I’m many years too early. Koreans had little representation when I was a kid, so you had to root for the extended umbrella. I’m guessing this is common for many Asians growing up in the states.

I’m so happy that Palme D’or and SAG see how much Parasite is well deserving. This recognition is to the truth of what a real film is, no matter what language and country, cinema speaks volume and movies are relatable to any human being of any color. I hope they take Best Picture and Director at the Oscars.

as a korean, other awesome korean movies are highly recommended such as "memories of murder" , "classic", "TaeGukGi: Brotherhood of War" etc.you're going to be surprised, definitely again i bet

I know there’s a lot of focus on the film and actors and truly well deserved! However, this translator deserves A++! So eloquent and articulate! She was able to encapsulate their Korean responses into something truly coherent and intelligent! Meaning - not just the basic boring grade school level English lol
Sharon is the next level of a translator, she is an interpretor. I watch almost all Parasite's interviews just to look at the way Sharon Choi interpreting the answers of director Bong and the actors. Unlike google translate, Sharon can interpret all the subtle nuances that actors and director Bong said with the knowledge of cinematography that she has. She is simply the best, pull stop.
One thing. She has the background in film, she is a director. That's why she's eloquent. That's how people should choose their translator, match their background with the subject topic.
It's incredibly difficult to translate between English and Korean.... Google needs to hire her

Everyone is going gaga over the director and translator while I'm here feeling so proud at seeing all those actors and actresses of Korean dramas I had watched for years. Been a fan of Lee Sun Kyun since 2007 and am actually currently watching one of his dramas called My Mister.
I think the message about societal disparity between rich and poor and the culmination of all that at the end resulting to tragedy makes this one of the best movie of 2019

ROK has the 12th largest GDP in the world. I think its just a progression of a modern society, but it does seem to have an edge over China / Japan with its domestic entertainment business (music, film, TV) having appeal Internationally. This trend started in the 2000s and Korea seems to steadily improved since then.
I think baseball in Latin America is a decent analogy. Once a few players have success, the infrastructure gets built to breed more success.

They're just usually still white (like English, Canadian, Scottish, etc.) That's why I think y'all really mean non-white actors, which is what the conversation always is every year. That these major awards shows love to ignore artists of color and give all of the awards to white people.
It actually refreshing. Americans can be a little too ethnocentric, so its kinda refreshing to have moments like this when they're expose to other places & people outside north america.

Totally deserved. It’s even more of an achievement when you beat out films like Irishman with DeNiro, Pacino, Pesci and OUATIH with Leo, Pitt, Russell, Robbie, etc. Massive accomplishment and much deserved. ✊🏻
I must be the only who thinks OUATIH is the most overrated film of the year. It felt boring and was just an exercise in Hollywood massaging its own ego. Considering the Oscars is just Hollywood patting itself on its back I can see why OUATIH appeals.

I am a fan of Choi Woo Shik since he was started in TV after first film he got recognised in Korea already. I'm interested in him he can speak English well, I hope one day he can work in Hollywood someday. But Parasite is way toi good Asian movie success in all level. So proud he got this point with the great director and actors team. Hope they can win Oscar.

The ladies in this movie are just beyond... the house keeper, the mother, Jessica, the wife in the rich house... even the little child actors. Not a single one was nominated for Oscar, so It's truly impressive that the SAG went to the whole cast. Well done SAG and well done Cast :)

Ugh. It's not about diversity. It's about how good a cast it was. They were brilliant in this film. They deserve it based on their hard work. It is history in South Korea but that's just a bonus. I voted for them based on THEIR ACTING. Nothing else.
Yeah duh. Of course that’s how it should be. Unfortunately there’s still a diversity issue in the industry, so as of now, the topic is still relevant and will come up in interview questions.

That movie was bloody great. I had a blast watching it.
This film is so deep, full of unexpected story twists. It grips you from the beginning, then you jaw drops and never goes up till the end. Amazing script, director work, camera work, acting.

So right to win, this film was absolutely perfect!
It's kindda weird that these American journalists are asking them questions of "American problems" like "diversity" and "inclusion" to Korean people whom may have or have not any problem of "diversity" nor "inclusion". Not every single country in the world have the same problems or situations as the US.
True that - just because we have Amercian problems - it doesn't mean it translates over to all countries. As it stands, I truly do believe this applies to Korean cinema and society as well. You can find evidence of such in their current social affairs and treatment of how they treat non-koreans. I do believe this question applies and I am glad it was one posed to them. It keeps the mind working for sure.
As a Korean, I actually could attest that we do indeed have similar problems propagating here in South Korea, and that the actors are most likely also well aware of such. While the US is precisely its epitome, globalisation has taken toll in pretty much all existing states at this point and us Koreans are now having to face & handle like issues as all the mixed race/ethnicity children, or the Korean diaspora population in China who we have a very complicated (and, unfortunately, often discriminatory) history with. As much as Americentrism is an issue, I think the journalists here are guilt-free in this occasion 😉

im so glad I saw this---gotta say that out all all the movies that have been getting nominees/awards at these things, I honestly enjoyed parasite the most, my mom saw it with me too (which is out of character for her,,she one of those "i dont like to read while I watch" ppl) and shed probably say the same bc she enjoyed it as well lmao
