnatural._
I just buy Cara Dune and Mando and really impressed with the figures ! Great review Michael!
Was that Ackmena behind the bar in the Canteena playset?
Yep
Interesting opinion on this topic….Thanks for sharing…👍
good call with the Rocket and Groot comparison!
Great video and I would say a mighty fair assessment. Thanks for the upload!
A reissue of the Palitoy Death Star playset with Han Solo in Stormtrooper disguise included would be great
Really great review of this set of Retro figures 👍
I would love to see a retro Offworld Jawa with a vinyl and cloth cape.
I had the same thought regarding figure design not being more POTF; I suspect it was a cost decision to go with the vinyl capes. Thanks for the video Michael!
I feel the same way about the stormtrooper in Monopoly as the Orange Spaceman in Lego minifigure guide book
I only got Cara. But I’m thinking maybe I should get the others. Great video and very fair assessment of the figures.
Wow, seems like you have had a change of heart on these!👍 I always liked these but agree with all your points on them. I do not own the Storm Trooper for those very reasons. Outstanding review!👍
I've seen these at my local GameStop, but had no interest in them UNTIL this video. Damnit, Michael.
Mandalorian is an amazing show! I do have to admit it's not perfect or a Masterpiece but Iike it a lot! You should totally watch more! Great review! I'm also glad there's a Karen figure! I have to get that one for sure! Although her time on the show was short due to behind the scenes issues, she's very special to me!
Please do more MOTU Origins reviews and comparisons.
I have this line. I have 2 one went to the kids. One for collecting
I like them. Just wish they were as durable as their 70’s/80’s counterparts. I MIGHT want to get these for my grand daughters.
I only picked Mando and I-88. Good looking figures, if i ever see the rest on discount I'll pick them up, great video Michael. Wish they would've done a regular release of the razor crest instead of the haslab version.
7:10 Especially when he’s the only figure with a fully working holster that is impeded by the vinyl cape, real shame.
The Remnant Trooper looks like a regular trooper bought from a yard sale.
It would be nice if they made a vehicle, either the Razor Crest or the Marauder variant of the Imperial Troop Transport that showed up in Season 2.
A review video that gives an honest opinion, delivered in a professional manner, about a Star Wars Mandalorian Retro Collection toyline, that really puzzles the majority of consumers.
I don't collect Star Wars figures, but I understand the appeal and appreciate how good these figures are, but in my opinion, Hasbro should have released the " Return Of The Jedi " retro range, instead.
