I listened to jay and power 106 when I was in the 8th grade.... You will be missed Jay... Thank you for all of those mornings waking up to your radio show broadcast could not have made it to school without hearing you in the morning....😇😇😇
First time I've seen Monica Brooks ever too. Enjoyed this show on my way to college in the mornings in northern San Diego county. Power 106 was the stuff then!
Jay Thomas Was The Original Leader Of The Power 106 Power Jocks Throughout The '80's & The Early To Mid '90's Along With Brenda, Mucho, The Boomer, Laurie, Buster, Deborah, Jeff, Al, Todd, Tommy, Monica, Hal, Patty, George, Joe, Casey, With PowerMax, And The Voices Of KPWR Chuck Riley & Eric Edwards.
Crazy I remember this morning show. I was about 8-9 or so. Anyone remember John London And The House Party? They did lots of good skits. Little Eddie!!
RIP Jay. One of the best. Listened to him all through college. Great radio battles between him, Rick Dees and Mark and Kim. When radio was radio. I love that this aircheck segues into Samantha Fox, "Naughty Girls Need Love Too". Classic. "We apologize for Jay Thomas this morning".
I was a high schooler back when Jay was at power 106. I was listening to Jay one morning before school and learned that he hardly didn't listen to any of the music that was played on the station. Someone, maybe his partner Monica Brooks, asked him about MC Breed or Paper Boy (who both had a big hits playing on Power 106 at the time) and he didn't know who the hell they were. Guess he turned off his headphones when they played music. It was just a job to him but in his defense, he was good at it.
When I would listen to their show, I was surprised to hear Monica Brooks say one day that she lived in my hometown of Chino and commuted all the way to the station everyday. In those days, you could pretty much predict how much traffic there would be depending on the time. You couldn't do that at all these days.
That's how it was for most jocks, especially in those days. I think of John London and The House Party on 92.3 The Beat. That station was so new that I kept winning a lot of the contests until they told me that they had make it a once a month win only. Anyways, my first time going to the station shocked the hell out of me. They were all old white folks.lol. Not one person of color in sight. Just like some of the MTV jocks...some could give two shi.ts. about the music.
I used to listen to this guy allll the time

Definitely remember that show. That's where I first heard Shirley (later Shirley Strawberry of the Steve Harvey show). Good times!
